Awful but motivational as in you want to improve yourself so you don’t have to work places like that
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 5 December 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The people but not the managers What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Shifts changes without prior notice. Wages can be wrong with no explanation. Managers are rude and you’re treated with little respect. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Toxic, managers talk about other employees behind their backs in the staff room, unprofessional. Shifts gets changed without notice then employees are told tough, you need to sort it. Managers are mediocre at best with little or no training how to be motivation and get the best out of the team. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Get in, serve customers, tidy stock room. Have a 15-30 minute lunch then back to the same tasks

Stressful and a lot of pressure
Stock Coordinator (Former Employee) - Hayle - 1 December 2023
During my time at Next there was a lot of gossiping that I witnessed, unnecessary drama and conflicts. Management were not supportive, the would often sit in the office gossiping about the staff and would only ever work on the shop floor if colleagues were busy with a rush of customers
Pros
Discounts on clothing for work
Cons
Negative energy

Toxic backstabbing, lack of teamwork a huge divide between managers and staff. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Power trip manager
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) - Hamilton, South Lanarkshire - 24 November 2023
Worked here first job for a while. Good experience but one manager didn't treat me well. Like I was there to be put down. If you have lower self esteem I wouldn't recommend it. Apart from the one manager I liked it and probably would've stayed. I don't think all managers at next bully young people as much. I really hope not as it's not fair.
Pros
Work experience/discount
Cons
Bullying manager

Toxic Environment
Fraud Investigator (Former Employee) - Leicester - 23 November 2023
The Next headoffice is toxic environment to work. It's always exciting in the beginning. Poor management, financial detriment, no bonus, partial, they will stress you out proper and then hand over mental health support leaflet. Lack of support. Apart from handful good one, most managers are horrible and not helpful at all. Poor HR / staff relationships.
Pros
Staff shop, work perks, big parking.

Better not to go if you have any pride and self esteem
Wherehouse operative (Former Employee) - Doncaster - 23 November 2023
It was good at the beginning, but after a while, they only abuse you and make you fell like you don’t deserve anything in life but do what they say. And not to say that 60% of the time the supervisor and the managers don’t know what they are doing, and that very much reflects on your job.
Pros
Decent canteen
Cons
Very, very bad management

Store Colleague (Current Employee) - Bkackpole, worcester - 17 November 2023
Staff were nice in general but the top manager wasn't approachable. Manager unreasonable when told you couldn't do a particular day. Manager would flip at the drop of a hat, totally unprofessional. Staff favouritism which led to them getting the better jobs while the others were left on tills all day. No feedback from managers.

Amazing colleagues, bad management.
Sales Associate (Current Employee) - South Yorkshire - 8 November 2023
The people I work with are amazing, we're a real collaborative team who work closely together and even spend time together outside of work. Store Management, are less amazing. Can be very passive aggressive and rude. The kind of people you feel like you're walking on eggshells around. Can be a very uncomfortable work place. Not enough staff and because of that they often put you in for extra shifts despite it saying you can't do those days on your availability. Would not recommend, sadly.

Ok for temporary stopgap.
Retail Assistant (Former Employee) - Scarborough - 6 November 2023
Did several Christmases here in roles that covered everything from sticking labels on sale items in the basement to being in charge of a department after Christmas for a day, at times stressful, other times boring but it paid expenses and had a discount.
