The most useful review selected by IndeedPoor pay and expected too much of especially considering they cannot fill the shift with drivers so everyone else is expected to pick up the slack....

Easy going and varied work
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Dafen, Carmarthenshire - 28 November 2023
Owens had been good to me during my 8 years off and on. Mostly staff are amazing. Always helpful. Sometimes planners are not as good as others but as long as you can tell them, it's not doable, they will usually do something about the route. Communication is key. Owens take on new drivers usually which not many companies do.

Not getting enough hours, due to system outage at the mo What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Recently had time off for bereavement, no issues and they do all they can to help. Work hard for them and they work hard for you. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Clean work new trucks
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Llanelli, Carmarthenshire - 26 October 2023
Can’t fault it, left to get on with your day. Quite flexible with time off when required, and office staff are friendly enough, driver trainers on hand for advice.

Avoid the place
HGV Class 2 Driver (Current Employee) - Cardiff - 9 October 2023
Wait up to 3 hours to be loaded. And then get asked to do all the extra work because they’ve let people go home early. Very portly managed and if you don’t stick up for yaself that you can’t carry hazardous materials they’ll expect you to because it’s “limited quantity”

Shambles
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Bridgend - 3 October 2023
Don't bother working for these, you're just a number and that's made clear from the start. Do as told, work long hours with minimum rest or you're told where the door is
Pros
Pay maybe right sometimes
Cons
Pretty much everything

HGV Driver (Former Employee) - Newport, Newport - 26 September 2023
Good place to work for a new driver. Long hours average pay but a good starting place in my opinion for a new Hgv driver. Fleet of vehicles are ok also

Best part of this company are the fellow drivers unfortunately just 1% are women
Multi Drop Delivery Driver (Current Employee) - Newport - 3 September 2023
I applied for a job in my area, amazon training was great! then you get passed on to owens! hardly any training they just chuck you in to the deep end and try and break you in Yr first 2 days, no support off management only the fellow drivers which were the best part of the job! unrealistic routes, not told you'd have to travel to Newport before and after work without payment, i then continued to pull my hamstring on the job and when I told them I couldn't work the next day they asked me to return my van and no support was given, they made mine and other new colleagues app crash so we would fail the job, they also told me that I'd be working around my local arewa but put me places I've never been before and complained about how I was bad at the route I was given, they told me I'd only have to work 9 hours a day but realistically i was working 12.
Pros
the colleagues
Cons
the van hire at an extortionate rate & filthy

Awful place
Absolute shambles of a place, never pay correct, make you work over the driving hours to get deliveries done. Tell you to log of tracker system so Amazon not aware your working over you daily driving hours. Moan if you take a break that is compulsory when driving all day. Managers rude, intimidated and constantly moan at you never any encouragement just always put downs.

Easy job management shocking
Class 1 driver (Former Employee) - Newport, Newport - 20 June 2023
Not a bad start wages are decent now can have all the hours you want mostly back and forward to London/Essex/Kent planners for tranpers are half sensible. If your based at newport the management is shocking although I had no real dealings with him he can't talk to drivers at all looks down at everyone and to be fair I don't know howbhe got the position.
Pros
Easy work all the hours you could want
Cons
Management is shocking, Sharing a truck, no respect for belongings

What is the best part of working at the company? Leaving. My last week was the best week ever!!! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The management. Shocking. Terrible place to work. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Hateful and disturbing at times. Owens are a rubbish company to work for. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Couldn't wait for 7 o'clock to come quick enough.

Great team to work with.
Delivery Driver (Former Employee) - DBS2 - 21 May 2023
Job is hard graft but pay can be rewarding. The depot was 40 miles from home so the commuting added on to my day. This along with needing to reduce my hours for personal reasons to three days rather than five was an issue when leasing one of their vehicles so I left. My OSM was an absolute legend and I miss my team and the banter loads.

Accurate Check NOT free
Delivery Associate (Current Employee) - Newport - 26 April 2023
YOU pay £48 for your Accurate check. The routes are an hour away from the depot so my goodness, quite a strain on your pocket fuel wise and a stress up until you get paid.
Pros
Out on the open road
Cons
High volume, far away routes, fuel pain.
