Such a nice place to work. Genuine care for staff and offers free training online and at head office once per year. Such lovely opportunities to add to your cv and best of all it’s just great fun in a lovely and vibrant setting. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
It’s only part time
Working here could and should be amazing. It’s the opportunity to work creatively with children and is structured well. However the company allows for too much inconsistency between academies such as rates of pay, amount of workload at home etc. Which doesn’t help when you meet with other academies. There is no security as seemingly you can be released at any point and any holidays are unpaid. There is no support network from head office for employees which there should be as at present everything goes via a principal. So if you’re having issues with staff or anything else, you’re on your own
No support system, unpaid holidays, no job security
Cut our pay to way below the legal national. Only put it up to minimum when it looked like they were going to be exposed by a national paper. They sacked 3 of their employees via email at 9.30 on a Friday evening. No warning. No care. Just "we don't need you anymore. You are officially without this job as of this second". Do not take a job with these people. They are awful
Working for the Pauline Quirke academy has given me the benefits of a teacher without all of the stress of compulsory education. It has also helped me develop my film and tv skills along with the children being taught and watching them become enthused about this is a real pro of the job. The staff are so fun and friendly to be around and I really enjoy turning up to work each week.
Enthusing children in less accessible skills
That it's only on a Saturday
I enjoy my work with the children and never feel uncomfortable. My colleagues are all very hard working and we always set goals for the day that we achieve.
Being able to work in a friendly environment with fellow staff members and students who all share a passion for the arts is exciting. Being able to work on various performance and production projects with students is great fun and interesting to see their imagination come to life. Also a great opportunity for performing arts students to get industry experience as well as learn from more experienced fellow staff members to enhance own knowledge and ability.
Experience in performing arts industry
Only three hours once a week
Well managed organisation, with staff that really care and are passionate about the well being and development of the students. There was occasional training offered to teaching staff, although this was minimal and there was definitely room for more. This is a franchise company and each location has its own principal, therefore all the schools will have a slightly different environment and curriculum.
PQA is a very rewarding and inspiring company. A great place to work at weekend performing arts Academy providing tuition for children and young people from 4-18 years. Students spend three hours with us, rotating through hour-long sessions in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & Television. Students are split into groups according to their age and are taught by specialist teachers.
