Great camaraderie in the work place

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I had a very enjoyable experience at Pavers shoes the teamwork among staff was very good and the customer faced role was in the main friendly and good humoured. Its a busy bustly shop and it was rewarding to help people find shoes if they had foot health issues. There is a lot of pressure to sell shoe products with a green/red sticker system for all staff to see if you have met their targets set for each week. And customer service to meet and greet and sell is of utmost importanceThe Higher management are a little distant but there is good in training in place and monthly updates about the company's progress as a whole which made you feel part of the business.Overall a nice place to work

Pros

Good camaraderie and fair rate of annual leave

Cons

Pressure to sell products and data capture

Awful

Great customers, nice and bright workplace. Awful management. Expected to know everything without proper training. Last minute rota changes and no praise whatsoever. Avoid

Lovely team and supportive management

I’ve been part of the Pavers family for 7 years and love my job. My staff are really great people and make every shift enjoyable. The customers are lovely and it’s a pleasure to help make what can be a frustrating experience into a happy one. Lots of progression opportunities and treats and rewards for hitting targets.

Management

Great people to work for, have enjoyed my 1st year. Had my mum on end of life just a couple of months into my job, couldn’t wish for more support, everyone was amazing and let me have the time off needed! Made many friends colleagues & customers alike. Love helping customers find the right shoes for them.

Lovely company to work for

There’s always something to do so shifts go very quick and the managers always prioritise their employees, there’s nothing bad to say about working here.

Evolving,with great progress being made

Employed for close to 14 years, lots of changes that have taken time to make an impact but are making a difference.I have a supportive line manager that understands the challenges we sometimes face.I have a good work life balance and genuinely love my job.I am fortunate to have a great team by my side who share my goals and standards of work. The business has grown vastly in size over the years and it is exciting to see what changes will come next

Stressful

Too many targets for various aspects of job and under too much pressure to achieve them, especially shoe care. Managers are also under pressure and so this is passed down.

Bullying, lying, horrible

Minimum wage for minimum appreciationManagement are bullies, they hit their kpi by jumping on til and then shoe care, and not go back on until they see a bag coming and then they will move staff to get that target and then that's it, back office for them!!!!

Do not work here.

Between boring long shifts that drag in, nasty management and hitting unrealistic targets. I’d rather live my worst nightmare than work here - even if you were working a 4 hour shift or 10 the shifts dragged in due to there not being enough customers/tasking throughout the day. Management was very close knit and tended to ignore other members of staff even when they were speaking directly at them. Couldn’t stop and speak to your colleagues without being in trouble. Almost felt more of a dictatorship than a workplace. Since leaving I am much happier and thriving and hope other employees find better jobs and leave that monstrosity

Pros

Nice customers

Cons

Poor pay, poor management, boring shifts, not much to do

Work hard, play hard

Fabulous company to work for. Work hard and play hard. You are recognised for the great job you do. It is like working for family, great communication throughout the business, looking after staff and customers alike.

To be avoided

Absolute horrible place to work, your lucky if they ever get your wage right.Management are vile horrible cretins, who know nothing about what goes on on the warehouse floor and cause nothing but conflict between workers.

Poor management

Always over worked, expected to meet and greet or the mystery shopper scores are bad, supposed to go round every customer at 3minute intervals to make sure their alright, some customers snarl at you as they don't want to be hounded! Expected to hit sales targets and add on extras at the till, it's competitive work force as to who can can hit their targets. Besides being a sales advisor you have to deal with deliveries, online orders, pick them off the shelf, pack them for distribution, get the online orders as soon as they pop up on the till as that's another to meet by the store! Hoover up, clean the toilet, put all the shoes back that customers leave in heaps on the seats or floor, all this and more for minimum wage.. management never have time for support or to train properly..You are expected to be polite to all customers despite the rudeness you have to take off obnoxious people!

Constantly changing shifts

I loved the job to begin with I was made to feel welcome by a great team of hard working ladies who were always happy to help with both customers and staff.Sadly as time went on I learnt that the unachievable sales targets caused friction between staff and the constantly changing layout of the shoes was mind boggling and unnecessary. There was pressure to work overtime at very short notice, your shifts and days off were changed last minute without being consulted. Sometimes you weren’t given your shifts until the week before making it hard to plan your home life. There seemed to be different rules for the longer serving staff to the newer members especially with booking time off.Not only were you back room staff booking in large deliveries in a small space packing and unpacking answering the phone picking shoes off the shop floor to go out as online orders you had to greet everyone as they walked through the door then check on them constantly while managing the till and upwelling crazy amounts of shoe care that the manager constantly pushed and replenishing stock. You were also the cleaners and were expected to sweep and vacuum and clean the kitchen and toilet all on almost minimum wage! A lot of the days you were alone on the shop floor trying to manage this and the customers which there were coach loads of. Very rarely had a weekend off or a bank holiday. The only day you’re guaranteed to get off is Christmas Day as it’s the only day Pavers stores close. Family friendly values hmmmmm….

Pros

Lovely hard working staff unappreciated

Cons

See above too many

Avoid

Avoid the company the top management would rather hire a new manager instead of promoting others. They never pay staff correctly and when they are short staffed they expect you to work extra or longer days 5 mins before your shift

Pros

Free parking

Cons

Everything

Stress and pressure.

Under staffed, over worked, pressure to meet targets, competitive with other work colleagues to meet targets, work load is too much, customers can be challenging and insulting, so many different rules in the store for merchandise that constantly change, no support from higher up. Always told how many billion Pavers have made but yet they don't invest in more staff to ease the pressure in busy stores and to give better customer service. Etc etc.

Pros

Non

Cons

No breaks unless you work 6hrs then the time is deducted from your pay.
