Cons outweigh the Pros
Resourcing Advisor (Former Employee) - RAC - 14 September 2023
Working at RAC has been a challenging and often disheartening experience, primarily due to a combination of demanding stakeholders and the uncomfortable work environment. While the company may offer attractive incentives and benefits on the surface, the daily grind here often feels like an uphill battle. Stakeholder Pressures: One of the primary reasons why RAC is a difficult place to work is the relentless pressure exerted by stakeholders. Whether it's shareholders, upper management, or even clients, the unceasing demand for recruitment needs, faster production, and immediate results has created an atmosphere of perpetual stress. Employees find themselves constantly on edge, racing against the clock to meet unrealistic deadlines and targets set by stakeholders who seem detached from the realities of day-to-day operations. This does not help when we are hugely understaffed and money is being spent on unnecessary facilities and departments instead of in house staff and support. This incessant pressure has several detrimental effects on employees' well-being. It leads to burnout, anxiety, and a high turnover rate, as individuals struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The constant scrutiny and expectation of immediate results make for an environment that is more conducive to stress and anxiety than personal and professional growth. Uncomfortable Work Conditions: Another glaring issue at RAC is the uncomfortable work environment. The building itself seems designed to add to the stress of the employees. The workspace is cramped, poorly lit, and the ventilation is inadequate. -
Pros
Hybrid working, on site car park
Cons
Toxic Managers, Stakeholders, Unappealing Building

Don’t accept the offer if you need a Long time job
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Manchester - 2 September 2023
Recruitment staff are incompetent, hired too many people and told the job could terminate anytime they choose. Training is based on 30% of what you actually do in the job. Then you’re thrown on phones and told you have to keep time under 4 minutes. They want you to treat every customer like a robot, even old people who are in distress are left for hours with no help. People called in to cancel their membership every day due to how badly they were treated and were told to just rush them off the phone. Members would phone in crying and managers would laugh at them and tell them to cancel their membership. Lazy managers who never wanted to help, they too just rush staff off the phone with no solutions leaving you to handle upset members. And you’re told everyday to keep a ridiculous kpi but also told they can end the job anytime.
Pros
None
Cons
No breaks between calls and poor work ethic environment

Always Short Staffed
Administrator (Former Employee) - RAC - 27 August 2023
Pros: Friendly colleagues, good benefits, different styles of working and contractual sick pay. Cons: short staffed, pay isn't great most of the low wage workers dependent on bonuses, transparency with pay (competitive salary in job adverts just means you're probably on a different wage to your colleague), need to treatment front line workers better, toxic culture.
Pros
Company Benefits/ Sick Pay
Cons
Stressful/short staffed/ Salary

Awful workplace
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Bristol - 28 July 2023
They hire a lot of people and start selecting their favourite one. You can be doing the great job and they will dismiss you because your face don't fit or you're quite. Received no help when I had difficult calls. Very awful company imagine have a new kid and being motivated to work but they dismiss u because you're face don't fit. Don't get close to this company if people depend on ur financially because they don't care about you!!!!!
Pros
Free coffee
Cons
Bad management. Favouritism

Don’t waste your time or talent in this bureaucratic nightmare
What is the best part of working at the company? Hybrid working and some of the staff What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Too many pointless meetings and everyone getting involved in every project so no actual work done. Poor customer focus all about getting the most profit for private equity owners. Poor management What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Poor work environment cramped tiny rows of desks and smelly dirt toilets. Culture of meetings after pointless meetings and little actual work being done. Takes ages to achieve anything as too many layers of people involved all trying not to actually do any work. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Tedious and dull. Rush to leave at 5

Working there was fine
Renewals Advisor (Former Employee) - Manchester - 19 July 2023
I didn’t have any issue at RAC, I would say that management is fine. Although work life can become a little mundane and the support for new workers not great as I had an injury and work couldn’t put me on a proper payroll only what the government provide as I wasn’t a full 3 months in yet at the time so job security not good whatsoever.

Shake up and start again
Team Manager (Former Employee) - Walsall, West Midlands - 20 June 2023
They need to shake up everyone and start again. It's really poor when the people who are there to support don't support and take no care for the customer only figures from above.

The people
HR Manager (Current Employee) - Bescot - 14 June 2023
The management team are so helpful and approachable. It is fast paced but its the people that help you. The hardest part is understanding the culture of the RAC, but once you learn the culture and how each department works then you won't want to leave.
Pros
Flexibility

Great place to work
Resourcing Advisor (Current Employee) - Walsall - 12 June 2023

Excellent facilities in and around the business including free on-site parking, canteen facility and wellbeing areas. A very people orientated business focused on developing and growing internal talent.
Pros
Free parking, Career Progression, on-site canteen, Colleague Wellbeing programme, Annual perks and benefits
Cons
Stressful, fast paced

Shambles
Special interventions Customer Manager (Former Employee) - Walsall - 19 April 2023
High Stress work, Customer intentionally left at the side of the road for extended periods. Escalations process ineffective. Staff are thrown in at the deep end with minimal briefs or training. Work systems are EXTREMELY dated and slow, the office at Bescot site is cobbled together from old monitors. Some team leaders are trying their best to handle the chaos and my person team leader was fantastic and caring but the work is soul crushing. I left the job to work elsewhere but was offered to comeback in a different department, I accepted to have a video meeting/interview for the new role but the interviewer did not show up, I was left waiting for 50 minutes before I decided to leave the meeting and withdraw my interest. Several friends I made whilst there have left the job and those who who have tried to stay are now off due to mental distress and strain. AVOID RAC at all costs! Its just not worth it.
Pros
A wage and a coffee machine
Cons
impossible to list them all

Ok, but not great…
Patrol (Current Employee) - Midlands - 18 April 2023
I’ll start with the good things: given a van, given tools, 70% of the job is fairly easy and no commute to work. However the job is massively let down by the pay and the fact that management are totally clueless. The basic pay is the same or maybe even less than working in a garage. In a garage you would have easier shifts, more of a social life and a dry & warm workshop to work in rather than the side of a motorway in the rain, so I’m not sure how the pay is so similar. The bosses seem to think that the fact that we can do overtime some how makes up for the average pay we get? The only way to earn good money is to take on overtime, working weekends, holidays, etc. The office seem to be more reluctant to give it out now because they don’t want to spend the money but are happy to leave members sleeping in their cars overnight and provide poor service all round. My advise would be only take the job as a patrol if you don’t mind having a very limited social life and you might as well join the AA because they pay better…..
Pros
Given van & tools, no commute to work, a large percentage of the jobs you will take on are straight forward.
Cons
Poor basic pay, long & unsociable hours, dangerous job, management are clueless

Good place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Walsall - 15 April 2023
The managers are very supportive and wants you to learnt every step of the process. The job is not that hard all you have to do is don't take it personal to angry customers. I would recommend working for RAC.
Pros
There is always a support and training for you
Cons
Very stressful job

Falling Behind in Pay, Toxic Culture
Roadside Technician (Current Employee) - Yorkshire - 6 April 2023
Pay has fallen behind industry standard and only way to make good money is to work very long hours. The money if not worth working late nights, weekends, bank holidays and putting yourself in constant danger at the roadside. The culture is toxic with management having favourites and people who’s “faces fit” being treated with extra benefits and given extra opportunities. Little to No progression is available so it’s very hard to build or progress in a career which makes the job feel like a dead end.
Pros
Own Van, no commuting, tools provided
Cons
Very Long hours to actually earn decent money, toxic culture, no progression
