Serving humanity in a demanding and challenging work environment.
Although it’s in my past, I would happily consider working again for the NHS - not for the money or work environment but for contributing to the service and well-being of society and the deeply satisfying feeling that comes from doing so. Excessive management layers and a sometimes toxic working environment can be damaging to workers’ physical and emotional health.

Wonderful staff...when they're there
Chaotic place to work. Recruitment/HR are a mess. I was offered the job in February but couldn't actually start working until the end of May because they took forever to process everything. It really opened my eyes to the current state of the NHS at the moment, and that's nothing to do with the staff. The nurses are lovely, and highly skilled, but there are not enough of them. The shifts are 12 hours with only an hour break, and because there aren't enough staff to allow an uninterrupted 1-hour lunch, your break is split up, so 20 mins tea break and then a further 40 mins for lunch. It's just not enough time to rest considering the level of physical work involved in that long shift. The staff burn out quickly and the patient-to-nurse ratio is quite frankly unsafe. It was my first day as a trainee nursing assistant, and I arrived to work in the morning to find it was going to be me, and 1 nurse for the 12-hour day looking after 27 patients...

Over worked and very underpaid
Management has not managed resources well to create a conducive environment for staff. The junior level workers are grossly unappreciated financially, yet are the engine in the oil of the organisation.

Great and rewarding just understaffed
Job would be amazing if staffing was amazing which unfortunately it’s not been made to be an attractive job. Staff are supportive in most places you work

work
long hours, unusual work-life balance. Depending on where you work it can be intense but again this all depends on your choice of speciality. The pay is ok
