Very disappointing experience
As a very experienced law enforcement professional I joined the NCA in the hope of furthering my intelligence career. It took 9 months to get in from application to start date, and I had very little communication from HR throughout the process - having to constantly chase them up. Despite over 10 years relevant experience I was offered the minimum salary which I stupidly accepted (having not applied for a job in over 20 years it did not occur to me to negotiate) but I soon found out other new members of staff with far less - often no Intel experience - were on up to 8k more than me! There is a huge salary gulf mostly due to agencies advising applicants that they will get their salaries matched if they push hard enough. Upon starting I had no pass, no computer, no courses arranged (I had to do this myself) and thus, no work for several weeks. It was a shambolic start but a very common one according to other new recruits. Some I spoke to had been sitting around doing nothing for months on end. Several people I spoke to regretted joining and few were happy. Lots of public school types swaggering around in expensive suits who think they know it all and as a previous reviewer observes, plenty of people who like to talk a good job but are rarely found actually just doing it. A seemingly bottomless pit of money to fund pointless conferences and courses held in posh hotels - I soon realised why the country's police forces are so underfunded. HR haven't got a clue about anything - especially disability issues - and I had no faith in their ability to manage themselves let alone an -
