Awesome job!
Hard work, hard work, hard work! It all pays off though when you complete your final exam and pass out. The job is stressful and tiresome but worth it.

Appalling
The job advertises itself to be part of Investors in People scheme. It is anything other than this. It promotes a work/ life balance, again which is nonsense as it’s a fight to get to that point. It makes it own rules and if you don’t follow them you are punished. Don’t join up, look elsewhere. The salary isn’t worth it

More criminals in the job than there are in the cells
Where do you start to review an organisation as deeply and irreversibly flawed as Police Scotland? I will do my best (spoiler alert - it’s not good). The number of officers, vehicles and equipment has been depleted so badly over the years, that it barely qualifies to be called a “service”. Officers are so disgustingly overworked and under-appreciated by the organisation, that a simple freedom of information request will show you that officers have been leaving the service in huge numbers, and those that remain have accumulated some of the most shocking sickness records that you will find in any organisation. One third of all staff sickness, is due to stress and/or mental health problems, and rather than support experienced officers back to work, the culture is to hound them out of the job (being hounded out of the job is the best thing that can happen to most employees). The overwhelming culture in Police Scotland, is one of institutional bullying, political corruption and cronyism. I met more narcissistic sociopaths, bigots and sexists in the police service, than I ever dealt with among the public. Police Scotland propaganda would have you believe that their priorities are for “child protection”, “tackling serious crime”, and “anti-social behaviour”, however those who have worked in Police Scotland, will tell you honestly that the REAL priorities are “fudging of crime stats”, “advancing ones promotional prospects”, and “deflecting blame”. Criminals tend to dislike the police, however nobody hates the police more than their own staff.

Cons
Too many to mention - just don’t join the police
