About Pets at Home
News & Updates
17 June 2022
We're delighted to share that we've donated more than £5m to charities helping pets and the people who love them in the year to March 2022. Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of customers and colleagues, we've donated more than ever before through awards to over 750 organisations, ranging from some of the largest national animal charities through to small, local rescue centres.
Our values and behaviours are really what make us different as a retailer - and an enjoyable, exciting place to work. Everyone here brings the values to work, every day. Our behaviours are the way we do it. If you share our values and behaviours, you won’t just fit in here, you’ll love every minute. We put pets first - pets are our business and our passion! We invest heavily in colleague training and adhere to higher welfare standards to ensure the pets in our care are properly looked after. We make it fun - we want to make sure that all our colleagues enjoy coming into work, and our teams are excellent at creating a fun, friendly workplace for everybody. With such a varied workload across each of our businesses, no day is ever the same! We work as a team - we all work together to ensure that our customers have a fantastic shopping experience in our stores and our clients experience a professional and friendly service in our vet practices and grooming salons. We take pride in what we do - we put our success as a company down to the hard work of our colleagues, and we take great pride in being part of a business that serves our communities so well. One of our proudest achievements is that we were voted the Sunday Times’ Best Big Company to Work For in 2013 by our colleagues - and as the company grows, it’s great to see such dedicated teams taking pride in every aspect of the business! We get better everyday - our Group has grown at a phenomenal rate over the last few years, as we’ve opened new stores, grooming salons and vet practices. Our colleagues are always learning too, developing their pet and product knowledge by taking advantage of the fantastic learning and development opportunities that are available to them. We constantly review how we’re doing and strive to get better every day. We do what we say we'll do - across the Group, our colleagues are dedicated to providing a great service, and that means we’re always honest about what we can achieve - whether it’s ordering a new product for a customer or planning a course of treatment for a pet. We’re also honest with each other as colleagues and hold each other to account which makes for a great place to work that’s open and transparent.
Diversity Programs & Initiatives
At Pets at Home our vision is to be a place where everyone feels valued and respected for the perspectives and experiences they bring. We care deeply about diversity and inclusion. Because the diversity of our colleagues and an all inclusive culture are critical as a key building block of our ambition to be the best pet care business in the world and help us achieve the commitments of Our Better World Pledge. To help us achieve our ambition we have set up a diversity and inclusion leadership forum, which defines, monitors and evaluates the actions that we take as a business to strengthen our approach to diversity and inclusion.
Working in our Stores
The people make the place - working at Pets at Home is fun. It’s also professional and expert, inspiring and supportive, respectful and brave – we need to be when there are many more opportunities to realise every day. Joining our in-store team, you’ll be free to put pets first and achieve our business aims. That means setting or meeting objectives and KPIs – depending on which role you join us in – by delivering exceptional customer service. Our customers expect that you’ll approach and make them feel welcome, listen to their needs, offer great solutions and thank them for their visit. If you can do all of that, meeting our exceptional retail standards along the way, you’ll find lots of opportunities – and all the support you need – to grow your skills and work your way around the store or up the ladder. Lots of our people already have.
The Groom Room
Working in the Groom Room
You’ll find our Groom Rooms in Pets at Home stores and stand alone salons across the UK. Right now, there are more than 300 with plans to open more. Here, people who love pets provide a top-quality grooming service and while they all bring their personality to work, each dedicated groomer shares a passion for their skill and a commitment to taking grooming to the next level. They also go out of their way to provide exceptional customer service, from a welcome that’s warm, through listening and offering solutions, to giving a sincere thank you and farewell. Working here is always fun and we go a long way to make sure our teams feel engaged and are appreciated as members of our Pets at Home family. You’ll also find lots of opportunities to build on your skills and knowledge. On-going learning and development is tailored to your role and career goals, including City & Guilds Level 3 introductory qualification for Salon Managers. If you share our passion for pets, we’ll give you all the encouragement and support that you need to get better every day.
Our Handforth Support Office
Working in our Support Office
You’ll find our Support Office just 10 miles from Manchester city centre. Here, we support our nationwide operations. It’s a big job that just continues to grow. So we make sure our people, in every department, are supported to grow too. Our people are the key ingredient to our success, so we’re dedicated to ensuring that Pets at Home is a truly great place to build a career. Because we also believe that coming to work should be fun, we work hard to create an environment that people love to work in, that they are engaged at every level, their hard work is recognised and rewarded, and that they feel like part of the extended family. We encourage ambition and success, and we’ll provide you with all the encouragement and support that you need to develop a rewarding, long-term career with us.
Our Distribution Centres
Working in our Distribution Centres
We’re not just another retailer. So this is not just another distribution centre. Where pets come first, we also look after our customers and our people, ensuring everyone enjoys a good experience with Pets at Home. But don’t take our word for it. We were voted 5th in the Great Place to Work UK Best Workplaces Large Category 2018 and we were put there by our people who like how much fun it is work here, how much opportunity there is for personal growth and how we all like to give something back. Everyone here lives and breathes the company values, bringing them to work every day to deliver for our customers. And the teams at our distribution centres play a vital role in that by ensuring our stores are stocked with exactly what they need, when they need it. Along the way, they get to enjoy all the training and development they need to succeed. Plus a comfortable, dynamic working environment that also has computer workspaces, communication zones and our own canteen.
