Understaffed Workplace

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Overall my experience of working for MD Group was OK. The main issue was the under staffing and the pressure that put everyone else under. The Management allowed this to continue for months before attempting to hire additional staff unsuccessfully owing to the slightly lower than average salary for the role. The staff were OK but Management behaved in a draconian way and were at best out of touch with understanding just how stressful the workplace was as a result of under staffing . All of my immediate colleagues were experiencing an unhealthy level of stress and it was affecting their well-being. This was my main reason for leaving.

Pros

Covid Safe

Cons

Under Staffed

great office staff. bad managment

my time as a scheduler was tough but rewarding. directors sit on a table watching every move you make. they get involved and override managers decisions constantly. your told to book appointments then told off for missing calls whilst your calling to book, impossible to get right with numerous different instructionsvery stressful and no perks whilst targets are impossible.sacked with no warnings or unable to explain the situation.bad place to work. only interested in profit.

Pros

free tea and coffee

Cons

low pay, very stressful

Terrible management and a lot of leavers

This company draws you in as a great place to work, they don’t care for staff and the directors really don’t care about anything than making money. They’re self sabotaging and won’t be around (or owned) by the same directors next year. Suppliers are paid late all the time, and there’s only enough cash to pay the wages each month. No benefits, no loyalty and a pretty toxic atmosphere. HR are out dated and need a new leader, but no one with any sense would work here. Company is doomed

Pros

Office environment

Cons

Long hours, no work life balance, rubbish pay, no job security, arrogant director

Grass roots business

A real grass roots business with a passion to deliver high standards of services for client's and customers. Communication, team work and dedication is embedded. Commercial focus and fast paced / a great place without politics and a humour to help the day go by. Best place I've ever worked

Pros

Great people

Cons

Parking

Great opportunities

I have worked with md group for around 3 years my wife also works for md group on the construction team, she introduced me to the business. I started as a plumber for md although the work can be difficult at times I enjoyed my time working as a plumber for md the social housing sector isn't for everyone. An opportunity came up for me to move up in the business and I am now a supervisor and I look after a good team of engineers.

Pros

Progression in the business

Cons

Social housing isnt for everyone

Progressive Business

Like all, MD had it's flaws. Since I have been here there has been major changes and progression into a better more uniformed business.Hard work is rewarded and laziness is dealt with.

Pros

great salary

Cons

Long days

Unless you are in the circle you won’t last

This company is lovely to work for if you want to get pushed out at the peak. Management say one thing but do another behind your back. I would not recommend working here if you want to keep your sanity, dignity and compassion. I trusted them and put everything into my work and it meant nothing.

Pros

Can get good bonuses and salary isn’t awful

Cons

The work you will do is worth more than a bonus, staff not in the management bubble are treated unfairly and you are never safe in your job, you will always be told you are replaceable.

Worst RM company u can work for in Devon

Dont be fooled by the job description, this is by far the worst company I have ever worked for. Clicky in the office is an understatement, mangers DONT know how to manage, the planner girls are extremely b****y and a very bad atmosphere due to sacking people like the plague! They had about 10 new managing directors in a year which are never successful so the firm is run by a bunch of monkeys. Far to many egotistical contract mangers who think there running the show yet clients are complaining all the time how there requirements aren’t being met. Very quick to pass the buck to planning for poor results. No respect in the workforce, the turn over in staff is ridiculous and treat the guys on the tools like there slaves. Be warned, your face doesn’t fit you’ll get the boot anyway. All I say is save your dignity and don’t make the mistake of joining this horrid company.

Pros

There are none, no incentives or rewards

Cons

Always work through lunch, never finish on time

Avoid at all costs , worst company I’ve ever worked for

Great team of operatives , but that’s it ... a culture of bullying and stitch ups is regularly implemented, your expected to go the extra mile for no reward , 7 managers in a year should say it all , I didn’t believe all the negative reviews but i do now , you’ve been warned ... I wouldn’t even give this company half a star and only gave them one as the app wouldn’t let me continue

Pros

None

Cons

To many to mention

Diabolical work place

Was told by management I was the best most reliable operative from the Exeter office. also had this all in writing stating I’m the go to operative. I worked hear for nearly 2 years and in this time seen people thrown out the door without valid reasons.Had numerous emails from management thanking me for my excellent work as the tenants had rang and said how delighted they were with my work. Was promised a pay rise three times but got told not to pester for it. Never happened.Unsafe working. Ie working on unsafe scaffolding and when Notifying management got told to just ******* do it approximately 8 times. It’s either md’s way or no way if you try to get your point across you get sacked on the spot no valid reason just like me. Due to the current situation we are now all in with the current pandemic it’s hard to get a job so looks like myself my wife and children will end up with no where to live as we have no income and this is down to management. Lucky for me I recorded how I was sacked. But words of warning do not join these bunch of cowboys just read all the other reviews.

Pros

Feather

Cons

95% of management

Avoid MD group

I was on with the company at the start of the year, wasn’t overly impressed but needed the work at the time. Management was poor, was told to just get on with things and bodge the job.. even remember being told to paint a wall that had been plastered the day before.. anyway.. fast forward to March.. covid hit, put on furlough, appreciated they kept me on that.. was then told in July my job would end and I was being made redundant.. I was told they didn’t thing planned maintenance would start until after the new year, I have since seen someone I worked with there and was told he is back doing bathrooms already. at the end of august.. role was advertised for less money.. I have weekend legal advice and will be following through with a claim. Awful management, awful culture,It from the stone ages. Will also charge you for any damage to a can and take it straight fromYour salary.

Pros

Not much

Cons

The whole company

Thank you for taking the time to review our company. I am sorry to hear that you feel this way, this is not how we would ever wish for any of our employees to feel. We haven't received any complaints relating to your review above, so I am unable to identify your particular situation. COVID-19 has had a big impact on ours and other businesses, I am glad to hear we could utilise the Government Furlough scheme in your case. We always look to redundancy as an absolute last resort, and this is sometimes unavoidable, especially with the recent climate.Once again, we are sorry that you feel like this and would be keen to hear more about your comments. If you would like to discuss your comments in more detail, please get in contact with the HR team either by e-mail or phone.HR@mdgroup.co.uk or 0117 966 4466Kind Regards,OliHuman Resources

Blame culture. Revolving door staffing

Read these reviews and thought "just didn't get what they wanted" - disgruntled employees. The reviewers are not kidding. I started when the previous employee walked after a week.. as did one I know if before him. I walked after 4.5 days. The ones who last are part of the bullying & blame culture. Impossible targets. No understanding of a trade role. Must cost a fortune to be recruiting constantly but there is always an MD Group ad' running. None of this management would get anything built on a site because the teams would walk on the first week.

Pros

Uniform

Cons

bullying & blame culture.

Very poor experience with bully attitude

Company that are in financial difficulty that expect workers to support ! Do not respect TUPE law !! Will stop wages at any opportunity and not pay overtime ! Very poor management and do not follow H&S or toolbox talk expectations. Directors and CEO are too interested in their investment and need YOU to make profit when they are clueless Vans are leased and will charge you for any damage and deduct from wages to save money No respect to clients when they have negotiated contracts that they will lose money, so expect the lower staff to bull and then its our fault they loose money ! HR is a directors relative

Pros

company van

some very good staff at this organisation are sacked to satisfy the contracts managers ego

This company is frightened of its own shadow and reacts to the slightest thing from tenants and housing providers be prepared to be sacked at any stage even after 14.3 weeks after your 3 month probation expect to be sacked for any reason that satisfies the contracts managers power trip

Avoid at all costs

When I applied for a job at MD group the reviews were shocking, but I though maybe it's just ex employees who were sour. So I gave it a benefit of a doubt. Things are terrible, management are non existent and impossible to hold of when you need them. Girls in the office treat you like rubbish, dump jobs on you with out informing you when you've already got a full days worth of work.and also have a god complex thinking they are your boss etc Avoid MD at all costs, they will advertise a higher salary to just knock it down massively in interview. They will give you false promises with regards to training and up skilling to get people through the door. The slaves who worked on the pyramids were treated better.

I ignored the reviews

I put the negative reviews down to disgruntled ex employees. Just have a read. You can't be that desperate for work. Blame culture, unfair pressure to perform unreasonable tasks. No job security. Cowboys running the show. No respect for quality. Happy to send unqualified and inexperienced lads to do jobs and attack if they get it wrong
