What if there are only a few vacancies in my area?
Asked by NHS Healthcare Support Workers 15 November 2020
If there are only a few vacancies in your area, or if the role is already showing as having ‘many applicants’, you should absolutely still apply. Sometimes Trusts will put up a single advert for the role, but there could be 10 or 50 or 100 vacancies behind it. One way to tell this will be if a job advert says ‘various departments’ and ‘various locations’ on it. Therefore, we would encourage you to apply for any vacancy you are interested in.

What if there are no vacancies currently in my area?
Asked by NHS Healthcare Support Workers 15 November 2020
New vacancies are being added all the time. If there are currently no vacancies in your area, you can sign up to receive email job alerts via the Indeed. We would also suggest that you sign up for NHS vacancy email alerts on the NHS Jobs website jobs.nhs.uk/xi/search_vacancy. These can be tailored so that you receive job alerts specific to the band you’re looking for (eg band 2) and / or the type of work you want to do (eg mental health) when they become available in your area.If you are keen to join the NHS in a specific field, eg mental health, we would also encourage looking at more general Healthcare Support Worker roles. There may be band 2 roles available that are not specific to mental health, but which would help you develop similar skills and experience. You could then make mental health, or any other chosen area, your next career step when a vacancy becomes available. You can find Healthcare Support Worker roles alongside Mental Health Support Worker roles on Indeed at www.jobs.nhs.uk/xi/search_vacancy/.
