Cool
Customer Care Agent (Current Employee) - Home Based - 23 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedNot too bad to work, decent money but the things you have to learn are a lot and quite hard, working from home is a nice aspect and they also let you decide if you want to come in to the office and have free lunch on Thursdays

Hard work
Customer Care Agent (Former Employee) - Home Based - 5 June 2022
Poor management and lack of clarity. No ability to transfer complaint calls as they just won’t take the call and expect you to deal with it even though you don’t have the authority to do

A company very split
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Perth - 19 April 2022
After OVO took over SSE, SSE staff have been made to feel like they are not wanted even though most have been there longer than OVO has even been around. Experience means very little to them only that they have to pay us more. The company is not focused on the CUSTOMER only it’s profits so it can bankroll all of stephens other ventures. The whole workforce is constantly worried about when the next round of redundancies will be. Yes they get their numbers no problem for voluntary redundancy but does that not speak volumes to senior management that it’s a bad place to work and there is something seriously wrong? The redundancy package isn’t that good that it’s the only reason people want to leave. Overall the company has a really bad work environment with little to no regard for peoples mental health with the way they treat people. They pay a lot of lip service to this but don’t actually care! I had the unfortunate pleasure of having to work with some OVO managers who do not like when you question what they are doing and speak your mind where as working at SSE this was encouraged and valued (not always agreed with but you were heard). OVO managers have a lot to learn from SSE managers but seems like they want to get rid of all the good bits that the SSE culture brought with it. Makes me very sad that the company is going this way!

Alot more involved than les to believe
Customer Care Agent (Former Employee) - Home Based - 4 March 2022
I was told it was general customer service and handling basic complaints. Upon starting, I found it to be a complex role which was far more involved than what was discussed in the interview. The training was rushed and wasnt broad enough for the role. Lots of technical problems with equipment couldn't play with the systems during training. Training not long enough. Not enough help for new starters was basically left to get on with it. Wages are good, but you definitely have to work for the money and must be jack of all trades. Want to squeeze every minute out of you a day. Very cliquey face fits type of enviroment.

Productive and fun workplace
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Bristol - 28 February 2022
Productive and fun workplace, but a lot of advisors from different departments don't follow the right process and it makes the job harder for those who do.

Jobs at OVO Energy
Good company to work for, decent salary and incentives
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Cardiff, Cardiff - 7 February 2022
Hybrid and flexi hours available which is great to manage healthy work balance especially if you have children. Inbound on GE is fast paced. Good holiday scheme with option to buy more hours

Stressful and lots of targets. Poor management
Stressful and very poor management. Job would be OK but mana3gement make it difficult to enjoy....if your face fits great but if you speak up they will knock you down. They do not follow the company's own guidelines

Fast paced, good salary/perks. Overall good company to work for. Can be alot of pressure to complete an unreasonable amount of jobs per day but that can be said of all companies.

Absolute lack of empathy
Manager (Former Employee) - Remote - 13 November 2021
Having worked for the people centric, family-feel SSE, it was seismic shift to suddenly be at a company making colleagues redundant almost immediately, cutting budget, forcing me onto a remote contract and making bad decisions out of nowhere. The negativity and constant uncertainty was chaotic and devastating to my mental health. You are not a human at OVO, only an expendable statistic. Profit matters, and nothing else. The worst type of culture - avoid.
Pros
Supportive middle management
Cons
No viable office, no budget, job uncertainty, undervalued

Great Place to Work
Accounts Payable Clerk (Current Employee) - Bristol - 6 November 2021
I've been at OVO for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. In my short time here I have managed to switch departments and am on th way to start studying for a professional qualification. There are loads of opportunities for progression and the executives at OVO are real down to earth people, not 'scary' bosses you can't approach. There is flexibility with hours and the free breakfast too!
Pros
Everything
Cons
None

Poorly managed, low wage and unprofessional
Inbound Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Sheffield - 23 September 2021
The pay is atrocious and they mess around with your pay. I still haven't been paid for over 2 weeks of work! The manager was always grumpy and very uncomfortable to be around and the hours and workload isn't worth the wage
Cons
Didn't get paid

Dinosaurs in disguise of a Tesla
Liaison Officer (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 10 August 2021
You'll notice the 5 stars reviews left by the real ovo staff and all negative comments and 1 star ratings from the SSE taken over by ovo staff. This is to be taken into consideration when joining ovo. The work place is full of managers. More of them than needed. Some manage 1 staff member. Alot of staff sit around doing zilch sitting on their laptops available on Skype. Not much to offer apart from taking high wages and keeping the tax man happy. Meetings after meetings to discuss very little. Talk about mental health but leaving everything to last minute causing undue stress. Family life and work life balance is very poor. The business is meant to help poor customers come out of fuel poverty but the customer is considered more of a problem and profit is put first. A very poor business that is run by poor management. Stay away from Ovo.
Pros
Some decent colleagues
Cons
Stress, mental health downhill

Horrible
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 6 August 2021
SSE/OVO are a terrible company to work for very stat based and would rather stats than employees mental health. Had been advised to “man up” after being very emotional due to the stress given by management and customers. Process change very quickly so after getting training on something then the very next week advised to forget. SSE/OVO preach about work family and mental health but this is just a cover up as they don’t care at all even though they pretend they do. There is 0 work life balance unless you are best friends or in relationships with management then you have no chance of achieving a good work life balance.
Pros
Good salary
Cons
Long hours, no support, horrible management, poor work life balance

Refreshing and fun place to work, where ethics and work is valued
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Bristol - 15 September 2020
There's a buzz about the company, from the ethos of what they are achieving, to the decor of the offices ( eg an indoor treehouse and slide as a meeting space, to the inspiring people that work there. Everyone has a part to play and there is a real sense that its the employees that are part of the success. Management is pretty good, and they respect your opinions in an ever changing atmosphere. You have to keep up, and are encouraged to actively contribute. If you do well (and are liked) there is plenty of opportunity for bonuses and career progression, I loved working there! It was interesting dealing with a level of ambiguity in processes, and all the different working systems and platforms that are also changing often. But be prepared for a lack of parking on site meaning a daily hunt for a kerbside parking space with a walk into the city centre.
Pros
Lots of team building, social events, with lots of perks that make it a great work environment. Plus free breakfast and fruit.
Cons
Perks are great, but you wonder if a bigger paycheck would be better for longevity, People need to move on to get ahead financially.

Best company I have ever worked for
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Bristol - 18 July 2020
OVO has been a lovely place to work over the past couple of years and have been really helpful around my maternity leave.
My Managers have been very supportive and if i have had any issues they have been readily resolved through additional training or extra time with them.

Treats you well for a business, but still a business
Customer Service (Current Employee) - Bristol - 23 May 2020
The company does seem to make a sincere effort to treat you as well as they can within the limitations of being a business. But it's still very much a business, and if in a given situation the only sensible business decision is to shaft you, they're quite ready to do that. Although they do seem reasonably good at avoiding that where possible.
