Job Security is the best (no one can fire you even if you are rubbish at your job) but job satisfaction is dire
Middle management (Current Employee) - Midlands - 25 March 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat for working mums who need job security and part time hours, but you will do as much work (probably more) as the full time staff, always pushed to do more and be totally burned out, but trapped to stay as there are no part time jobs anywhere else.

Fair place to work
Manager (Current Employee) - South West - 16 May 2022
It could be worse, the NHS has suffered over the past 2 years with the Covid pandemic. Lots of changes brought in at even faster pace not always enabling staff and teams to keep up

Don't work here unless you're desperate
Manager (Former Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 24 April 2022
Bullying management. High expectations, low real genuine care for employees. No wonder the NHS is such a mess, too many managers creating work for no good reason.

Great employer
Manager (Current Employee) - Norwich, Norfolk - 29 December 2021
I enjoy working here and recommend it to others. As one of the largest Norfolk employers it has lots of opportunity to explore roles and also advancement.

Poor
Manager (Former Employee) - Manager - 7 February 2021
The Digital Services team is not a good team to work for. There are too many people with HR related issues and so much internal politics A typical day is just full of stress because of the types of people at work. It is not a friendly atmosphere The hardest part of the job is the internal fighting. The most enjoyable part of the job is the delivery

Stressful and unpleasant environment to work in.
Management (Current Employee) - Norwich - 29 January 2021
Beware what you wish for; an unpleasant place to work. The quality of management varies considerably, too many poorly qualified and experienced staff in senior positions. Management should should look in the mirror before criticising others.
Pros
You get paid and patients are grateful for what you do for them.
Cons
Too many to list

Terrible
Manager (Current Employee) - London, Greater London - 8 November 2020
The company has gotten worse over the years. Management has no engagement with the staff and your treated with no compassion Just got to work now to pay the bills.

Level of racism is high in OUH
Manager (Former Employee) - John Radcliffe - 11 August 2020
Many Line managers do not offer support to their staff in meeting targets especially if their staff are foreigners and that needs to change rather they seek ways to make life difficult and stressful until such a staff resigns.
Pros
The experience gained will come in handy
Cons
They have a culture that prevents foreigners from progressing professionally and if you do progress, they push you out.

Improving
Manager (Former Employee) - Staffordshire - 16 July 2020
Overall a good place to work, relaxed culture some may say too relaxed. Certain HR policies are weak and make staff management difficult. Senior management are listening and trying to improve culture and workplace.

Bullying
Manager (Current Employee) - Torquay, Devon - 30 June 2020
Shocking culture of bullying and intimidation from directors and senior managers and nothing is ever done about it. Freedom to speak up doesn't work. Cost cutting left right and centre and nobody cares about staff.
Pros
Helping patients
Cons
Directors and managers behaviours

Jobs at NHS
Manager positionsDo your homework
Manager (Former Employee) - Sandwell, West Midlands - 5 June 2020
See how many people worked in the post advertised, and seek them out to understand why they left.
Dont believe what's promised at interview, unless you get it in writing.
Make sure you ask what in addition to the JD is requested from you.
Ask questions about management style and expectation.
Ask for a floor walk to check out morale.
Otherwise Goodluck.

Poor culture
Manager (Former Employee) - South Yorkshire - 15 May 2020
They talk a lot about values, however behaviours of staff and senior leaders is often contrary to these. Also if you are 'different' it can be a very difficult place to work as the organisation does not act against individuals that behave in what would be viewed as offensive / inappropriate in another organisation.

Management are bullies
Manager (Former Employee) - Essex - 12 April 2020
Terrible place to work, no support from management, just a bunch of bullies who pushes anyone out that stands up to them. I would strong advise against working there.

Great job helping people
MDM Manager (Former Employee) - Kettering, Northamptonshire - 12 April 2020
Great working in NHS helping people - but lots of politics - knowing that I am part of an intuition that help save lives is great satisfaction - NHS needs to reform, transform and modernise

Lack of objectivity
It's a brilliant organisation to work if you are a clinical professional. However, to work in the administrative and managerial sector it presents unnecessary challenges of discrimination. Your overall growth is dependent on who you know instead of one's talent and ability to perform.

Culture needs to change to improve relationships and engage staff
Manager (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 29 February 2020
Worked in NHS most of my life, Id like to move out. Travel and culture is difficult especially with family staff relationships. Training and development is good.
Pros
Training
Cons
Culture

Keep some of yourself back
The work never stops and if you don't keep some of yourself in reserve it will swallow you or you will move on to your next role elsewhere. In fact this is a great place as a stepping stone. Don't stay too long as you will end up carrying more responsibily than you are remunerated for...and will find it very difficult to get away from. Lots of great colleagues and training but getting cover when you are away is very difficult.

If your face doesn't fit
Manager (Former Employee) - Poole, Dorset - 15 February 2020
They will find a way to take you out. I witnessed this happen around me.and low and behold the day came for me to be accused of something I hadn't done. They do this alot, it destroys peoples lives. They financially compensate with public money.

Difficult to fit in and ask for help
Expect high standards but offer little time or support to achieve and learn. Patient care and ward staff are excellent but the management culture is judgemental and click. Outsiders are not part of tgd gang so are isolated and mocked.ideasideas are mocked as it has always been dine the old way. ate a threat and treated
Pros
Care from ED and ward staff is excellent...they work hard and care.
Cons
Dislike of new innivatiin and outsiders

Process and regulation driven
Manager (Current Employee) - London, Greater London - 17 January 2020
NHS typically has defined roles within set parameters.
Deadlines are well known in advance.
Management is competent if overloaded.
Enthusiasm for innovation is not missing, but resources for extra projects are tight.

Busy, pressured and competitive but diverse and interesting
MEM Manager (Former Employee) - Royal Devon And Exeter NHS Foundation Trust - 21 November 2019
The best part is the reward that you receive from knowing that you have made a difference, that everything that you did never lost sight of those you held responsibility for.
A typical day would normally include unpaid overtime, it will be diverse, busy and there will be multiple requests for different works to be completed and provided to others for presentation.
Culture and management - is powerful and if you fit in you will receive high investment, be given many opportunities and, in terms of career progression, be rewarded with rapid career progression and promotion.
