Assembly Operator (Current Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 7 September 2023
Your experience at Perkins will depend on what track you are working at, some areas are better than others. Some areas are terrible but the one I am on currently is not too bad. Break every 2 hours, not bad shift hours.

Monotonous, painfully boring & untaxing
Production Operative (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 10 August 2023
Typical day would be to stand in the same spot, doing the same thing over & over. Management treat workforce as worthless, work force so unhappy & looking for different work.
Pros
None
Cons
Too many

Not a bad place
Assembly Operative (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 8 August 2023
I worked there for nearly a year, on the whole it's a ok place to work but it's the way they treat you if you make a mistake which is the problem, in my example I made according to them 3 very minor mistakes. 2 of them I said they need to investigate further as I'm pretty sure I didn't do it, but as usual they are too lazy to do anything and just say you are logged on, you must of done it. You can do tens of thousands of engines correctly at that place, but their blame culture will only ever remember you for the ones you make mistakes on. They also seem to treat their own staff differently to the agency ones to alot of agency staffs annoyance, if your their staff they will forgive a lot of stuff like mistakes, having time off, defects but if it's agency then these things are the end of the world, another thing is if they need to get rid of people they will always choose agency, even if their own staff are the worst workers in the world and agency are better and know more stuff, they will always get rid of agency They really need to change up how they treat people
Pros
Pay is reasonable
Cons
Huge blame culture

Easy work, very poor management
Assembly Operative (Current Employee) - Peterborough - 6 August 2023
Not a bad place to work, good hours means a good work-life balance, however management is very poor and communication is even worse. Agency workers often released with little to no warning and workers in general treated quite poorly. You will also only progress if your face fits unfortunately
Pros
Good hours, decent wage
Cons
Management, treatment

Mixed
Apprentice (Current Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 28 July 2023
Perkins has its ups and downs. Not much support from placements. I mostly learned from working with certain people who felt bad for me. The college is also not very good.

VVankers
Assembly Operator (Former Employee) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire - 20 July 2023
incompetent management, dodgy zero hour contract, false-optimistic trainers, lazy maintenance that lead to mid shift track breakdowns, "diveristy" nonsense, impractical 2 week rotation that affects mental health yet blame the worker for the lateness when turning up to work.

Good Progression
Engineer (Former Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 19 July 2023
Good opportunities for career progression. Interesting work but can get bogged down in red tape. Helpful colleagues and good culture. Overall a good place to work.

Perkins is not the same as it was before
Team Lead (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 22 June 2023
The attitude of the people that worked there for longtime is nasty and disgusting! they are selfish and rude. Managers let them get away with lots of things. New people in and out all the times and I don’t blame them. It’s shame that this company is going downhill with pay and culture. Mess and pressure and nothing else unfortunately.
Pros
Monday to Friday
Cons
Attitude of people been there longtime

Hard work, good people but useless management
Assembly Operator (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 5 May 2023
I worked here until recently, some management are brilliant however my advice would be to avoid track 5 as you will not be treated like a human being, management will lie to you and neglect your wellbeing. They record issues with workers without informing workers.
Pros
Shift premium and bonus
Cons
Repetitive, little choice of shift pattern, no support from management

Good experience, no permanent
Import/Export Clerk (Former Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 2 May 2023
Good place to work but no chance of getting permanent contract.just get there for experience and leave for something better. Most jobs are advertised but they have already decided who gets the position.

Easy work but terrible agency
Assembly Operator (Former Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 13 April 2023
Easy work, very good health and safety. Set breaks. Every 2-3hrs. Terrible agency staff, they dont care what circumstances you have they will just cut you off no matter what. Like when i had a motorbike accident and i was off for 1week and come back for 1week then they decided to terminate my employment before Christmas shutdown (2weeks). Because I did not inform them every day i was off.

Don’t care about people at all
Forklift Driver Counterbalance (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 5 April 2023
The worst place I ever worked, no manager or te am leader to report anything you are there by your own , have to to do jobs that is not in your duty just to cover the people missing as they not employee people
Pros
Many tasks working like 3 people

Good workplace
Forklift Driver (Current Employee) - Peterborough - 28 January 2023
A typical work start picking engine and loaded to lorry, some time very busy. Management fine with me, work culture fine. Hardest part of job waking up to start 6am.

I would only recommend if you are really stuck!
Assembly operative level 2A (Former Employee) - Peterborough, Cambridgeshire - 6 December 2022
It's quite a boring repetitive job standing on work stations doing the same thing over and over. They will try to paint it out like it's something much more exciting than what it is which it isn't. They regularly sack off large numbers of staff, there was once almost a riot there as they put the entire team from track 4 in the canteen and they sacked 22 people in one go! After this incident they stopped doing this you would just get pulled off the track unexpectedly taken to the office sacked over and it scorted off the site by security, this is what happened to myself after 2 years. Sacked on the spot with no notice - apparently I was parking in the wrong car park.
Pros
Sunday over time is paid as double time
Cons
Job security, 0 hour contract only so they can sack you at anytime - low base rate pay

Productive and fun place to work
Assembly Operator (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 1 October 2022
Clean and safe place to work. Mix of nationalities . Interesting job. New things to learn. Management should be change in some teams. Some of them don't know how to talk to people.
