Good place
Software Engineer (Former Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 21 August 2023

The most useful review selected by IndeedGood place to work for early careers. Exposure to lots of technology and a lot of opportunities to learn. A very friendly atmosphere in and around the sites.

Laidback and friendly
Marketing Executive (Current Employee) - Charfield, Gloucestershire - 30 June 2023
Working at Renishaw is laidback with little pressure. Almost zero progression possible. Senior management generally don’t value staff or have any idea what they are doing. There is a large amount of deadwood with a lot of old boys hanging on. Strict on-site or “hybrid” policy but expect to be told which days you’re coming in (also office is in the middle of nowhere). Endless bureaucracy meaning projects get pushed out for months if not years. Otherwise, colleagues are incredibly friendly, helpful and nice to work with.

Clicky and toxic culture
Factory Worker (Former Employee) - Woodchester, Gloucestershire - 28 June 2023
I was there for 18 months and found it very clicky, it all depends if your face fits in or not. I found some of the managers rude and there is no support. I didn't like the toxic atmosphere and wouldn’t recommend working here to anybody. There is no flexibility at all
Pros
Restaurant and gym
Cons
Clicky culture

Shame…
Administrator (Former Employee) - Woodchester, Gloucestershire - 19 April 2023
I had high hopes at Renishaw but it woefully suffers from under investment in systems and infrastructure. The higher management are pretty clueless, complete lack of vision or emphasis on culture…they base success on the amount of people who leave. Bad whiff of bullying driven from the top…the have some hero products that hides commercial incompetence, they will pay you what they think they can get away with.

Good place to work but...
Design Engineer (Current Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 27 March 2023
I don't even know how to describe it. There are bad apples everywhere but while in other places , the new generation replaces them , here they get promoted.

Professional Working Environment
Mechanical Design Engineer (Former Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 24 November 2022
I worked for Renishaw for around 7 years and started as an apprentice with little industry experience and qualifications. I finished the company with a degree qualification and experience in many different aspects of the engineering world. Their commitment to staff development was fantastic. However, pay didn’t end up reflecting my skills. The company act professionally and employ great tech to allow staff to fulfil their roles to high standards.

Bullying Culture
CNC Setter/Operator (Former Employee) - Stonehouse, Gloucestershire - 23 November 2022
Horrendous place to work.Extremely poor management.Very bad atmosphere mainly due to the terrible shift pattern. You are treating and spoke to really badly. In 35 years in engineering definitely the worst place I have worked.I managed to put up with it for 18 months. Most people only last a few weeks.Seen 40+ people come and go during my time there.

Great workplace, colleagues and environment
Marketing (Current Employee) - Charfield, Gloucestershire - 11 November 2022
Great work place, lovely colleagues with a few bad eggs (like most places). Lots to do but also quite laid back at times. Nice work environment with lots of benefits like pensions, on site gyms, bike & EV schemes. Progression is slightly difficult as lots of long standing employees (10/15+ years) that won’t leave until they have to retire. A good place to learn and if you’re lucky a development opportunity may come up. I will also stress that as a company they go above and beyond to practice good mental health support, inclusivity and have invested a large amount into this.

Great company
Marketing (Current Employee) - New Mills - 23 August 2022
Great company to work for. Lots of opportunity, friendly colleagues and good offering such as restaurant and gym on site, good pension, bonus, cycle to work scheme etc. Quite slow paced due to the amount of people required for sign off but overall a pleasant place to work. Great attitude to hybrid working and lovely surroundings too.
Pros
Nice site, restaurant, gym, interesting work
Cons
Can be slow

Great work place
Marketing Assistant (Current Employee) - Charfield, Gloucestershire - 16 August 2022
Lovely teams, great culture and a fair pair even for those new to their careers. Work load is evenly spread but there is lots of room to take on more work if you prefer to. A company that appreciates its employees.
Pros
On site cafe, bonus, Christmas parcels

A good business gone bad
Senior Engineer (Current Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge - 6 August 2022
I've worked here for over 15 years. A number of senior people have retired over the past 5 years and their replacements don't seem to be able to do the job anything like as well. If you want to take a job at Renishaw, I advise you to make sure you get a good pay rise for joining and plan on staying only long enough that it won't look bad on your CV, because loyalty definitely ISN'T rewarded any more.

No security
Assembly Operator (Former Employee) - Woodchester, Gloucestershire - 13 July 2022
You can work as hard as you want, you’re just another batch of workers for them to toss out. Managment will promise permanent jobs for the people putting work in then throw them out.

Toxic culture, poor management, no respect for employees
Software Engineer (Current Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge - 25 June 2022
Presumably you are reading this with Renishaw as a prospective employer. If you are someone who want respect, your opinion being appreciated and a happy workplace, just move on by. What you will find is a toxic environment, incompetent, rude managers, a culture where image & deadlines are far more important than quality. You need only look at the staff turn-over figures and sadly the number of employee suicides to get an idea what kind of place this is.
Pros
not many
Cons

OK as factories go
Assembler (Former Employee) - Woodchester, Gloucestershire - 21 May 2022
The work in assembly is repetitive and at times mind numbingly boring. That said, if you show willing and your face fits, you get a chance to move around. The atmosphere is cliquey and progression within the company is slow and relies heavily on your ability to make friends in high places. Working as an assembler seems to get you treated as educationally sub normal regardless of your level of education or reasons for working there. My advice is never confide in anyone as the place is a vipers pit of gossips, which probably stems from not having anything else meaningful to think about there.
Pros
Free hot chocolate on tap
Cons
No opportunity for progression

Just a number
Machine setter (Former Employee) - Stonehouse - 13 August 2021
You are not made to feel special, you are just another number. The company once cared about employee health but now is a different story, i recommend steering clear.

Technical
Product Support Engineer (Former Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 23 November 2020
Had its ups and downs. Very technical and demanding. Benefits were OK and salary too. Purchasing for work was very difficult: Senior Managers would question every last purchase.

Graduate scheme
Graduate Scheme (Current Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 20 November 2020
I joined the graduate scheme in 2019. I have a lot of freedom to do what I like and not very much is expected. The company gave all graduates a blanket 5% pay rise this year which was great, especially as everyone else had a pay freeze. This shows graduates are really valued highly, even more than long serving employees which is how it should be because graduates are worth more. It wasn't even linked to performance or achieving and targets which is great, generally you can just do as much or as little as you want and nobody says anything. Not a good place to stay long term but it seems like a good place for graduates looking for an easy in.
Pros
Pay rise. Nice location. Low expectations.
Cons
Poor organisation. Old fashioned management. Low flexibility

Relaxed, inclusive and value innovation
Software Engineer (Former Employee) - Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire - 14 October 2020
By far the best role in my career. I would recommend this company to any good engineer within commuting distance. Training and education are well valued and funded, and the overall culture is relaxed and friendly.
