It’s ok

Indeed featured review

Nothing special but good work ethic from the team I work in, management ok but if want to ask something feel a bit put out, as they always busy, no proper staff room, but friendly and caring colleagues

Great temporary role

Test and trace was a great role which really gave a sense of importance and like you’re doing something worthwhile, really supportive and helpful staff

Horrible

Horrible place to work, bullying culture. Lots of room for progression but jobs are given based on who you know not what you know. Staff are not appreciated at all, never praised when doing well but management are quick to point fingers when things not so good.

Pros

good annual leave after a few years. good pension

Cons

Overworked. Underpaid

Underpaid and under recognised job

As a porter you do more important and risk things but the culture around NHS is like just nurses and doctors exist. Most of the time your work is not recognised and your work with short staff and the payment is just balanced by the unsociable hours and weekends and nights. But the amount of tasks that you do daily ar far more vast than people would expect

Pros

Stability, helping others

Cons

Incredible wrong balance on rota/life, no progression, working in an environment that has no cultural progression and room for improvement.

Exciting place to work

No two days are the same. You are open to a variety of experiences. A great place to learn different skills, from problem solving, events planning,to risk management. Communicating with members of the public, medics, senior managers to media.Colleague were very supportive of each other. You felt as if you were part of a bigger team.

Pros

Canteen lunchs and NHS staff discounts

Cons

At times long hours

Good and bad

The good - you actually have a secure job, with benefits, NHS pension. The philosophy of the NHS as a free healthcare provision at point of need is beautiful.Cons - the NHS is a congested system. Probably free healthcare getting too loftier a goal to reach. Or probably intentional jeopardising of the system by people in high places. Trickles down to a place filled with stifling bureaucracy, poor job satisfaction and low pay.

culture of cliques intimidating

Not all parts of NHS Work in the same way, it’s down to management how each dept is ran which creates a clique culture. I loved working there at first. But if you get intimidated bullied it’s easier for some management to turn a blind eye, to pretend as if they support you , but as management control themselves within each dept, even HR choose to not get involved allowing them to sort their own in house issues . In my opinion/experience issues are never dealt with . It’s easier for management to ignore rather deal with or escalate a problem. I left due to this unhealthy culture which towards the end caused depression with no support. If you are lucky enough to work for a dept with good manager then it’s not all that bad..

Don’t do it

Low paid. Unappreciated.Stressful with a culture of bullying.Unreasonable expectations making it difficult to maintain a good home/work balance.Expensive meals, but meal breaks are short and you often don’t get them anyway.Expensive car parking with limited availability

Pros

Some staff benefits

Cons

Long and unsocial hours

Challenging but supportive

I trained as a PWP and I was lucky enough to be kept on once I qualified. The team are very supportive and they are aware that working as a PWP is very demanding. Work-life balance is a challenge but management are aware of this, but unfortunately it is the nature of working as a PWP. The service try to support you in anyway they can.

Pros

Friendly team

Cons

High workload

Beneficial

You learn lifelong valued skills within healthcare. If you are in the right team it can be very enjoyable to work. Some teams often have clicks especially from the older the staff. If the team is good it makes your day much better

Pros

Discounts

Cons

Work load, stress

a very stressful place to work

NHS is a place to work, your first week at work is very interesting because you have to interact with people from different background and culture, but apart from that, nothing good about working in NHS, full of bullying, discrimination, intimidation and stressfull.

supportive

Very supportive structures in place. especially in more stressful roles. Friendy welcoming staff. Some clicks but they weren't toxic. just likeminded

Over stretched team, understaffed and stressful !

Nursing is understaffed and the nurses and teams in nhs as a whole are expected to work under stressful and risky to patient situations. Poor support for same reason and I found there to be a culture of cliques and favouritism. The job is a reliable source of income but nhs has changed due to all the cut backs affecting patient experience and resulting in low morale at work with little job satisfaction.

Good culture, secure employment

I worked for the NHS in a clinical setting for around 10 years. I worked in a variety of settings including ED, palliative care, paediatrics and community. Staff on the whole are happy to be at work. Especially in the community. Here, staff are well looked after, and treated fairly. Of course there is job pressure, but it is manageable. Pay is in line with National pay grades throughout the NHS. You are well supported if sick. Generally there is a good culture of teamwork. CPD is very well supported, and appropriate time off given for this. Job security is excellent.

Pros

CPD support

Cons

Long hours, and can be intense
