OK but not enough opportunities for advancement
You do tend to perform duties not in your job description due to lack of staff. Micro management is not good for staff who like to work on their own.Pay does not reflect the market value. No pay rise for two years as civil service. If you're lucky to get one it will be the minimum of 2%.No bonus award system.

A deeply poor experience. Avoid.
Toxic environment. A lot of rude and entitled employees who think the grass is greener. It isn't. When I advised my manager I was leaving she became bitter and resentful. A lot of finger-pointing. Weak senior management who can't make decisions. Place is a shambles and things are made up they go along.

Great place to work
I did a legal placement year with Ofgem and it was great. I learnt so much and everyone is very supportive and helpful. Also a great work life balance
Assistant manager - renewable heat incentive in Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow

Appalling bullying and mismanagement
This was one of the most toxic and bullying work environments I was ever subject to. They had a revolving door policy to employment and staff, with most people scared to speak up. When I voiced my concerns about this I was told that my contract would not be renewed. I was relieved in the end.
Principal Legal Adviser in London, Greater London

Cerebral workplace
Ofgem is tasked with protecting the interests of energy consumers, and so makes sure our lights stay on, our gas hobs work; and strives to keep energy prices affordable. Challenging task. Energy companies are in business to make profits for owners & shareholders, and Ofgem works to see they comply with the relevant legal frameworks efficiently & safely, as Ofgem aims for the government's 2050 net zero greenhouse gas emissions target. Fast paced cerebral work.
