Productive and fun workplace
Consultant (Current Employee) - Remote - 23 September 2023
Good management. Supportive. Deals well with mental health. Flexible - shifts, breaks etc. Repetitive work. Metric-focused work - numbers often mean more than quality work.

Would definitely recommend - nationwide look after their employees and they are very conscious of mental health. The pay isn’t great, and you are over targeted, however that’s doable and when you have good management it makes no odds anyway

Not a bad company, some awful management
Investment Administrator (Current Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 13 September 2023
The company itself is good to work for, you are for the most part well looked after and received good benefits from the job. Roles are ever changing so you must be adaptable and resilient. Sadly some managers are bullies especially in the financial services department and nothing is done to prevent this even if raised correctly.

Brilliant company
Senior Consultant (Current Employee) - Dunfermline, Fife - 7 September 2023
I have worked in many a job before working for Nationwide and not one company has come close in how Nationwide treats employees, it truly is a place I am happy to work harder for and do more due to it being noticed and rewarded, you are not spoken down too and management do not come across as ‘boss’ type, they are more about getting the best outcome for the member and a happy place for everyone to work.
Pros
Bonus, rewards, great staff all around
Cons
Not much progression

Good, but stressful
Mortgage Processor (Former Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 7 September 2023
The staff were always brilliant in onboarding new staff and keep morale up .. but the job was very stressful. A few seconds between calls and constant heartache and upset with mortgages falling through takes it toll on you when you hear it all day every day. It was an experience worth having, but not one I'd rush back to.

Good place to work
Member Representative (Former Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 6 September 2023
I am really enjoying working at nationwide so far. The work culture is great and I love the fact that every day is different. It is a fast paced environment which I like.

Great place to learn your trade
Instructional Designer (Former Employee) - Swindon, Wiltshire - 6 September 2023
Was a great place to develop and progress. However, towards the end of my employment with them, I started to notice that ‘work friends’ would be promoted. They also cut 75% of my team with the same demand from the business meant that we were overworked.

Good benefits
Member Representative (Current Employee) - Cheshire - 1 September 2023
Nice company to work for with good benefits. Lots of emphasis on the members rather than sales (there is still and element of this). The systems are much less user friendly compared to banks that I have worked for.

Fantastic Company
Member Representative (Current Employee) - Oxfordshire - 28 August 2023
I am still working for the company and have a largely positive experience. I have worked for few other companies in the past and Nationwide is the best company that I have worked for; from treating their employees fairly and respectfully, they listen to their employees and offer a lot of support as and when needed. I have experienced working for at least three branches as well as working on telephony (customer support) for a while and every role I've worked in within Nationwide has been a positive experience. It can be extremely challenging at times when dealing with customers (as any customer based role can be) however the fact that Nationwide supports its employee workforce is what makes it such a great company to work for. The salary and benefits are very good as well. I have been working for Nationwide for three years to date.
Pros
Great culture, supportive, encouraging, opportunities to grow within company, good salary and benefits.
Cons
Dealing with customers can be challenging but Nationwide listens and protects its staff - no cons!

Pro active workplace
Security Officer (Former Employee) - Swindon - 22 August 2023
Good work-life balance, the pay was ok. Work was great but management was terrible. Seems to be the norm in security if you can secure a good role. Close to home so not far to travel which is a bonus. Pandemic ended the contract early which has set me back 3yrs in good pay to get back to where i was.
Pros
Paid on time and paid lunch
Cons
Management were a pain to contact and control room hard to understand English

Not the best.
Contact Centre Agent (Current Employee) - Remote - 21 August 2023
Training was enjoyable however not job specific, so once complete you are thrown into the deep end. Unrealistic expectations, very hot on adherence, stressful job, customers can be difficult, below-average pay. Management ok, depends on who you get. Very outdated systems that are often impossible to work with. Incredibly long interview process. Not at all what I was expecting.

Good benefits
Essential Banker (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 20 August 2023
Working in the branch is not as sales focused as the bank that I have also worked at. There seems to be more of a focus on customer service. There is more of an expectation to handle complaints and take calls which you'd expect head office to deal with. There is a great pension and the pay isn't too bad either. It's an easy job but can be a dead end, however if you're not too bothered about progression then it's great.

Specialist Collector & Negotiator (Former Employee) - Northampton - 18 August 2023
Management in my time there was a 50 year old women who didn't care about anything but the weekend, her holidays and her eventual retirement. Just wanted to sit on her big salary and stagnate. Poor promotion opportunities for the 200+ people working in collections & recoveries as there were only a handful of roles available in either management or 'head ofs' Pay was awful but then it was only a starting role and next to anyone could do it. Shift work in a call centre so you were monitored for every second. Would recommend to a 18 year old just starting out, but make sure you work it out quick, then look to move on out or up to what you want to do.
Pros
Great team. Still keep in contact with them now 8+ years later.
Cons
Management, pay, progression

Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Remote - 13 August 2023
Good training but did feel like you were thrown into the deep end when signed off Poor pay but there are chances to do overtime All depends on the type of manager you have as each can be very different and make or break your experience

Great company to work for, but…
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Swindon - 12 August 2023
Constantly changing policies, difficult to book time off. However very supportive managers & co workers. Typical day is obvs taking a lot of calls, can be quite repetitive.

Quite a stressful workplace with a lot of expectations if goals are not achieved for whatever reason you will not qualify for pay rise or bonus
Member Representative (Current Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne - 9 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Very family orientated and people focused What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Meeting expectations of "selling" extra products What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Fair but your face must fit otherwise it can be stressful What is a typical day like for you at the company? Very very bust with lots of expectations

Extremely supportive environment
Senior Contact Center Digital Consultant (Current Employee) - Remote - 1 August 2023
I have worked in healthcare for over 10 uears and have never received the same level of support as I do with Nationwide, now. Everyone is so welcoming, friendly and ready to help you when needed.
Pros
Remote working

Productive
Member Representative (Former Employee) - Middlesbrough - 28 July 2023
Overall good place to work. Although if you make a mistake you will be out! As a member Rep you are asked to do a lot, it seems fair at first but once you pass your 6 months the pressure can be a little overwhelming and not reflected in the pay.
Pros
Good environment
Cons
Some are quick to throw you under the bus

Up and down
Mortgage Consultant (Current Employee) - Home Based - 20 July 2023
Hr mess up pay Now they are wanting to make us multi skilled with no pay increase when others who are multi skilled are on 10k more. My manager is amazing but others are horrible and all about stats stats stats. Very repetitive and no way to progress unless you been there for 10 odd years. No work given for in between calls which can be up to 45 mins but you are not allowed to do other things while waiting for call otherwise ‘ you aren’t ready for calls’
