Easy work but don’t expect to stay clean! Early starts but finish time dictated by driver, all routes are a maximum 11hr day with the exception of some London areas. If you work longer than 11 hours then your hanging your day out to get the overtime rate, if you decide to do this you can expect to take home £2300-2400 month after the probation period though, transport department and management goodVehicles old and most in need of some repair, however there will be new vehicles arriving soon.Overall not bad place to work, your generally your own boss, usual driver moaning but if you just get on with the job then you won’t find yourself out all day and half the night, working like that is self induced and your either an idiot that can’t manage your day properly or just doing it for extra overtime, that’s what makes it a drivers job!. Work is Monday to Friday, bank holidays off at least a week off over Xmas
Good money if you hang your day out
Efficiency is not rewarded
Very enjoyable place to work, every day is different to the next /previous, there are negatives but every work place will have them, the workshops could do with a lick of paint and the machines need some TLC but they work!! But, as a whole it is good place to work and the bad press is not fair, if you work hard and put the effort in you will get rewarded, ideas are listened to and people who want to make a difference can.
Ambitious, Fast Paced, Fun, Always Busy, Encourage cross learning
Out of date old school management. I was employed as a Sales Team Leader, a culture of bullying and threats was used by senior management to get Sales Developers to try and achieve sales targets. Targets were achievable, but only by those who had been given corporate accounts to look after.New staff nearly always failed probation due to the lack of support, training and the unfriendly atmosphere. There was a culture of 'stealing' the new guys' sales and customers. Calls not put through to them etc....This is not a good place to work. You are required to a 9 hour day, with one 30 minute break across the whole day. If you are 1 minute late clocking in following your lunch break, you are docked 15 mins. There is no sick pay and you are given the minimum holiday allowance allowed by law. This is an old school set up. You will be under trainined, under paid and under valued.
Bullying old school culture.
I would strongly advise to not apply to work here , the company treats you like rubbish they never pay you the proper wage , half of the people that work here actually don’t do any work you end up doing all the work yourself , management are awful . You just don’t get treated fairly DONT BOTHER TO APPLY
There isn’t any
Not enough pay, management treat you unfairly
The worst company I’ve ever worked for, the pay table is non existent and I was paid 4K less than someone on the same level as myself he had the same level of experience and work the exact same job he was maybe 10 years older ? Does that justify being paid £4,000 more a year than me ? He was even paid more than people who had been there 5-10 even 20 years ! Aweful management and zero care for staff! They put nothing in place for COVID and didn’t seem to care that people had high risk partners saying don’t come in then don’t get paid .
4 on 4 off
Literally everything else
This is a terrible company to work for. Bullying type culture, VERY high staff turnover. If your face fits, which it probably won't, you might survive 6 months, but that is about the timescale. Most of the good people I worked with left. Say it all. I would NEVER recommend this shoddy outfit
Too long a list
Good managment Supply sat nav Worked out routes and drops. Home most days Good money Any problems just ask and its dealt with. Very proffesional Take newly qualified drivers and they help as much as they can. Good company. I would recommend
Lots of work
Never in same lorry.
I wants going to bother writing a review but nearly three months after being told “unsuccessful probation” it still winds me up when I see them advertising. I joined Parker steel at the end of jan as a machine operator on a 4 on 4 off rolling shift pattern day’s and nights .Was told by all direct supervision that I was exceeding expectations. Then out of the blue was let go due to unsuccessful probation which was done via letter . Absolutely disgusting the way they treat staff . DONT DO IT !!!
I’m writing the review to explain the way Parker steel work the advertise the job for 24,000 and when you start it’s 18,000 , they offered me the job in the interview and I thought wow this was easy and then you do an induction on the first day and they make the company seem all health and safety driven but as soon as you start your on your own and it’s a very dangerous place to work.

Parker steel is probably the worst company to work for, it has no incentives, it has no pay structure you don't get treated with respect and you are always in the wrong!! All the management think they are high and mighty and what they say goes you don't even get a chance to put across your ideas!! some of the sales people did what they liked and everyone was treated so different!! you couldn't even leave your desk without someone raising there eyes at you even tho you had sat there for 4 hours straight working!!! only good thing was the people I worked with in sales other than that it was awful!! Toilets were disgusting they always smelt, you got treated like something on the bottom of the toilet bowl that's how bad it was!!! I learnt a lot but only by my own doing, there was never any training and they expected you to get on with the job bearing in mind the system you worked with was from the dark ages!! they make out that parkers is the "best" place to work........please do not fall for this it couldn't be any further from the truth!!!! overall DO NOT APPLY FOR A JOB THERE!!!!! too many old fossils work there and they think you have to work like its still 1950s and treat you like a dog playing fetch!! hope this helps anyone out there!!!!
leaving at the end of the working day
getting up to go there
Disgusting unclean environment...paper round wages...witnessed racism bullying...severe breaches of data protection...as a member of staff you mean absolutely nothing to this out of date out of touch company...until parker learns to appreciate his staff and customers this rotten to the core company will surely fold.
Typical day-Fairly busy What i learned-Do as your told so no come back on yourself Management-what management.(brewery comes to mind) Culture-Blame someone else Hardest part-Turning up not knowing whats going to happen next Most enjoyable part-Was working with your like minded colleagues
The harder you work the more they want no balance to your daily hours expected to do the overtime when suits them low pay for what you have to do expected to do 47 half hours on a low hourly rate not worth doing the overtime my honest view is due to bad route planning done by office staff not an experinced ex driver who knows the routes and late or not delivered items from days before due to drivers running out of time or production late or part orders frustrating customers as they don't receive there orders complete on time this job could have been good if the right people were appointed in the right areas instead you get frustrated tired drivers at the end of the day great workforse hard working guys that keep this all together honestly a BIG NO
