World Food Programme & Renault Trucks

Since 2012 Renault Trucks has been sending employee volunteers on missions to Africa to share their skills by conducting trainings for the local World Food Programme employees. World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Trucks are key element to its logistics system, bringing food under extreme conditions as close as possible to people in emergency situations. The agency’s locally recruited staff sometimes lacks the necessary skills to ensure proper maintenance of vehicles which is essential to carry out its mission successfully. The expertise and commitment of Renault Trucks employees has already enabled WFP to improve their improve efficiency and gain autonomy. Since the beginning of the partnership, the agency reports a significant reduction in its maintenance costs and a decrease of turnover among its employees who benefited from the trainings. Renault Trucks is renewing its commitment to WFP for additional three-year partnership until 2020. One of the new additions to the partnership is the integration of a module dedicated to training heavy-duty vehicle drivers. Throughout the years, the training programme was enhanced to be well-suited to problems faced by WFP on the field. The new training programme will include 3 training levels: Mechanical training Fleet management training Driver training In addition to having a truck equipped as a mobile training unit based in the WFP logistic hub in East Africa, Renault Trucks will position a second truck in the West African one to facilitate the organization of the training sessions. Our partnership has grown to be stronger over the last six years and we are sure that during the next three years will continue to build on this and deliver even greater benefits.
