The most useful review selected by IndeedMost of the time you will be cleaning, serving and setting up. Easy job to learn but lots to remember and alot of physical activity such as lifting heavy tins and tables etc.
Pros
Brilliant for single parents needing part time work, that fits around school time. Uniform provided.
Cons
My experience was a stressful, unorganised work space that was badly managed but over all I'd work for the company again.

Worst place I have ever worked
Facilities assistant/Administrator (Former Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne - 15 November 2021
I worked for newcastlw Council for just under 1 year. My managers were very 8 supportive although I got excellent feedback from other staff and members of the community for my work as I went above and beyond. I am disabled and could not carry out an element of my job due to this disability which was declared at the interview and also onmy application form because of this towards the end of my probation period I was told I had failed my probation when my union produced evidence I had done all other aspects of the job brilliantly I was told my probation would be extended for 1 month to which they still failed my probation and alternately I was let go from the company. My union asked them to relocate me to another position or just take the aspect of the job I could not do away from my duties this was refused by management although occupational health had also reccomended this and stayed I was capable of the other aspects of the job. I was given a referral to access to work where I was told I needed special equipment to do my job to its fullest. I received this equipment which just sat in a box was never set up and was there until the day I was let go. If you want any support from managers I reccomend you look at a different company as this offers no support whatsoever. Also the wage was disgraceful.
Pros
I worked with anorher lovely girl who I have remained friends with, and there were other departments that seemed to really look after their staff
Cons
My managers were awful and grouped together like a covern of witches

Nepotism
Contracts Manager (Former Employee) - Allendale road. Newcastle upon tyne - 13 June 2020
It’s like a family run business, run by bullies, management structure is so poor. Mostly nepotism applies . It was once a good place to work but for the past 10 years it’s been run by bullies.

Stressful but enjoyable and rewarding. The teachers' job deserves much higher payment.
Continuing Education Tutor (Former Employee) - Westgate Community College, Newcastle City Learning - 21 November 2019
For nearly 20 years of work in the same college, I felt secure in my teaching job. However, I would rate work/life balance as 80% to 20%. Accessible but domineering management puts a lot of pressure on teachers especially with regard to time-consuming admin paperwork. On the positive side, there was a lot of CPD training which added to my IT and admin paperwork skills. I have also gained invaluable experience in teaching diverse and multicultural groups and awareness of the asylum and migrant system. The most notable and rewarding part of the job was teaching and my students' achievements.

Kitchen assistant (Current Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear - 7 October 2019
I love working in my kitchen. We are like a small family.
Kitchens are very busy, and there is often over time available. And another plus is that you get all the school holidays off

Be prepared to work hard, listen well and work across other schools.
Catering Assistant (Former Employee) - Primary schools in Newcastle upon tyne. - 5 September 2019
Great kitchen colleagues. We all helped each other. This job is ideal if you have kids at school as hours and holidays suit. I spent my 4 years at this job very happy. If you have any problems, the management are willing to do what they can to help. I only had one problem at another school kitchen but it was quickly resolved. Hard, fast work but worth it.
