It's all about money... Or the lack of it
Band 3 medical secretary (Former Employee) - Leeds City Centre - 14 August 2016
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe nhs is run like a business, and has always run on the goodwill of its employees because they care about the patient. The bandings have changed and your still expected to perform the same work and more besides for less money because of the decrease in bandings. It's all about cut backs and budgets
Pros
?? Free flu jab.. Discount at nandos
Cons
More work for less money

Medical Secretary (Former Employee) - Leeds Geneeral Infirmary - 10 August 2015
Managing a Consultant's theatre list.
Booking theatre anaesthetists
Typing clinic notes.
Dealing with patient queries over the telephone.
Managing Consultants post
The role of a medical secretary is a responsible position which I took very seriously and thoroughly enjoyed.
The most difficult part of the job was to ensure the Consultant's theatre list was managed to full capacity, which often led to dealing with last minute cancellations.
Pros
Job satisfaction
Cons
Stressful at times.

Medical Secretary - Grade 4 (Former Employee) - Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - 11 May 2012
Answering telephones and speaking to health and non-health professionals. Audio/copy typing for a number of clinicians from consultants to counsellors. General office administration from photocopying to sending out post. I was very good at my job being one of the fastest and most accurate secretaries in the department who was able to take the pressure of the clinicians when needed. The management were great and very approachable with any problems whether this be work related or personal. Co-workers were absolutely fantastic and I keep in touch with them all. Some of them tended to come and see me if they had problems and I would listen to them and help where I could. Losing patients. Learning that we had actually found a genetic reason for someone being ill and conversing with patients on a daily basis.
