Ok
Receptionist (Current Employee) - Tayside Region - 14 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOk place to work. Management could do with an overhaul. If you get a good team to work with you're sorted, if not, you're stuffed. Wage not reflective of duties and responsibilities - poor in comparison. Much room for improvement but no one listens.

Long days and not fun
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Walsall, West Midlands - 21 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Set days off always a weekend off What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Amount of stress that you have to get through when you can’t offer a patient an appointment when all the other admin work gets on top of you and you don’t get any help What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Boring and robot like the other doctors are private and will treat and speak to you like you mean nothing What is a typical day like for you at the company? Calls from 8am non stop all day plus admin work if you are scheduled for it

Great benefits but terrible management
Receptionist/Administrator (Former Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne - 21 October 2023
Twice I have had the pleasure of working for the NHS in two completely different settings but the management is similar, they're pushy but refuse to deal with issues like bullying which is rife. Other staff can talk to you whichever way they like and treat you like dirt and if you dare to speak up for yourself or a member of your own team you will be managed out of your position and career, which is what has happened to myself. They only think of themselves and will step on anyone to climb that career ladder, they don't want to have to actually do their job of managing their staff properly which is why the NHS have such a bad track record with bullying. The best part is feeling like you are making a difference to the patients and they are usually forever grateful. Hospital outpatients 7 day service positions mean that you will have your days changed weekly which means you don't have a set rota much like the nurses. The benefits are second to none as you are paid from day 1 if you are sick and with each year you get a month per year sick allowance, so year 0-1 it's 1 month plus 1 month half pay, years 1-2 it's 2 months/2 months and so on until you reach 6 years/months.
Pros
Great sickness benefit
Cons
If it's a 7 day service your days change weekly

Friendly workplace
Receptionist (Current Employee) - Arbroath - 17 August 2023
Engaging with people is the most enjoyable part of my job. A typical day includes; diverting incoming calls to correct person in a timely manner. Distributing incoming mail to correct departments. Organising outgoing mail to internal and external. Book rooms for visiting clinicians.

OK but depends what Grade you are
Receptionist/Administrator (Former Employee) - King's Lynn, Norfolk - 9 August 2023
Anyone on or below Grade 3 staff are treated as if a lower class by the more senior staff including secretary's. Clicky and if you weren't born in Norfolk or lived there 30 years you are asked why you moved there. Old fashioned and outdated. OK to temp but not a long term move

Workplace enjoyable
Receptionist (Current Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 11 January 2023
I enjoy my place of work some days it can be busy and can be quick paced and others more relaxed. Staff are great, management is ok but not the greatest only hard part of the job is dealing with the public as we are first point of contact and most times we get the brunt end of it.
Pros
NHS Discounts, Good staff

Like most jobs working for the NHS you are in the public eyes as withholding treatment or not doing things correctly or quickly enough. This can become very stressful and disheartening

Fun work place, mental torture
Receptionist/Administrator (Former Employee) - Hartlepool, Durham - 30 August 2022
Co workers are the best part but working with the general public is tiring. Sometimes find it hard to work in the reception role due to the constant demand.

Receptionist/Administrator (Former Employee) - Plymouth - 29 July 2022
Staff are so stressed and over worked. The answer in there is too create another level of management to ‘manage’ but what you really need is the correct amount of staff and the right equipment. Staff are so hard working and gives so much.

No support from Management
Receptionist/Administrator (Former Employee) - East Midlands - 28 June 2022
Difficult job during the pandemic. Management unsupportive. The pay is not reflective of job's responsibilities. There is high staff turnover. Blame culture.
