Manage your own expectations!!!

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Company has a toxic culture where you are encouraged to report on those around you. Additionally once they find out you have useful and novel skills above your pay grade and outside your contract they want you to use them without a pay raise. What i recommend is that go into the company but manage your expectations.

Pros

Nice car park

Cons

Wont pay you for additional skills used

Productive and Pro-active Workplace

Always looking to promote new ideas and to listen to its people.Tough times at the minute and RAC has been great at making working from home work for people where possible.

Pros

Membership, flex benefits

Cons

Can't think of any at the minute

Productive workplace.

Every day at the RAC brings new challenges and a fun outlook as the day begins really helps. Some calls can be hard as customers can get understandably irritated when recoveries are taking a little longer than expected. But the training received is excellent and prepares you fully for these types of incidents. In all this is a very rewarding company to work for with great benefits to accompany it.

Pros

Great pay and relaxed work atmosphere.

Cons

Travel during Manchester United matches.

High call volumes, sales target pressure,

This job is not for everyone, if you want the opportunity to speak to lots of different people for long hours, resell a 'premium' brand to them and try and earn some commission then good luck to you. However the RAC might have changed a lot since I worked there. I found the goalposts were moved a lot when it came to paying my commission, and you need a lot of physical and mental stamina to do everything required of you.

Pros

Free fruit, canteen with nice food.

Cons

Random shift pattern with poor work/life balance, little on-site parking, poor motivation, 'Us Vs Them' culture across departments.

Racist environment

If you haven’t worked there for 10 years plus they don’t care about you also racist comments are acceptable as far as management and Hr are concerned.Plenty of evening shifts and hardly any holiday gets approved.

Pros

Lots of people can make some good friends once you filter through the racist ones decent pay

Cons

Racist people shift work fighting for holiday

Regrettable

It was the worse decision of my career to join the RAC. The role wasn't as advertised/interviewed and struggled with management/role expectations. Only certain management styles allowed and if you didn't fit then you are thought of very negatively. There was no sense of support or training to develop and consistently doubting myself, so certainly not a good environment for your mental health. There some really pleasant people working there and I wish anyone luck joining the company but i certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Pros

Salary

Cons

Management, long hours, no clear objectives, lack of development & support

Face-fits culture

Advancement at RAC is only if your face fits, if you're pals with management. Your skills, contributions and abilities are not taken into account. Just looking across departments you can see areas of the business where incompetency is ignored and even promoted. Where it is discovered a new "unadvertised" role will suddenly be created and the problem shuffled away. Unrealistic expectations about work/life balance are also a problem, with little support or recognition for out of hours work. It's a 24 hour business but it's clear they don't want to pay for it. For some roles though the pay is above average, especially in call centre/customer service areas.

Pros

Friendly people, dynamic work environment, good rewards and benefits

Cons

Lack of progression, unrealistic expecations

Good Corporate Company

Pros

Brand, Salary, Culture

Cons

Restructres occur often

Every day is different

It is a Great feeling being able to help people in their time of need. But pressure applied by management to increase productivity can make the job less enjoyable.Especially when they boast of record profits. The hardest part of the job, is long unsociable hours, the weather can be good or bad. And the introduction of the Smart Motorways has made the job more dangerous. There is a lot of scope to earn very good money,if you are willing to do the hours. Holiday around school holidays can be difficult

Pros

All equipment provided. No travel to work.Easy overtime oportunities .Days off in the week

Cons

Micromanagement. Unsociable hours.Weekend working up to 31 weekends a year.

Like a cross between Game of Thrones and Colditz

Appalling training, reprimanded if you do something wrong. Terrible attitude from department managers, upper management are ONLY interested by money. You are micro managed to within an inch of you life, especially in my department. If you ask anything or query a process you are shot down in flames. Horrendous place to work

Pros

Good salary and unlimited overtime, hard to beat the wages in Manchester

Cons

Treating like scum and with disdain

Good work life balance

The problem with this job is you have to pay them to go to work! You pay the company £100 @ month to work there, you pay around £65 for every day you work a venue..you pay ypur own fuel and travel costs and so unless you sigh lots of customers up every week, you earn very little. The job is hard work as everyone you speak to already have some kind of cover. The Company itself is good and the managerz are good. But you have to jump through a lot of hoops to go to work and earn anything.

Avoid this company unless you want a nervous breakdown.

This is the most badly run company I have ever worked for. The senior management style is poor generally with most having no idea how to deal with actual people. Many senior managers were not trained in how to manage and as a result had an aggressive and hard angle on pretty much everything. I wanted to work for RAC as I thought they were a great brand, but I soon realised it is a very hollow brand. The patrols are amazing, but the back office is run badly. They have no strategy, it changes every day, as do their priorities. They do not appreciate their staff and there are virtually no benefits. Work is stressful, deadlines are absolutely ridiculous and you're only as good as your last mistake. All they are interested in is making money for their american owners and yet when profits are made the staff don't see any of it. Don't let them fool you with words, this is NOT a superbrand, it's a super mess.

Pros

Great team spirit with other colleagues (to get through the day)

Cons

Too many to mention

Zero stars if I could

joke of a company, basic recovery salary is 22.5k for 40hrs but you can make the money up if you want to work overtime, shifts are 12hours a day, if you want holidays you need to book one year in advance and there’s no guarantee of getting it there’s always adjustments being made you know a month or two later also any additional days you might want to book off for family time though out the year forget it unless you can personally ask a work colleague to do you a favour and Cover your shift the rac won’t let you take it off. the jobs that you do are given to you buy undereducated teenagers that have had absolutely no training and have no idea of the vehicles they are sending and wouldn’t know the difference between an Austin mini or a Range Rover. They also have no idea of the road, traffic or transport industry and therefore will send you a job without any calculation or thinking so you could be sent 60-80 miles or more to move someone 2miles and then once you’re done you get sent 60-80miles back to where you came from to pick up a job which has been in the system for over 24hrs which you could of done before having to do a 120mile round trip. and then if you decide to question it..!! Well you better call the management but they only look out for themselves and never answer the phone as they know what’s coming and simply don’t want to hear it, they know it’s a mess so for them it’s just keep their heads down and keep getting paid while everything goes to Down the pan so that’s that, if you have a problem then you’re on your own no wonder we’re on watchdog every year poor customers -

Pros

Long hours poor pay

Cons

Messed around, lied too and cheated
