best company I ever worked with ,nice and steady work . no issues with the wage payments whatsoever... the management is easy going and understandable, as long as you are doing your job in a professional manner

Toxic

Transport management haven’t got a clue about drivers hours and defects constantly sending trucks with defects out ,not interested in any driver problems ,always looking for someone else to blame for their own mistakes , Absolute back stabbers from top to bottom

Pros

Salary

Cons

Where do I begin

Underpaid on £10.90ph.

Since Menzies have taken over the whole job has gotten much worse at Carrington. Drivers are paid 30 percent less than agency drivers. Staff morale is at an all time low. The work plans are designed to look after the agency drivers with Menzies own drivers being given all the messy work left over. To achieve over 38k you would have to work 6 days a week and do lots of nights out. Over 65 hours a week is standard here at Carrington. Overtime pay is paid a month in hand. Standard pay rate is only around £10.90 per hour after this year's 1% pay increase. Early 4am starts are common place and 15 hour days are regular. Treated like second class citizens by our customer.

Pros

Non.

Cons

Long hours. No work life balance. Poor pay.

Its night work packing papers

It is sometimes stressful. If papers are late or a double run work every weekend and bank holidays its night work with a day off during the week it can be tireing and long hours

Pros

Free paper every day you work

Cons

Sometimes long hours and work every weekend and bankholidays

Hard work, poorly paid and not the best environment.

Whilst the job is classed as unskilled manual labour, it is fast paced and physically demanding and minimum wage sometimes doesn't feel like a fair reward. The working environment is dirty and dusty and there is very little investment in machinery and equipment. Management and supervision is not of the highest standard. On the plus side, a 4 day working week always leaves the weekends free for some personal time. There are trade offs in most jobs these days.

Pros

4 day week (weekends off)

Cons

Long hours, dirty environment, physically demanding and minimum wage.

Night shift hours at day shift pay.

Night shift work with poor unsociable hours, expected to work overtime constantly for basic rate. Pay is 9.21 an hour and 10.50 on sundays. Haven't had a pay rise since april 2019 which was blamed on covid but company is doing more work in other areas. Also if you damage a company vehicle you're expected to pay for it or lose your job.

Pros

None

Cons

Unsociable hours, poor salary and terrible management

Absolutely terrible company

The worst company you could ever work for.The poorest paid delivery company in the country at less than the living wage, overtime rate is time and a tenth so after tax your working overtime for flat rate! They expect/demand you to work overtime, even though overtime is NOT compulsory! Hours is 9.5 per day with 30 mins unpaid lunch break. They scrutinise every minute by your van tracker and your scanner delivery times.

Pros

None

Cons

Wages, overtime rate, hours, bosses

A multi drop success story

I worked as a self employed contractor for Menzies for 4 years delivering parcels on behalf of their client who is an online retailer. I was paid a good set daily rate. As I was self employed I was in control of my costs. I hired a van from a company that didn't charge any excesses for high mileage or charge an arm and a leg for deposit. This meant I was free to deliver all over for the company and in turn boosted my profits for my business. As Menzies don't provide a van for doing the deliveries you are free to buy one and cut your costs which boosts your profits even more and in turn bumps up your hourly rate. Anyone earning less than £11 per hour has clearly gone to the wrong hire company and signed an agreement that cost them too much. That is not Menzies fault as it is up to the self employed contractor to source a van. I was so successful at this job that I was able to get a mortgage for a house and then progress my career into management. This particular branch of Menzies has some long service contractors because the pay is good, the work is good and the management ensures fairness for all. It is not a job for someone who doesn't want to work hard or work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. There are also increases in the Daily Rate at Peak times which really boosts earnings and also a bonus scheme which I made over £3000 extra on when I was a driver. I do miss being out on road but being a supervisor now is great for me as I can pass my knowledge onto the new drivers and give them a great experience of the job.

Pros

Great Pay and the ability to handle all your own costs.

Cons

Fast paced, hard work so not for everyone.

Ok job during lockdown and keep you fit.

It is a ok to work during lockdown, but I wouldn’t recommend for long term. The job itself is easy, just like any multi drop role but now it is getting stressful because the management adding more drop to the route and you never finish on time. The pay could be better, especially you working unsociable hour, but If you looking for something to do during lockdown or you out of work and want to keep fit and don’t mind unsociable hour work than I would recommend it.

Pros

Keep fit

Cons

Never finish on time, pay is bad for working this hour.

Cons

No breaks

Run

An absolute joke of a company more interested in paperwork management than man to man management Don't dare try to give them your advice for unless it comes from management or a uni grad it doesn't count Doesn't matter the experience you have you are not even a number Poor pay horrible hours with no benefits whatsoever Want to work in a place where management nearly outnumber the workers and sit and just watch by all means apply Otherwise steer clear A modern day sweat house

Pros

None

Cons

Everything poor management

Not a company I recommend

Got hired straight away as it is warehouse based. No respect throughout the whole workplace. Depot was based in Wakefield, if I ever had an issue, supervisors would dismiss it and managers treated everyone poorly. Probably the only thing good about it was had opportunities to do VNA training keeping yourself away from the supervisor's attitude towards all staff. Highly recommend all supervisors and Managers to be reviewed as overall not a bad job, just the people who work there. Had one supervisor (a bully as it will) used to verbally abuse colleagues and get away with it even after complaints to managers. As I was literate with computers and writing, I was put on administration for one of the machines to be then be told my job is not important (this was one of the main roles when stock came into the warehouse, VERY IMPORTANT). Overall, Menzies was an average company to work for, not many work benefits over the two years I worked there, they gradually took work benefits away 'to save money'. As a job itself, it was easy but very labour based for minimum wage. The work culture between workers was very good as we treated each other as family, mainly managers and supervisors made work life a misery. I have been to various other depots at Menzies and I can honestly say Wakefield needs a review in their work culture and the way staff are treated as other depots are great in comparison.

Pros

Easy Job, Simple, VNA training

Cons

Direspectful people, Not challenging, Only way to excel is if somone leaves, Minimum wage

It’s genuinely unbelievable

I would tell everyone who ever thinks of applying here to reconsider. The place will be closed in a matter of months. Due to an almost terrifying lack of concern and action with regard to -health and safety issues. -Wages -unpaid overtime -forced overtime Avoid at all costs

Unreliable.

My work colleagues in depot were all brilliant to work with, but upper management were unreasonable, and unfair, seldom did they look out for any of their staff. Although understood i would be doing some overtime, 1st week I started until leaving, had to do between 15 and 20 hrs a wk on top of contracted hours, for minimum wage, overtime payments often wrong or late.
