People versus plants

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
On the plus side I loved working with the plants and some of the locations I went to were stunning. I also learnt a lot and it was a joy to work on such beautiful displays. However there seemed to be a lot of conflict between the expectations and organisation of the management, sales and design departments. This fed down to the people on the ground and was ultimately felt most by newer members of the team. Also, while most of the people I worked with were lovely, I was warned about and then witnessed regular scapegoating and favouritism by one or two members of staff. While obviously known about it appears to go unchecked within the company which was disappointing.

Great team and fun working environment

Really nice company to work for, people are very friendly and the work is well split during the working hours so is definitely not a stressful environment, really fun.

Pros

Great team, Get to see a lot of central London, Get to keep some of the plants that won’t be used anymore for the displays

Cons

If you are a loving plant person sometimes is really sad seing them go to the bin after used

Some nice people, some not so nice

My time at plant designs was very mixed. The younger, lower paid staff members are generally 10/10 lovely people, however managers and directors can lack empathy and understanding when there’s a problem, which can cause the already solitary job to feel even lonelier.Be aware that start times feel almost entirely up to management rather than respecting your contract (can be made to start work at 5:30/6am for no reason other than horticultural/general managers deeming it more professional to scurry around like quiet mice before office staff arrive - which is not the case at all in reality)Job does begin to feel lonely and demoralising after the initial enjoyment of caring for plants. The joy of caring for plants also diminishes when number of offices to visit per day increases or is underestimated by those not carrying out the jobs. Can end up with far too many jobs on some days whereas some members of staff in the same role will be doing 2 hour working days. Doesn’t make a great deal of sense. Also warehouse is in an awful location if you ever need to go.

Pros

Get to see lots of London

Cons

Unfair treatment throughout the roles, despite lower paid being generally wonderful people and management not so much

Should be a nice place to work but isn't

Confused and internally toxic management team.Design and sales team don't really seem to care for the maintenance person's job (poorly selected plants for the areas and very far water points from the displays), they are more interested in the initial aesthetic and then drop it on the maintenance team - seemingly encouraged by the director and general manager.- Sales > quality of work.

Pros

Working with plants can be enjoyable

Cons

Poorly designed displays for maintenance and poor management
