Its great to know you have some great colleagues within your team supporting you through your days. Thanks so much for sharing - Your NHSP Team!

struggling to find shifts working NHSp so have no idea why they are recruiting. There has been no support for their full time or part time staff.

It’s a very hard job, most times being moved from the ward you have booked. There are no shifts available so we can not plan more than 1 week ahead. The morale is low and lots are leaving the company .

Pros

Flexibility

Cons

No work

Flexible

Choose shift when you want, best flexibility of any role I’ve ever had. Only concern is if there aren’t many shifts, but that is no different to any other agency

Enjoyed the job but spoiled by management

What is the best part of working at the company?Weekly pay, providing authorised, for clinical duties ability to to select shifts and department, non clinical fixed to department dependent on health trust requirements What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Being fixed to a department, unable to help in other sectors, having to wait for notification of requirements, shifts worked omitted from calendar, due to managers working practices What is the work environment and culture like at the company? No different to being employed by NHS wearing same dress code What is a typical day like for you at the company?Portering for department can be tough on feet, walking up to 10 mile per day non stop walking, only a break at lunchtime

terrible place to work

No flexibility at all, manager was awful, very aggressive controlling behaviour. Antiquated systems, very hard to use. Spend more time ticking boxes than actually training staff

Difficult place to work- no flexibility- under appreciated

Work from home positions I have never experienced one like this. Micro management is at all level high. You get monitored for breaks within the day (even toilet ones) and you Will have feedback on any breaks and where to improve!! Gets to the point you actually don’t even want to use a toilet as it may be used against you in any meetings with a manager!! I don’t find at all a home/work balance. you can never switch off. Huge lack of support once you’re on a call and you are the punching bag for most people and expected to take it with no support after. Raised that it is a supporting place to work, but it really didn’t feel that way. You can thrive in all areas - be the best customer service worker and still feel knocked down.. even after brilliant feedback from customers and other co workers. No praise whatsoever from management and difficult to get hold of anyone! I have never experienced a job where I felt so judged or pushed into being at a certain stage so early into a career. Some nice people that are helpful when you need that bit of support , but lucky if you can grab someone nobody is anywhere esecially any “management!!”

Good pay and flexible shifts

Worked here while I was studying for nursing at uni. Good range of shifts in a range of different areas and paid enhancements for working weekends and nights.

Poor decisions

Patients stay in for long periods of time which seems to be excessive except for the schedule 1 offenders who appear to have lack remorse. Concerning disclosures made about re-offending yet moved from medium secure to low secure.

very average

no career progression, but very easy to book shifts on the app, they have a team that call you randomly to book shifts but is not very helpful as the app does everything. most departments are very good to work with. trying to get hold or contact nhsp is very difficult.

Great hospital with dedicated staff

A few issues with bullying and unkind behaviour with select members of staff however on the whole, a supportive environment with opportunities for development.

Best place to work

Happy to work for the NHS. Good benefits, understanding management and lovely colleagues. Ample leaves, sick leave, Carer leave, bereavement leave and etc. I was also funded by the NHS to further development courses. I was granted study leaves to focus and finish my course successfully. Many opportunities within the trust to grow professionally. They hold a good induction/ supernumerary period for the staff to learn the new department. The only drawback is being redeployed to other wards to cover their staff shortages.

Quick money

Weekly pay....Plenty of shifts up until recently. Can be stressful getting shifts authorised. OK if you go get on with your job and go home. Don't get dragged into ward drama

Good place to work

Friendly environment, you can work at your own pace and choose what roles you want to do.However no room for career progression and difficult to get a permanent contract.

NHS is great but management is not

Hospital porter is ok getting into lifts chucking rubbish in the bins easy job but then you sit down for 2 hours having to listen to comments that belong in the 1980s the money is great and you can see some people want to change from the 80s environment old boys club but until it does its not a place for me its a shame though as i wanted to help the NHS but most people are great and really care im only going on about my experience within the porters at The Royal hallamshire hospital

Pros

great people who save lives

Cons

porter management old guys with 80s attitude

Challenging environment, rewarding role. A lot of admin and shift rotation.

Working for the NHS is fine, as a band 5 you have a lot of responsibilities and pressure. But the support is typically there if needed, sickness policy was good for me as long as it’s used appropriately. Alot of shift rotation which physically can take its toll on you, as long as you can evidence this shouldn’t be an issue.Always overtime available typically which is nice
