Good learning opportunities

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It is a good place for learning.Good opportunity to progress if you are willing to change departments. The work life balance is poor and not much flexibility. The salary is not proportionate with cost of living in Oxford.

No training or clear progress plan for BMS

Training to be a BMS takes too long due to no emphasis on the value of the profession. No assistance from management to get laboratory time due to high workload and lack of trained registered staff. Once registered extremely stressful environment with a very high workload

Great and understanding work place

Lots of benefits to working for the NHS and always opportunity for progression. Generous holiday entitlement which is a bonus. Would recommend as a workplace.

Nhs

Lot of pressure and always short of staff but It is a nice place to learn, develop a vocational job of helping people. Salary is not great but usually you have flexibility a feel supported by your managers.

Pros

vocational job

Cons

stress and workload

Mortuary-worst place to work!

I learnt nothing, you are expected to run round like a ‘Skivvy’ the work is very hard and The Manager is condescending and sarcastic. It’s very pressuring, We were for most of the time working like dogs to keep up with the amount of Deceased coming in from the Hospital and Community. There was nothing enjoyable about this place, the Manager’s attitude sucked regarding being organised… more like havoc! at here is ‘blame culture’ here and a favouritism!

Pros

Really none

Cons

Worked like dogs!

Hard work, rubbish pay

I can't speak for every department coz they are all different but where I work it's always busy and we never have enough staff. Most days I feel stressed and unappreciated. My managers are nice but some colleagues can be lazy and do the bare minimum and get away with it day in and day out.

Not quite the place to go to

A typical day at work: hectic What you learnt: you don't have to be the best in your work to be promoted but to befriend the managers. Being a foriner could be a huge disadvantage.Management: looking after themselves and their friends and treating unfairly anybody else.Work place culture: badly shaped by the management. The hardest part of the job: to experience all of the above. The most enjoyable part of the job: there may not be such a thing.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Everything

Steady job

Low wages. Very other worldly. Old fashion management structure. Friendly people to work with. . . . . .

Collaborative and Supportive

Collaborative and supportive workplace, good opportunities for progression and training, difficult to retain staff due to cost of living, Oxford being extremely expensive to live in

Loved working for this trust

Having the opportunity to do agency and work in a few trusts I can 100% confirm this is one of the best Trusts I have ever worked for. Its not always rosy but management works out what's best for most and that's a good thing. Am sad that I will be leaving due to relocation and not keen to go into any other trust so scared and sad. Loved working for OUH. Trust me its one of the best in comparison to how NHS trusts have become or my department was just brill

Pros

Very welcoming culture, nice people

Cons

Can't think of any

Great opportunities

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a great staff to patient ratio, however still has deficits in staffing levels. That said, training was in abundance and opportunities to develop and further your career are plenty. Working culture is very supportive and collaborative.

Pros

Training opportunities

Cons

Staff Parking - lack thereof

A role that I really enjoyed

This was a temporary position and I would really of liked it to have become permanent but unfortunately it was for maternity cover. The people that I worked with treated me very well, the hours suited me 8.00am - 4.00pm and the salary was good

Pros

The working hours

Cons

Some of the procedures that they used.

Interim clinical operation manager, Radiology

My position required me to be over 3 campuses and 4 radiology departments. I was an interim ops manager for 9 months and my contract was renewed twice.

Pros

Great facility, great learning hospital

Cons

Staffing shortage across the Trust largely due to high cost of housing in Oxford.

Fun workplace

Everyone is friendly and hardworking, management are supporting and extremely understanding. The lunches aren't that long but otherwise a great atmosphere to work in.

Not what I expected.

Day 1 - missing off lists. Day 2 - paperwork for uniform had not been signed. Day 3 - no-one to shadow, so gave up. I have told you all there is to tell.
