The job was pretty easy and got repetitive quite quickly. My colleagues were always so friendly towards each other. It's hard to find people on the shop floor and the assistant manger was always on her phone. I got moaned at for talking when I was just asking for help. I worked hard and that didn't really get agnolished
Managers in Braintree store is the most racist, disgusting and dirty people in the whole town. Won't recommend even to an enemy to work there.they will use you untill you break then get rid of you fast.
Rota is changing every day, you get send home or called in your day off.
Management was terrible... A lot of brown nosing to get better shifts. If you weren't "in with the click" you were put on the graveyard shifts. Seen this in numerous stores (as I covered a few). Long 10 hour shifts being micro-managed. Management and staff turn over very high. Decent pay but no other real benefits to the job. Staff were treated as very replaceable if they were thought to be no good. Customers didnt appreciate you and overall there was no job satisfaction. It was fine for getting retail experience but not the kind of job you would want long term.
Long hours, no job satisfaction, poor management, no real benefits
Very fun place to work out, easy to settle in and you get used to the job and learn the ways about it quite quickly. Very productive, colleagues are very helpful and much teamwork is involved. They make you as a new employee feel part of the team.
Interview was informal, just asked a few questions and filled out some forms. I was offered the job on the spot and they gave me my uniform and start date. I am a novice to retail but was given on the job training. Which was fairly straight forward. Everyone I met, was really friendly, supportive and helpful. You clock on and off your shift via your thumb print on a machine so, no time sheets to fill out and I got paid on time. I am really thankful, I was given this opportunity and have the utmost respect for all people, who work standing up all day. As it isn't easy on the old ankles, legs or back.
Friendly, supportive, helpful, good working environment
If unfit and a little older, can be hard going on ankles, knees and back
Management were alright, customers were terrible, colleagues would back stand you for hours, hours would get cut because of malicious gossip and jealousy, job security is ok, minimum contract 12 hours, minimum salary is as low as you get and ur not human, employment benefit almost non existent only good for part time and don’t expect much maybe if ur like a college student or someone that will need aid from government -and low income support
Flexible working hours
Bad customers, bad co workers, sometimes bad management
Very understanding and no problems if you can’t work long ours with being a single parent no problems. Management very friendly and listen to any problems you may have
They didn’t care less about drivers you could go in on the morning thinking you had a decent day course they told you if you phoned after 8 pm only to find they swiped you and you had a 15 hour day or night out seemed to have a lot of idiot drivers there who put on brake to unload and drove like idiots but Poundland loved them lots off polish drivers as well who loved long hour’s
Top of the range trucks
Never knowing your hours
Made to work as a supervisor yet didn't get the proper training did a much better job than the actual supervisors got told of for talking yet the management spent time on their phones and were not on the shop floor. Most of the time I had to help my colleagues cause noone else was around.Felt taken advantage of and trust me hard work here doesn't pay of.
Place is an absolute joke, if you need cash its a job for now yes. But keep your eyes open for a more positive environment too work in and get your cash. I turned up on interview day and was rushed through onto a llop truck for refresher and straight into work. 12 hr shifts on minimum wage on 1 break 45 mins half way through. There's plenty other places even if you desperate. Resigned 1st December still no p45 or holiday pay recieved.
Few decent staff. Thats it!!!
Pay, Hours, Job, Pick Rates, Management
Bad company that uses their exploits carefully. Unfortunately the employees at the bottom are the ones treated the worst. They expect miracles and when you raise issues regarding workload and workplace bullying, you get fobbed off with excuses to why they cannot deal with the issues raised. If you just happen to be friends with management.. you can basically get away with murder! Avoid unless you’re a cliché and like a groundhog workplace with bullying and bad pay.
I came pretty close to enjoying working at poundland but they make it difficult. The pick rate is very unrealistic especially considering how low you are paid. Also forced to listen to the radio which plays the same chart songs over and over which turns into a form of torture and no earphones are allowed.Broken cages constantly put back in cage area which becomes incredibly frustrating. Some of the managers were very friendly and helpful people who seemed to care about their staff while others were rude and quite clearly on a power trip. Other employees a real mix of lovely friendly people and blatantly rude people. Overall I didn't hate the job however after being asked to train a new recruit that ran my foot over I was asked to take a drugs test even though accident wasn't my fault. This led to me having to leave the job which was a great shame. If you like an occasional spliff at the weekend avoid any accident as much as possible!
The people, unrealistic pickrate
