Good Job but Low Pay
Patrol (Current Employee) - Wales - 20 January 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGood job, basic pay is poor, although if you are willing to do extra hours can earn a lot more. But really need to be mindful, especially if married with children as work/life balance is not great.
Pros
Work starts from home. Sick pay
Cons
Long hours/shifts, work/life balance. Expect a lot for an average wage.

Not bad
Patrol (Current Employee) - Southampton - 9 December 2022
Not a bad place to work if you can do shifts, however there are no patterns to the shift this can make for a poor work life balance. Basic salary is poor considering there is no supplement for being on shift however potential earning are high if you can put the hours in. Poor management structure, floating holiday is hard to get authorised.patrols are treated as a statistic
Pros
Potential earnings
Cons
Work life balance

Terrible
Breakdown Recovery Driver (Current Employee) - Walsall, West Midlands - 29 October 2022
Underpaid undervalued overworked, paid a pittance to work all hours, stay in the garage, you'll get paid more, too many managers doing nothing and not enough patrols

Good for an easy work/life balance
Recovery Specialist (Former Employee) - Reading - 16 October 2022
Very relaxed environment as a recovery driver, however there can be an isolated feeling and there is no path for progression. For the responsibilities of a recovery driver the basic salary is too low (this is a whole for the industry) - if you are willing to work overtime for 60 hour weeks, it is mostly available. Any concerns which involved admin, HR, contacting management can be quite difficult. You either can't get through to anyone or won't action a request for a long period of time.
Pros
Relaxed, fun, work/life balance, 4 on/off shift pattern
Cons
Long days, no career progression, basic salary

Cons

Fast Paced
Assessor (Former Employee) - Yorkshire - 6 September 2022
Vehicle inspection sector is very Fast paced. Seems under appreciated and outdated compared to other sides of business in relation to wage, benefits and also lack of holiday pay.

Cons

Plenty of freedom to make your own decisions
Roadside Technician (Former Employee) - Bristol - 2 August 2022
No commute to work. Great meeting new people everyday. Great benefits, holiday etc. everything supplied to do the job. Plenty of back up and support. But workload gets overwhelming at times. Constant management and system/procedure changes. Constantly trying something they think is new but has been tried before. Opportunities to progress within the company are there but you are expected to give up your free time to get yourself noticed by upper management.
Pros
Everything supplied, very generous holiday
Cons
Shift work, very busy and can be stressful

Coworkers are very friendly and helpful
Customer Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) - Walsall - 21 June 2022
Generally a great place to work, especially if you just want to earn some money without any obligations or responsibilities, but not if you have any ambitions for progression. Very understaffed and I’ve not had much opportunity for training due to the understaffed situation. The benefits are excellent as well as the pay and the overtime incentives are crazy good. I would have liked to stay there and build a career but for lack of job security and progression.

Great place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 25 May 2022
I loved working here, really intense training and lots of support from team leaders. Lovely perks and free parking. I worked on a temporary contract over the Christmas period and it was good money as i think it was x3 pay on bank holidays.
Pros
Free hot drinks
Cons
Late hours

Jobs at RAC
Ok management is not good
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Bescot - 12 April 2022
Management need working on as they don’t really care about their staff. Work times are also hard and draining. Good pay and good benefits out of the company

Really tough job
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) - London - 25 November 2021
Was once a really good job those days are long gone Commission is poor you have to record everything and if you don’t your threatened with 30 days notice. You have to pay for your sites that’s about £1000 per month plus agencies fee of £100. There are better jobs out there now.
Pros
You can work your own hours
Cons
You’ll probably end up out of pocket

Manage your own expectations!!!
Report Developer & Administrator, (Former Employee) - Walsall - 8 May 2021
Company has a toxic culture where you are encouraged to report on those around you. Additionally once they find out you have useful and novel skills above your pay grade and outside your contract they want you to use them without a pay raise. What i recommend is that go into the company but manage your expectations.
Pros
Nice car park
Cons
Wont pay you for additional skills used

Productive and Pro-active Workplace
Resourcing Advisor (Current Employee) - Bescot - 24 February 2021
Always looking to promote new ideas and to listen to its people. Tough times at the minute and RAC has been great at making working from home work for people where possible.
Pros
Membership, flex benefits
Cons
Can't think of any at the minute

Productive workplace.
Customer service assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester - 20 February 2021
Every day at the RAC brings new challenges and a fun outlook as the day begins really helps. Some calls can be hard as customers can get understandably irritated when recoveries are taking a little longer than expected. But the training received is excellent and prepares you fully for these types of incidents. In all this is a very rewarding company to work for with great benefits to accompany it.
Pros
Great pay and relaxed work atmosphere.
Cons
Travel during Manchester United matches.

High call volumes, sales target pressure,
Renewals & Retention Agent (Former Employee) - Bristol - 9 December 2020
This job is not for everyone, if you want the opportunity to speak to lots of different people for long hours, resell a 'premium' brand to them and try and earn some commission then good luck to you. However the RAC might have changed a lot since I worked there. I found the goalposts were moved a lot when it came to paying my commission, and you need a lot of physical and mental stamina to do everything required of you.
Pros
Free fruit, canteen with nice food.
Cons
Random shift pattern with poor work/life balance, little on-site parking, poor motivation, 'Us Vs Them' culture across departments.

Racist environment
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Walsall - 5 September 2020
If you haven’t worked there for 10 years plus they don’t care about you also racist comments are acceptable as far as management and Hr are concerned. Plenty of evening shifts and hardly any holiday gets approved.
Pros
Lots of people can make some good friends once you filter through the racist ones decent pay
Cons
Racist people shift work fighting for holiday

Regrettable
Membership Advisor (Former Employee) - Bristol - 24 July 2020
It was the worse decision of my career to join the RAC. The role wasn't as advertised/interviewed and struggled with management/role expectations. Only certain management styles allowed and if you didn't fit then you are thought of very negatively.
There was no sense of support or training to develop and consistently doubting myself, so certainly not a good environment for your mental health.
There some really pleasant people working there and I wish anyone luck joining the company but i certainly wouldn't recommend it.
Pros
Salary
Cons
Management, long hours, no clear objectives, lack of development & support

Face-fits culture
Middle Manager (Current Employee) - Walsall, West Midlands - 10 June 2020
Advancement at RAC is only if your face fits, if you're pals with management. Your skills, contributions and abilities are not taken into account. Just looking across departments you can see areas of the business where incompetency is ignored and even promoted. Where it is discovered a new "unadvertised" role will suddenly be created and the problem shuffled away.
Unrealistic expectations about work/life balance are also a problem, with little support or recognition for out of hours work. It's a 24 hour business but it's clear they don't want to pay for it.
For some roles though the pay is above average, especially in call centre/customer service areas.
Pros
Friendly people, dynamic work environment, good rewards and benefits
Cons
Lack of progression, unrealistic expecations

Rac
Accident Advisor (Current Employee) - Stretford, Greater Manchester - 24 April 2020
A good company to work for, the pay increases after the 3 month probation period. The job is not hard at all, you get 2 weeks classroom based training and onsite training , its a fun environment

Good Corporate Company
Sales Manager (Current Employee) - Home Based National - 13 April 2020
Great brand and culture, better if you work within the core business though as that is the key focus.Good communication via company intranet. Good home/work life balance with home based sales roles. On-line training platform with lots of options for self development. Good company benefits.
Pros
Brand, Salary, Culture
Cons
Restructres occur often
