Stressful and toxic
Cleaner/Caretaker (Current Employee) - Kirk Hammerton, North Yorkshire - 1 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedHave worked there for nearly a year. The staff there don't talk to you unless they are complianing about something or asking you to do work that is not part of your contract. Don't tell you what's going on or inform you of event's or meetings. Ask you to repair thing's without anything but basic tools or item's. Overall a toxic place to work.

Rewarding and rewarded
Commissioning and Contacting Officer (Current Employee) - Northallerton, North Yorkshire - 27 June 2023
I genuinely love working for North Yorkshire Council. Every day is different but I feel like I am making a genuine impact on the lives of children and young people without North Yorkshire. I feel valued, listed to, respected, treated with professionalism and equality. I have a manger and team who are supportive and kind, we are one team in one Council all working towards the same goal shaping a brighter future for our Council and its residents. Everyone I have worked with has been professional and respectful. Sometimes all you need to keep motivated is a thank you and everyone is so grateful if the work you put in.
Pros
Really supportive team and structure
Cons
Always having to deliver more for less or with less resource

2 August 2023Thank you for leaving such a great review. We are really pleased that you are experiencing the values the council promote, have a great working relationship with your Manager and colleagues. We're very grateful and cannot thank employees like yourself for your work and commitment to your service.
Ok job
Care and Support Worker extra care (Former Employee) - Northallerton, North Yorkshire - 16 May 2023
This job was ok I liked the clients. I left because some of the staff members were horrible, managers were ok and tried but night staff were bullies some morning handovers were awful with Night workers screaming at the day staff. I had panic attacks at the thought of the handovers with certain staff members. Apparently this has gone on for years. I found another job and left.
Pros
Extra shifts
Cons
Night staff workers

Hard stressful work
Team Leader (Former Employee) - North Yorkshire - 27 April 2023
You’re just a number, far too many managers doing nothing apart from sit in meetings creating paperwork for the workers and team leaders. Managers who never reward you for your good work but jump on you if you or a team member make a mistake. Expected to do additional hours if workers don’t turn up. The work life balance is terrible if you complain your told is part of the job. Shut up and put up attitude!
Pros
Not a lot
Cons
Heavy workload awful higher management

Changes ahead
Marketing and Customer Communications Officer (Current Employee) - Northallerton - 28 March 2023
It's been incredibly busy over the last 12 months as we had towards a unitary council. However, this means more opportunity, more support, more resource and the chance to work in new areas.
Pros
Flexi time, flexible working hours
Cons
Lots to do, little resource.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who has been working behind the scenes as we move towards the Unitary Council, it is a very busy time and we cannot thank you enough for all the work that you are and continue to do. Support is available if you need it as we take staff welfare seriously. We are looking forward to making the most of all the opportunities the new Council brings us.
Painful
IT Technician (Current Employee) - Northallerton, North Yorkshire - 24 March 2023
Painful and management sit on things for too long. Planning is poor and customer service is lacking specially when you want to be able to give good services because of bureaucracy. Other than that management are nice and will listen to you but implementing it is another matter

This is a very demanding job and a high level of fitness is required, you are not looked after here you are at the lowest end of the pay scale as well, you will work through heavy rain and snow and extreme heat and it's tough but you generally can go home as soon as you have finished, although that could be set to change, thank fully i left last year for a better job
Pros
Currently task and finish
Cons
very very tough job

Demoralising and not what I hoped for!
Care Support Worker (Former Employee) - Northallerton - 14 March 2023
At first I enjoyed the work, the other members of staff were mainly wonderful and supportive, managers less so and demoralised me. I expected more support and encouragement with training and got none. Sadly the usual favouritism and elements of bullying...not what I expected at all.
Pros
The residents
Cons
Unpleasant atmosphere
