mcvities was a big employer until the change there shift rota to 12 hour shifts where I week you worked 5 twelve hour shift and the next week you work 2 12 hour shift and then the company would surprize you with a flex up date and not pay you till the following feburary
crazy shift pattern where you work every 2nd weekend fri/sat/sun if you are not flexed up if you are flexed up (not often) you can end up working 3 fridays in a row,job very draining/ training near enough non existent job is packing product into boxes at high speed the machines very ancient and constant jamming up of lines very frustrating, nobody seems to want to improve anything at all shocking amounts of waste you would need to see to believe, some line leaders attitude to staff is very poor to say the least morale is extremely poor at glasgow site nothing changes for the better 12 hr shifts are long and tiresome, pay is reasonable compared to some companies depends on your role in factory recently told waste not sustainable but without a lot of investment this is not going to improve any time soon.
co workers depends on your plant
flex up agreement/long shifts/morale poor
unorganised , outdated , long hours not a very nice place to work ..... loads of monotonous jobs , no canteen , unsociable hours , every one seems unhappy , most enjoyable part of the job is finishing time
no work/life balance
weekend work when food production had finished usually (mon-fri ) saterday and sunday general cleaning of warehouse I mostly used the scissor lift and cleaned all high pipes and overhead machinery
easy job just left mostly by yourself 2 get on with the work
only weekend work was available at the the time would have liked to worked there full time

Is Indeed your favorite place to learn about companies?
Worked here for 16 years but in those years, management only looked after themselves.jobs not given on merit but solely if you got on well with a manager.management seriously need to rethink things about themselves or the factory will close
Too much expected of you
Not the most challenging or rewarding of jobs. I have gained some good experience through this role.
I have enjoyed my time at McVities and met lots of great people and gained some valuable experience of working in a fast paced busy environment. Its not the most stable of jobs at the moment and with restructuring and changes currently being negotiated regarding shifts and hours i feel it is best to actively seek a new challenge.
Job security not great at pesent
i worked on a fast and productive factory with labeling packing and processing raw biscuits. i worked with a lot of exiting people and helped the management team whenever called upon the best part of the job was the family fell and working towards perfection
It's a great company to work for ! A typical day in work is packing biscuits & operating the machines & work with amazing people. I learned that you have a great team by your side & I gained alot of knowledge about the products & how it affects worldwide as a company, as biscuits made here go overseas. I work with amazing co-wokers, they are folks there that have been there for over 30 years !! they are such a great bunch to work with. The hardest part about the job is being on top of the game on you !!, as the company is trusting you to get the biscuits to the best outcome & get the orders sent out in time, waste is an issue they don't want to have, as they waste money so doing your job right is important as you need to get everything to the best ability for customers to buy these products. The most enjoyable part of the job is the colleagues I work with, as long you have a team that works together, it gets the job done right & everyone is a great mood to have a laugh with.
We get cheap biscuits of course !! :D
Great hours, Great hourly rate too, Paid weekly.
It depends on what part of the factory you worked at, but for me I really enjoyed the palletisation part of the warehouse were you pack the boxed biscuits onto wooden pallets and take stock of how many go through the wrap machine ready for delivery all over the world. I learned to work in a fast paced environment and how quickly I can adapt to different jobs on any giving day. Many of the management were very strict and had to be in this line of work as there is no room for error when you are dealing with heavy machinery in a fast paced environment such as this. Many of my co-workers I already knew before working in Mcvities but I made many more and we regularly played a 7-a-side match every week even after I finished working there. the hardest part of the job was standing doing the same repetitive movement for hours hurting the bottom of your back at times. the most enjoyable part was the people you worked with and the camaraderie you got with people you worked beside.
Discount in the private shop from some of the biscuits and shop brands.
Sore back and feet from standing in the same place for long periods of time.
