great job at first but became increasingly tiring and struggled to get the support staff in to be able to manage effectively which became a burden in the end

Lovely job poor pay

Enjoyed my time here. Was excellent and they seemed to care about the staff. Just a shame that the pay was so poor. Also the days could be very long and tiring

Not a good company to work for

Worked for this company for over 10 years, over Worked, stressed mentally and emotionally drained. Some of the management are ok, other's just expect you to jump through hoops with broom up your backside. The only 3 good things about this company is the customers themselves and seeing them achieve their goals, then the staff who you work with in the service and then the training is fantastic. I left due to personal reasons but got no support at all from my manager. You are just another number. There is no motivation for the staff, the company except you to put that first before your home life.

Pros

The customers

Cons

Long hours

Not the best

Worked at pia for 2yrs I have met some lovely people and my manager was somewhat supportive, but management isn’t great they make you feel guilty if you say no to doing an extra shift, your over worked because they can’t find the staff to help out. Also staff members that mistreat clients get moved service instead of get fired

The staff are very welcoming and a fun workplace

They have a supportive management team. The staff are welcoming and very friendly. There are enough shifts and the work is not stressful. It is an interesting place to

Better in the past

a typical day at work: understaffed. What i learnt: expect nothing to run smoothly. Managment: some ok, others nasty and bullying. Workplace culture: none. The hardest part of the job: co-workers who are incompetent and try to blame others for there incompetency. The most enjoyable part of the job: The custombers, the ones your supporting. They deceive much better service which most staff try to give, but you feel like your fighting again walls and tides all the time.

awful management

dBs somehow took 2 months and, having already left my last job, people In action waited until the end of the First week training (After the 2 month wait) before forcing me to sign a document stating that I will pay for mandatory training if I leave within a year, without actually stating the cost. they continually move staff to other services even if they are already on shift. we were constantly forced to use personal vehicles for work, despite complaining that few of us had business insurance. overall, the management don't value hard work or compassion, you're. just a number to them.

Amazing place to work

Loved every second of this job when I worked there. It has been awhile since I was there but the place was fun, organised. New exactly what they wanted from a business. Everyone was so friendly from clients to colleagues. Everyone had a roll and everyone was important. Such a rewarding job for a great company

Pros

Everyday is different. People are great. Lovely place.

Cons

Long hours

Bad management

Horrific management in part. Would highly recommend not working here. Not worth the trouble. Totally unsympathetic management, hard to believe certain people there are trained in mental health advocacy.

A worthwhile venture

This is one of the best jobs I've ever done. I think it's fair to say that no job in care is ever totally free from politics and cliques. That's almost a given in this job, But People in Action were far more supportive of their workers than any other care company I've worked for. The work can be demanding. and some of the customers challenging, but management were flexible and reasonable, and fitted the best workers to the best clients. If there was a problem, I found them flexible and reasonable. I also met some special people here, whom I will never forget. Care work is not for the fainthearted, but the rewards are certainly there too. Under fair management I was given the chance to thrive.

Pros

Positive working atmosphere - that means a lot in this day and age!

Cons

Some clients are very challenging

The job in general

I have worked for people in action for a number of years and they give you the opportunity to progress if you feel you can. I loved being an assistant manager at the start as there was so much to learn and it's quite interesting but you are expected to know what your doing straight away and left to your own devices quite a lot.

Pros

Good compnay for a support worker

Cons

Not a lot of training for becoming an assistant manager

I am sorry to see you have given us such a low rating on your review. As you will be aware, People in Action have a very in depth training program and qualifications that need to obtained to complete any role is offered. Should you have felt you were not receiving the correct support you could have approached your Line Manager or the HR department to seek further advice and support. The role of Assistant Manager is very fast paced and any feedback in regards to further training and support is very welcomed.

Please read below

You are expected to begin work at 8am or 7.30am on a morning shift to finish at 3pm. And the afternoon shifts starts at 3pm till 10pm. What you have to do varies depending on the clients you will be looking after for that shift.

Pros

Flexible shifts. 5 weeks annual leave.

Cons

Rubbish pay

I am sorry to see you have given us a low rating on your review. People in Action support vulnerable adults, therefore our shift patterns have to start so early and finish so late to meet the needs of the customers we support. We do offer varied shift patterns and everyone receives their rota a month in advance. Unfortunately in relation to pay, we rely on Council funding, therefore our rates reflect what we receive.

Do NOT apply !!

Milverton terrace doesn’t have a good working environment, it’s very toxic and staffs weren’t supportive. They liked to create conflicts everyday , there’s no team work there and the managers are also not professionals . there is a lot of gossip and little work there. I suffered discrimination and I didn't feel part of the team .

Cons

Toxic environment

Aweful

Thank goodness there are better places and people to work for. I have never seen a company go down so far, so quickly. Shocking, and sad. As other people who left have said, “Do yourself a favour and find somewhere better”.

Very toxic atmosphere

Not very welcoming place to work. I had problem areas in my induction that impacted on my probation. Given more time and support i could have adapted. It almost felt I was set up to fail. The assistant manager was very discriminatory and disablist colleagues were not supportive on the whole. Even in the early stages I never felt welcomed as part of the team. I addressed my own health issues but there was no adjustment or understanding of my needs as a disabled person.

Really Happy

I’m really happy working for People in Action. I work as a Support Worker and the role is really rewarding. I get on great with the service users and every day is fun. My Manager looks after me and I had fab training throughout my career.

I love my job

I have worked for the organisation for almost 7 years and have loved every minute. I have learnt so much within my role and fully appreciate the hard work and dedication put in by everyone who works at People in Action. Everyday is different and I truly enjoy working with people.

Very very poor company to work for. Apply at your own risk. Management absolutely awful no support offered only interested in covering shifts and over

I worked in a large house in leamington with 8-9 customers. In my time there almost 2 years they had a change of Manager 3 times, suspended staff for no good reasons, transferred staff without any good reason or support. There was no opportunity for promotion or to better themselves with nvq 5. The company gave no support to staff minimal team meetings and supervision with staff. Constant

Apply at own risk!

If you want a job where you are working ridiculously long hours with no breaks (e.g shifts lasting longer than 24 hours), management that don't listen or take on board any concerns or health and safety issues and fails to update risk assessments to ensure both yours and the customers safety with poor pay and poor shift pattern... then this is the job for you! The managers do not accommodate employees needs or show any compassion towards their wellbeing. There is no emphasis on creating a happy workplace, rather staff are just seen as a commodity rather than humans. Lastly, there is no opportunities for progression and there is no support for additional training. Work for PIA at your own peril.
