Network Rail Employee Review
Not what it was.
Maintenance (Current Employee) - Yorkshire - 23 September 2023
Typical day…. Load van Travel to site Sit in van all day because the safety methods used by NWR on days to access track don’t work, yet they don’t and won’t listen. Management are mostly dreadful but not all. Don’t expect any empathy, understanding or to be treated with any dignity. Everything they tell you in their briefs about how caring and understanding they are is nothing but false nonsense. Only staying as the salary is decent, a few years from pension and hoping for another round of voluntary severance in a few years time!!
Pros
Salary and pension
Cons
Oppressive management styles, concerns fall on deaf ears. Modernising Maintenance.

Once a great job
Track maintenance (Former Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 28 September 2022
When this was BR it was a great environment to work in. Since privatisation the job it self has gone down hill every man for himself culture management needing more & more out of the workforce at the end it became a very unhappy place to work. At the end of the day you are just a number & easily replaced
Pros
Pay
Cons
Management Treatment & no consideration of home life

Good company, bad management
OHL Maintenance (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 27 July 2022
As above, just be very careful what department you got to. Good pay but people never happy. Also don’t care if they injure you medically. They will just blame you.

Signal operative
Signals and telecom maintenance (Former Employee) - Dunfermline, IL - 15 December 2019
Dealing with major signal faults were trains are being delayed and cancelled makes the job exciting and fast thinking. At a grade 2 level Iearn and watch the higher level technicians do what needs done and learn how to succeed in the issue at hand. It's a job were I can constantly learn new things everyday.
