Horrible, stressfull, no compassion for staff

6 yrs I was with these, no compassion from upper management constantly putting workers down, no reward for amazing care given only negative ROC given except for the care staff who were in the click with leaders, highly stressful, constantly put with service users that would physically attack you, no change of face allowed made to put up and shut up. Made to feel any work related injury was your own fault and would have to get a doctors note even if it was for 1 day off, Would not recommend to anyone

Pros

Able to complete diploma

Cons

Everything about this place

Super amazing company to work for.

Really great company to work for. super supportive staff team and amazing service users which we support. Can get involved in all activities with the service users which is paid by the company on a staff allowance. Sit and eat meals with the service users. Management are very supportive, will work all hours to ensure that all shifts are covered and to support staff. Management are all for the staff and service user's making sure everything is within best interest. The job comes with supporting young who have autism, challenging behaviour and complex needs but with a fully supportive and experienced staff team you feel extremely safe. The workplace is just a generally happy place to be, making friends who you spend time with out of work on work nights out. Amazing company overall.

Pros

Supportive management and team - fun activities.

Cons

12 hour shifts - but supported throughout.

Great team. The role involves being "a parent" plus some admin,we will support you through this.

I have recently returned to the company and am in the process of building my staff team. We have so much fun, everyone is treated equally and as a team we really care for each other and young people. If you are looking for fun and dedicated team, please apply to weaveley in Oxfordshire.

Pros

Free accommodation and food on your shift patttern.

Cons

Long hours however down time and hours off during your working week

Outcomes first employees last

OFG took over the company I worked for and was with OFG for about 3 years. The company is now far too big for it to manage. Completely disorganised, shambles. The SLT have absolutely no clue about caring for vulnerable children it’s now a money making machine and it is such a shame that the sight has been lost of the purpose of our roles. There is a focus on fostering and the schools and residential services are forgotten because they don’t make as much profit, when this is where we care for the most in need. Resources are lacking, the homes run on extremely tight budgets where even food has to be scaled back and the staff teams always trying to source free stuff. If it wasn’t for the teams on the front line (whom they pay terribly) there wouldn’t be anything positive to say. I left and it’s the best thing I ever did

Pros

Individual teams, the children

Cons

Poor pay, no benefits, no work life balance, poor support, no progression, no meaningful training

Terrible management

No training, mangers lie saying they have trained you 1-2-1 where done and staff turnover high. If you over achieve you may receive a clap like a seal if your lucky . Directors haven’t a clue what’s happening below them shut themselves away in their Ivory towers and don’t want to know only come out when the minions have over achieved

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Everything

Great Learning curve & supportive staff

The staff are Amazing at Baston House, which specialises in youngsters with Autism - and they really made me feel welcome!! I was able to ask the HODs and/or 2ic staff, who were always open for collaboration and sharing ideas - very supportive and humble, yet, they were ready to listen to my ideas too.I immersed myself in the school environment - nice grounds with a very nice warm & friendly feel. I learned a lot of new skills and also built up my confidence in taking lead on activities and working with staff of all levels. I took lead on the Christmas Production and also designed the brochures. The most enjoyable part of the job was to see the smiles on the students' faces and the rapport we had with each other; this was immediate since I joined. The school celebrates many charity events and had a Christmas Jumper Day - which was a great success. The school has a great culture and a diverse mix of staff at the school.

Stressful and no breaks

Highly stressful job, 8 hour shifts not adequate breaks, expected to eat with clients but often not enough time to eat properly.Easily get dehydrated due to pace of job and insufficient breaks away from clients.Left lone working alot and no one checks to see if your okay, insufficient radios and often broken.Often out in rain, snow and hot sun for long periods of time without being able to go to toilet or have hot and cold drink.High turnover of staff as pay is not enough for what you are expected to do and have to go through each day-ie physically and mentally draining. No real staff area to relax in or keep your personal belongings safe, no wear to get changed or have a shower when needed and have to work the whole day in wet clothes and dirty. Due to showering clients, water play, mud and messy play. Constant minor and major injuries to staff and it's just part of the normal day, no time to heal.Colleagues mock you and try to get you to do more even though you physically can't due to injuries. Their is no real support for staff when struggling with mental health issues that are created from the job, staff just mock you and make horrible comments and make you feel worthless.I am a strong person but when I needed help of colleagues who I thought were friends, forget it as everyone is just out for themselves, even though I'd been nothing but kind to them.I will not recommend this place to anyone to work.

Rewarding

The position of foster carer is rewarding in itself but we are not thought very highly of and are often taken for granted or completely ignored. The allowance actually paid to us as carers is very low

Pros

Worthy cause

Cons

No back up

Enjoyable

I was a Deputy Manager for around 3 years and I worked mainly in the Welsh homes. This line of work can be hard but it is also rewarding, the shifts can go really quickly. I found the managerial support excellent and my line manager was supportive. The 2:4 shift pattern worked well for me. I only left due to taking my next steps in my career

Pros

2:4 shift pattern

Cons

Can be long hours when the young people are unsettled

Good place of work

I really enjoyed working at The Shires. Although there were a few things that narked me…. T huh info being brushed under the carpet. Etc. Easy enough to advance yourself. Although you advanced a lot quicker if you were “well in” with the director of care and education at the time. Regardless of whether you were competent in your work

Pros

Free food

Cons

Long hours…. Bad things brushed under carpet for the sake of ofsted outstanding review

Excellent management, pay could be better

The team are great to work with. Help is always available. The pay isn’t particularly going, especially for TAs and LSAs. The children receive a consistent approach with rewards and sanctions clearly explained and delivered.

Pros

Free lunches, friendly team, fun place to be

Cons

Pay isn’t in line with job roles

All about making money for the management, poor support for carers.

Plenty of better agencies to choose from.Do not recommend working for these.Repetitive training courses, sww leave after a year.Management don't care about foster carers or placements its all about making money.

Pros

Once a year day out they pay for.

Cons

No support from management
