Great pay, easy work no job security

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I worked in Tonbridge depot for about 9 months as an agency worker. The job offered great pay for the job that I did and I had a lot of flexibility in combination with my main job. The people I worked with including management were great/all right (well 99% of them as there was one individual who complained about everything). My shift manager was very supportive and the hours I had were perfect as well a the job location. The only thing I could complain about was lack of job security and no possibility to get permanent contract (also the regional management who decided to get rid of staff during busy period despite huge profits are a joke)

Pros

Pay, flexibility, most of coworkers and depot management

Cons

Lack of long term job opportunities

Awful

There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that u would not believe. This company is wrong on so many levels, u get treated awfully!! Certain members of staff are the managers 'favourites' these people do not have to lift a finger at all. The harder u work, the more work will be expected of u. U will be stabbed in the back by all members of senior staff. Horrible place to work, STAY AWAY

Pros

Its a job

Cons

Tough work none rewarding

Worked here for a year. Fast paced environment with unrealistic targets. Money was fair but the work is one of the hardest jobs i have done. Lack of equipment is the biggest issue i had, expected to deliver a van full of 30kg+ parcel every day without any lifting equipment or second pair of hands. Cherry picking is a major issue here as agency workers take what the contracted drivers leave behind, you usually end up with damaged and heaving parcels and the van feels overweight. Also need to invest in there workers more and look after the agency staff better. I was promised a contract all year long and none was ever given. Pay was a major problem and i never did get it resolved, was moved down to the lower rate during the pandemic and due to poor communication between Parcelforce and the agency i spent the entire year working for less money than new starters which goes back to march. Even though i was constantly on there case every week it was never resolved. Also missed a weeks wage during the pandemic and was told i would have to use my holidays until it can be investigated after the pandemic has ended, this is still ongoing and has been so long they no longer have record of my hours for that week and asssumed i had taken the holiday. Company has a poor retention rate within the year i had seen so many people join, leave, rejoin etc. I decided to look for something else as i wasn't willing to work through another Christmas for less pay than everyone else. Coronavirus was a major challenge in this role also and i was subjected to a gang attack on the street. I raised my concern -

Pros

Working on your own

Cons

Long hours, no equipment, very hard to obtain a contract, no care for health and safety of empolyees

Pros

Cons

Treat agency workers with no respect!

Worked my butt off at parcel force but the management teams are absolutely horrendous! They give zero respect to employees and your just another number there. From the second I was working at parcel force Coventry I would work hard at every shift of mine but you won’t even get a single thank you from management. They have 18 year old inexperienced young adults supervising staff which doesn’t help. There are more so called ‘super temps’ (agency supervisors) looking on at group who are working than the workers themselves! Appreciate your staff efforts!

Pros

Zero

Cons

Too many but mainly: 1) Never valued 2) Just those get shifts who supertemps like

Great Salary but shocking management

The salary is superb especially after 12 month you are looking at just under £12 an hour for a unskilled job. The benefits are great to with private healthcare. Unfortunately this is where the positives stop! I worked for them for 10 years and since the company has been privatised it’s drastically gone down hill. Way to much pressure is put on drivers and the management is shambolic. Such a shame

Pros

The salary

Cons

The delivery system forced onto drivers

Parcelforce depot

Other drivers are helpful, but can get stressful with the indecisions that are made to put a route together, however sometimes do not leave depot til quite late in the morning. Generally friendly staff and colleagues to work with.

Horrible!

As an agency worker I had a bad moment and decided to work for this company for a solid period of six months. After six minutes I could not wait to get out of there! The managers were constantly demanding more (but not from 'favoured' staff) and the atmosphere was one of constant fear. Telling them I was unavailable to continue was undoubtedly my best moment there.

Pros

None

Cons

Management, fearful atmosphere

Great place to work

Great place to work - good company. Can be challenging like most organisations but well rewarded. Working in a unionized environment can present a different working environment but it also gives long term stability to the workforce

.Stressful

Management have ZERO people skills, computers are taking over from basic common sense, workload is rediculous, the parcel sizes are also getting out of hand. wages are half decent though

Pros

wages are the only good thing and even then is it worth it

Cons

management have no people skills, computers know better than someone who knows the area

You are just a number with no human rights!

Absolutely ridiculous! Worst company I have worked for ever! You do not have human rights here, you will be discriminated, racism is often showed and you would be expected to work 10-12 hour shifts without having a break to meet their standards! You are only a number to them! Management clearly does not give a D about employees. Most of the times you get enormous amount of deliveries and collections to make, which is not possible, and the reason is that the managers need to clear the depot so they will look good in their manager's eyes. When you come back at the evening you will often wait a lot to unload your collections as they are always understaffed at the warehouse. They will intimidate you if you try to fight for your rights(there is a union, which does not care less when you talk to them and starts to defend the company and not yourself) and you will become their target until you get overstressed and have no option but to leave. New, agency and spare drivers will often be compared to employees who work on the same route for years. They will expect you to make even more deliveries than them! They will send you to cover a few areas on a daily basis instead of doing one area and will give you the same amount of drops that a person will deliver in a local area. Full of discrimination among manager levels. Phrases and stupid jokes like "You are younger than him, you should be delivering more than he does", "He is disabled, you should be able to do more than him", "He has got dodgy knee, you should deliver more than him", "F-word foreigners" are used from management -

Dropped without warning or explanation

I worked for ParcelForce on an agency basis for just under a year, and was then suddenly dropped without explanation or notice. I called repeatedly for 2 weeks, and was just told 'No work today, sorry' Eventually, I managed to speak to a supervisor (by hiding my number when calling), to be told (eventually) that they had been told not to use me any more. He couldn't tell me why, or where the instruction had come from, and I don't know to this day. As far as I am aware, I did nothing to provoke my being dropped, but if I did, nobody had the guts or manners to tell me. The only assumption is that it was a cost cutting exercise, as I was on 'parity pay' with the ParcelForce employees, and the other agency guys are on National Minimum wage. That means I was costing them 3.60 an hour more to employ. Whatever the reason, simply not giving someone no work for 2 weeks when they could be looking for another job is totally unacceptable.
