I work days and there is never enough staff and not enough support from management more bothered about making the place fancy instead of focusing on the residents and staff

Productive workplace

Great place to work. Great staff, great management. Always pushing to excel staff potential. Flexible rota for the right candidates. Reward staff for commitment and productivity.

Not person centred. Now paper/electronic centred. As long as the boxes are ticked alls well?

Conveyer belt care. More interested in the paperwork being done as opposed to the quality of care and resident contentment. Pay is competitive. Expectation that your personal life no longer exists and you give yourself to the company. Low staffing levels. Most staff stressed out. Not many happy/smiling staff. Management more interested in the income generated from residents

Pros

Free lunch (if booked in time)

Cons

Croft care home - Caring and Compassionate

I worked as a Senior Care Assistant for The Croft care home in Burton on Trent for about a year. I have since moved on but the job gave me the vital experience I needed in dealing with stressful situations and prioritising. I adored the residents and still miss them. Pay wasn't great at my time of working there but I understand this has now improved. A nice care home to work, I would say previously experienced carers are better suited due to the fast pace and sadly how understaffed care homes are in the current climate.

Pros

Get to know the residents really well, Experience to progress further

Cons

Sometimes short of staff - not the care homes fault, Sadly don't always have enough time to spend getting residents ready in a morning at their own pace.

Staff were nice and helpful let down by management

I only worked there for 2 weeks and I liked the staff they were helpful when I asked questions and showed me what to do. However when I started to work there I found out that lots of staff had left and that 2 had handed their notices in and some were telling me to run a mile and now I know why. Short staffed every single day and I was a new starter and they put me with an agency staff as other person I was with kept disappearing all the time and was no help at all. Dont feel like I was trained properly due to not having enough staff to train new starters. The home is quite dirty due to being very short staffed on domestic team. I never had run ins with managrment but from what was said and could tell there not aprochiable and dont treat staff with respect that they need and I was completely lied to in my interview e.g told its half 7 finish on a late but actually its quarter to 8. Overall i would not recommend woodlands nursing home needs sorting out

Pros

Staff are lovely and helpful

Cons

To many to list mostly management

Disrespectful

Residents are the most amazing people and some times it’s wonderful but Management on site is shocking and doesn’t have the ability to keep the residents and staff safe Some staff are lovely and kind to work with and to the residents but other staff neglect them

Pros

Great residents

Cons

Long hours disrespected by management

Lovey Residents, kind caring staff

On reflection, I enjoyed my time with Monarch the residents are fantastic they need help and support. The team of care staff and services work and do go above and beyond to support the homes. Health care is a rewarding career if you have the passion and drive for it, the managers and leadership team do support the services and offer support over the phone if needed. Staff are passionate about what they do sometimes without fully understanding the actions they drive and the impact this can have on others within the home and the people that run the home. Training is provided and professional I was impressed by the level of mandatory training given to staff to support in their job role. The homes are clean and tidy and have benefitted from some improvements both inside and out.

Pros

Free lunch, fantastic residential services and residents

Cons

None, very rewarding role

Very stressful and understaffed

Virtually all residents have severe dementia with challenging behaviour. Staff sometimes get injured! Very stressful job due to low staffing levels. Poor pay. Only £8.91 per hour (Minimum wage.) No extra pay for nights, weekends or bank holidays. Breaks are stopped from your already low wages!

Pros

The care staff are generally nice.

Cons

Poor pay, high turnover off staff. Very under staffed on nights.

Avoid

I worked there for 18 months , you were expected on nights to work on your own when not enough staff and it never felt like you were working in a team, a lot of back biting.

Pros

Residents

Cons

Not enough staff

Excellent Workplace/ Management and Team

I initially joined Monarch Healthcare as a bank nurse. However, after several months at the company i was offered the position of deputy mananger. I work both nursing and office based shifts. The career progression opportunities are excellent. I am well supported by management and have been given excellent training to help me excel within my new role. I came to the company with a wide range of knowledge in emergency care but have now adapted and learnt a wide range of knowledge and skills in community care. The workplace culture is positive and reflects on the excellent care all the residents recieve. The residents are the main focus of every decision made by the company and mangement. To ensure their safety and best interests at all times. The learning opportunities are endless.

Pros

Career Progression

Cons

Long Hours

Excellent employer if you wish to progress

I started working for Monarch Healthcare in 2017 as a staff nurse. Over the past 4 years I have been able to progress my career to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and now Manager. There are always plenty of personal development opportunities and the company reward you financially should you wish to do this by offering enhanced rates of pay if you hold NVQ's.The job can be stressful at times but senior management are supportive and help you through difficult times.Pay rates for nurses are excellent and the company is flexible with many different shift patterns to suit. The company places great emphasis on improving the service with regular QA audits taking place for both staff and service users.

Pros

Free lunches, excellent pay rates, supportive team, flexible hours.

Cons

Care work can be demanfing generally at times, especially in the current climate.

A joke

Working for monarch was the most stressful time in my life. Staff are not valued, over worked & under paid. I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. Never felt like just a number till I worked in this place.

Cons

Long hours underpaid for what we do.

Loved working there

Staff amazing help each other out good place to work I only left due to new manager who's not there now look after the residents first class care would recommend

Hard Work

Monarch specialises in caring for those with dementia - severe to say the least. There's a lot of moving and handling involved and it is significantly harder than your average care home work. It was rewarding but beware, many residents have challenging behaviour. Management were polite but stern.

No Respect to workers

Not a nice place to work stressful , bullying culture and cover ups. just a tick box company no supervisions or support apart from the training which can be intense when working 10 days straight and then required to attend training on the day off. Home Managers are puppets on a string Regional Management Not supportive and looks down upon workers
