Typcial day includes long-term project planning and more tactical financial analysis. Good team of people but suffer from topheavy management style. An average place to work
Pros
Flexible hours
no words needed this company only wants to you do as they say to many chiefs no Indians all on your back even if your right your wrong they tire you out as you don't fit in the gang bosses are up each other so you don't fit in to there agenda
Pros
no free breezes
Cons
very long hour's
The management of the company is very unstable and reactive. At the slightest fall of the oil price they sack staff. Staff is treated like a numbers game, no one really cares.
Cons
Lack of systematic approach and poor management
There is a very clique culture at Nov. If your particular manager puts you in his, you are pretty much ok. If not, you constantly fighting for your own job at every round of redundancies
Well established company, compressed working hours scheme, great benefits, full training provided outstanding management, overall company is the place to be.
Pros
Every other friday off
Cons
Location
Salary is rubbish and so is advancing through the company. No progress anywhere so you’ll be stuck in a dead end job until you decide to leave. Would not advise working here.
Management never seen, supervisors who barely speak to you and don't know the tools, only in a supervisory position because they came from a company that was bought over. No direction or leadership, can do what you want. Not treated very well, no infrastructure to help you do your job. Never seen a place where everyone is out for themselves more than here. I have always heard terrible things about NOV but didn't believe it until I seen it for myself. Please take my word, do not work for NOV, its reputation for treating staff bad is well merited.
Pros
None.
Cons
Management, attitudes, a ship adrift at sea.
Sounded great, all the standards flaunted but management and customer relations below levels expected.
Engineers treat awful. Seem unable to learn from mistakes and change. Old school thinking. Need new blood to implement changes.
Pros
Work/Life balance.
Cons
Management. Policies.
from my experience the only way to succeed at this company is to have no idea what your doing at your job. management at Dundee once all made car tires at the same place over the road, some very nasty vindictive senior management in that particular office dead set on ruining anybody that dare to question there knowledge or ability.
Really loved working for NOV and was devastated when the redundancies forced their hand.
no two days were ever the same i have the opportunity to travel and worked with some of the smartest people in the industry. our small team was extremely friendly and i enjoyed just being in the office.
Management took a grown up approach to its staff and allowed them to work unhindered. which made the redundancy especially difficult.
Pros
international travle

Great place to serve as an apprentice. modern technology. good experienced workforce. good salary. the benefits within the company are very good. management were good for working around your outside life.
good and interesting job.busy for your full shift which was good.poor organization which meant you had to leave one job and start another.management was friends of friends, some which had no engineering skills and were out of their dept.highly skilled workers badly let down from above
Pros
bonus sometimes, pension
Cons
not tooled up for the jobs
Whilst i enjoyed my actual job i believe that management had a low opinion of time served people and because of this started employing semi skilled which led to an inferior product which in turn in my opinion aided the start of redundancies and even the thread of closure which it is under now.
Although i am from an engineering background I learned quite a lot about high pressure testing in relation to their product.
The culture within the workforce was in general to do their job to the best of their ability. The worst part of the job was being rushed in order to get the product out the door.
The most enjoyable was workmates whom all respected each other.
Pros
medical insurance & decent pension.
Cons
Management attitude to shop floor workers
Good Company to be employed by, many opportunities to move in the right direction with the company.
Chances to work abroad in different locations onshore and offshore.
Management are good and care about its employees.
I have enjoyed my time at NOV and will be sad to leave as the company is downsizing and relocating back to America.
I was in control of the stores and my main responsibility was to ensure all stock was delivered correctly to the relevant builds. my other responsibilities included cycle counting, booking in deliveries, returning faulty/ wrong products. checking of all forklifts to ensure they were safe to drive,
I was also a trained first aider and fire Marshall
work at NOV was sometimes frantic and deadlines had to be met,
Management were approachable and listened to any concerns.
It is unfortunate that the oil industry is going through this slowing down period but if it ever picks up I would have no hesitation in returning back to NOV
Pros
Close to home, friendly and hardworking staff
Cons
oil prices dictated work
excellent teamwork
good management
Structured day at work
Up-to-date training in health & safety, 5S, slinging and lifting
Excellent nine years under the previous management then as industry went down hill new management was brought in and redundancy followed
Pros

Cons

No training, no prospects, inept leadership, frozen salary.
Totally disjointed divisional management.
Dominated by American management, local management roll over at every command.
