Different Strokes for Different Folks

Clear signs of favoritism. The managers make it clear what can get you immediately terminated, but constantly give passes to their favorite workers. Majority of the workers seem to have never advanced past your basic high school mentality because they constantly pick on new people, people who actually LIKE working at pret, or actually want to do their job, calling them names, giving them the silent treatment, making fun of them behind their back and etc. When you tell management they do NOTHING about it, I even had one manager go and tell the person that I reported them to the manager. I get paid 15.25, but the pay isn't worth the abuse the job gives you. If you choose to take this job, my advice is to be mediocre or stay in the kitchen, you'll encounter less drama that way.

Not a fun, but deluded company

If you are a young person looking for your first job to get some experience and money, join Pret, for a couple of months. If you are not, trust me, you can find something better. Pret doesn’t value their employees whatever they’d want the public to believe. You will be trading your health and self respect for a near minimum wage. There are no raises unless you get a promotion, and there are only two steps from where you start before you hit manager level. So basically you could work for pret 20 years and, theoretically, get a little more than a pound more than someone who started one month ago. They will pressure you to work for free ( start early, not take full breaks), and if you complain about anything, your only option is to leave, they make it that bad for you. If you decide to join Pret, you will meat some nice people, but I have never met anyone who would have regretted leaving the company. So, make your own conclusions.

Pros

Easy to join

Cons

No life work balance, bad pay for what they want from you, upper management despise peasants (their employees), you will learn next to nothing

Not worth the hustle

Pret has gone from a great employer providing good money and benefits such as food on shift and training to treating employees like dogs and doing everything to fight the competition but a cost being employees wellbeing. You're definitely not paid enough for everything they require. They also stopped paying for breaks

Cons

customers, bad management, cutting wages

Stressful and awful workplace

Cliquey management, extremely stressful conditions, the bonuses mean there's a pressure from other staff, and performing less than perfectly results in pressure and unkindness form management down, sick days are punished with warnings

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

Long hours, bad management, bad work environment, etc
