How would you describe the pace of work at MITIE?

  • If you are not careful you can end up having to do work at home but if like me you are strategic then that can be avoided. The culture at Mitie enables me to delegate a lot which is great, even to people that in other places I could not consider using because of rules about corporate governance etc. But Mitie enables me in so many ways, it really is refreshing! In other places being enabled to get what I need in others, including my need to keep myself feeling ok and keeping anyone that threatens that down.

  • For me I find it very hard because my approach is very methodical, I like to ensure that I am seen to have done my work by employing a "flowchart" style. So for example if there is a debit that I need to write off I put "excess Payment" and if there is a credit I need to write off I put "excess payroll deductions". This can get stressful however, I use post it notes to remember which is which. Or those sticky notes on the screen, they work too.

  • For the people that care about doing a good job for the good of Mitie and their colleagues the pace is such that you end up spending your own time correcting the mess made by people that only care about themselves. There are people at Mitie who are there to collect pay and pretend to do their jobs. Everything they do is for their own benefit and if that means they do harm to Mitie that doesn't stop them. Mitie lurches along with problems stacking up for a long time.
Fires start and have to be put out with a money hose, unless a manager can find a person who can sort it but they won't be rewarded with anything except more problems to resolve. It's stressful for anyone who cares about doing the work that should be done.

But for the most part you can pasx as working when you're not.

  • Expect too. Much for in not enough hours

  • Chaotic disorganised

  • Slow and rubbish. You wait around and do all the work they expect then they just look for idiot reasons to put on you.

  • Easy going no pressure at all, if I need extra time doing a job it's there no questions asked.

  • Steady and busy enough to keep you occupied all day.
