If you like working in the cold this is for you! Getting very wet and having to stay in wet clothes all day sign up! They think they are selling something precious so you have to be out on the store front even if there is nothing to do. You have nowhere to go to the toilet. No refreshments and let on your own for a lot of the time - is this not a requirement of employment law? Understaffed during busy times. You will have so many customers it just becomes hectic - weekends are crazy. You’ll then be bored senseless as they stay open in the evening to 10pm sometimes. The staff is rife with nepotism - mates and girlfriends get the better jobs of managers and area managers despite having no previous experience.
I was a manager for one of the pines and needles stores last year so my review comes from a management position.
A good place to work, but you will be working hard.
The stores exist for less than two months of the year and the pressure is on to make as many sales as possible in this short time frame.
This may sound daunting but you're selling the one product everyone wants at that time of year and those sales come easy. Your job is to be as happy and as helpful as possible, we're here to make Christmas happen and want customers to have a great experience whilst shopping for their tree.
The weekends are the busy times, with the majority of customers coming through at that time, expect to be selling trees non stop in those times, the week day shifts are a little more relaxed but tend to be covered by just the managers. The trees sold vary in size from just 1ft tall all the way to 12ft with the majority being sold in the 6-8ft size.these trees can be very heavy when they are wet so its not light work.
you'll be given contacts for restocking teams, technical support teams, electricians, area managers, administration support etc, So everything you need to support you is on hand.
Do not work here... They just use you over the festive season. It's literally slave labour then they get rid of you. The pay definitely doesnt meet the work, so if you like to suffer this is the place
Working there was a great personal experience, there is always something extra to do, so is perfect for people who want to work extra hours. The management team is very kind and helpful
pines and needles is a good place to work
every one works together to get any task done (even the directors)
we grew and sold christmastrees and was a fun and joyful place to work i done things i thought i never will do and got to stay in the lyle estates college park in Scotland as we harvest the trees but it got hard at the end of the year and had to do 15 hours shifts at time even sleep in the office at time but all was worth it at the end
Pros
company car
Cons
had to stay in scotland
Working in an industry focused on Christmas is equally challenging and rewarding. The impressing thing about Pines and Needles is even though for the last five years I have not been able to enjoy the run up the Christmas I have not felt like I have missed out as the team essentially become your extended family for a couple months.
Pros
Flexible holidays during summer
Cons
Don't have much time to enjoy the general run up to Christmas
We want to help you find great companies. Help us be the best!
