Productive but bad communication levels

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Fast paced environment Management don’t really help too much. Lack of communication. One manager tells you one thing and another manager tells you another.Flexible and can allow shift changesGood for students Be prepared for angry customers need to be patient and don’t take things that customers say personally unless it is constructiveIf you can work in primark with the busy queues you can work in any retail fashion shopA lot of overtime available

Pros

Flexible and good for students

Cons

Lack of communication and lack of help from managers

If you really need job don’t stop looking. There is not so good like they promise.

If you FLT driver don’t think you will drive all the time. If you don’t hit you daily target, next day you will punished and send on different departments. And take out £1 salary from FLT. It’s huge place and many time it’s not possible do target. Most of managers don’t have competition and push you to do more. For reasons why they push give answer: ,,they push me from above” Salary it’s low and you spend a lot money for fuels on you travel there. Big company but don’t care about people you just number. You do extra jobs multiple skills and they don’t give you nothing…ooo sorry you get free vouchers for food but you must be favourite person. What don’t give question.

Pros

Some people can be nice an helpful

Soul destroying

Soul destroying boring and would rather workers walk out then have respect and understanding . Highest management are rude , never say hello and think they run an army expecting silence and misery . No discount except from 10% a few weeks a year

Pros

Weekdays or weekends

Cons

Rude management

Not the best but not the worst

Typical retail environment except no one respects the establishment as they would in other stores,Tidying clothes most of the day (which customers will mess up at the same time)Dealing with customers some downright rudeTills (people with huge baskets filled to the brim a lot of the time)Put stock out (if you can find it in the stock room)Be wary of gossip on the shop floor & favouritism

Pros

Job security, solid schedule

Cons

repetitive, uniform unflattering

Fast paced + unpredictable

Over the last year of working here, I have experienced a lot of ups and downs. I have had a lot of issues with the supervisors. When I first started, I was invisible to the supervisor on my department and was missed off the router continuously. They definitely do have their favourites but the ground floor supervisors are easy to get along with and are happy to help out. The colleges can be cliquey with the people on their floor. They can come off rude at times if you don’t know/aren’t close with them. However there are some really nice colleges which do make the shift easier. The pay is good and the hours you can work are good also. Overtime is always available for people who want it at large quantities. Weekends are often the busiest (especially during Christmas) which can make the shifts a lot more stressful as customers are often unwilling to corporate with you trying to do your job I would definitely say primark is a good place to work, however, as all jobs there are always downsides.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Supervisors + cliques

ok if you're needing money

The managment are the worst part of this job, however the other staff and the cleaners are lovely people and the only reason I've stayed. The usual work day varies however the main similarities between the different roles is that you are pulled from pillar to post by managment. They are not at all flexible with working hours, the rota stays the exact same week in week out. There's very limited overtime, the vast majority of people who work there are on a part time contract (8-20 hours a week) so making up you wage to a decent amount is hard. If you need to drop/swap a shift for any reason ( including education eg. university lectures) you will not be allowed to unless you are one of the admin's favourites. Expect to feel burnt out 24/7 with no support.

Pros

Nice staff, Uniform provided, Strict on break times being legal amounts, pension scheme offered (4%)

Cons

Bad management, no flexability, limited opportunity to progress

Awful

Air conditioning never works - have worked at Poole store for years and been a customer since it first opened, and never known a summer where we weren’t sweating through the work shirts, or the temperature was ok in there.Goods lifts constantly break down despite constant checks and repairsAlways short staffed regardless what time of day it isYou’ll end up doing the jobs of 3 staff members.Rude managers who pick their favourites to get promoted regardless of skills, experience and achievements Problems rarely solved

Pros

Decent breaks. Social

Cons

All the above. Plus paid just above minimum wage

Fast paced but repetitive workplace

The work environment is kind of fast paced, time flies by when doing the work, but the work can become quite repetitive or boring even. Not quite the friendly environment, you do your job independently, you kind of have to figure how to do things yourself, not a lot of support from the managers or supervisors. They don't really train you, you're expected to do everything no questions asked. Other than that, its good pay, good flexibility etc...

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Not a friendly environment

Treated like a number

Rubbish place to work unless it’s the only job you can get at the time. Little to no training given before your trial shift, just shoved out onto the shop floor. Managers & supervisors favour certain people and will stand and chat with them. Yet if your caught talking to a colleague for more than 2 mins you get shouted at. You are also given multiple departments to keep tidy even in busy times, with no help or appreciation. They give no understanding or care when it comes to mental health. Even after working there for 3 years, when I handed in my notice I got no reply, just deleted from both group chats like I meant nothing. Don’t bother working at such an uncaring company.

Pros

A few nice colleagues

Cons

Management/uncaring

Good pay, good chance of obertime

Pays over minimum wage regardless of age, even though the hours are part time. Stressful during busy times but overall it's not a difficult job.Different shifts give you chances to do different things, like working in the warehouse or on the cash desk, different floors or departments. I'd like more oppertunity for full time positions.

Pros

Pay over nmw, lots of breaks

Cons

Part time hours

Don't expect competent management

Good company to work for, whether or not that's changed with their new 'ISE' changes or not but don't go in expecting very competent management. The people will become some of your best friends and the work is generally some of the easiest you'll find, unless it's Christmas then it's manic. Derby store has gone downhill over the years. Used to be run very well but nowhere near as good now.

Pros

Discount once per season

Cons

Bad in-store management

Productive fun and energetic place to work

Lovely place to work the managers and people there really care about your well being. Never have I worked in a place where they truly care about you personally. I love working here so much. They are like family. I wouldn’t want to leave but at the same time wouldn't want to work there forever. Primark good place to work especially as a weekend job meet new people each time and gives experience on things to do great place to start especially for fashion lovers

Pros

Staff discount Nice staff friendly environment

Cons

Annoying rude customers who complain and want to return things with no receipt
