The best summer job

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Surly the best seasonal job in the uk. Great active job, especially if you love being down the beach and in the sea. Brilliant training from the rnli, very rewarding.

Fantastic Job

The job itself can't be beaten really. It's very exciting and you're always doing interesting things. Can be very intense one day and very relaxed the next. Sometimes higher ups in management can be difficult, and sometimes feel that we could be treated better, but given how good the job itself is you tend to ignore that.

Excellent job

Great job as a lifeguard but only seasonal. Enjoy being outside and working with some great people. Can be boring at times but also very exciting at other times. Very worthwhile job.

Pros

Working outside on the beach

Cons

Not valued by RNLI, Won't give a reference as apparently RNLI policy, Also did not help with any furlough during covid

Productive, Interesting and Fast Paced work place on busy days

The job is a diverse experience within days, switching pace sometimes in hours. The pay is fair and the work place can take interesting turns throughout the day.

Pros

Working on the beach in the sun, good pay

Cons

Travel between beaches, the level of fitness/skill

Ruined by Payroll

Staff morale in the place is so low because of the balloon-heads at payroll. They mess up everyone's wages, lie when I phone them and basically are laughing at everyone when we try to get our wages that we have worked hard for. Get rid of the imbeciles at payroll and we will all be so much happier to be there.

Pros

Some decent colleagues.

Cons

Payroll gets away with murder

Official response from RNLI

16 July 2020
Our payroll team, along with the rest of the organisation, has been facing a complex series of unprecedented challenges due to the impact of COVID19. Every effort has been made to pay our employees on time and correctly, however some errors have occurred.Paying employees correctly is incredibly important to the RNLI, as it is for our employees. The payroll department have been working hard to correct any errors made and have been communicating directly with those affected.Your frustration is understood, but please bear with us while this is rectified. If there is anything outstanding, please speak directly with the payroll department or your line manager.

Busy but enjoyable workplace

You could choose your shifts, however we had limited lifeguards so people were always having to cover. Pay is good for a teenager still in education. You learn responsibility, concentration, extremely valuable First Aid and life saving techniques.

Family Like Environment

Training is long, detailed and intense, but once completed it gives you the ability to practise and perform lifesaving techniques on a daily basis giving everybody a confidence in their ability. Due to the friendly environment that is established from day 1. The RNLI are always happy to help come together to solve issues by working together as one unit.

Fun work, dedicated to saving lives, lifelong experience.

I worked as a Beach Lifeguard. What better place to work? Ensuring public safety by being equipped with advanced first aid skills, prolific rescue skills, and a high standard of fitness. Very well organised company, good management. Always someone to talk to if needed and great support from co workers. The RNLI is like a family, everyone supports everyone. Hardest part of the job is rainy days, when no one comes to the beach. however these days are perfect for improving personal work skills and team cohesion. The most enjoyable part of the day is leaving the beach after clocking off on a scorching, busy day, safe in the knowledge that everything you did today saved lives. Another enjoyable part of the job is knowing that no single day is the same, anything can happen on any day!

Pros

Saving lives, outside job, high fitness standards, socials

Cons

Long days

Productive and Fun workplace

We would go set the flags out in a safe place for people to use the water and make sure that everyone was using it in a safe manor. I learned how to see where the safest place to put the area was as well as being able to spot people in difficulty before they actually get into difficulty. Everyone that i worked with was fun, friendly and still worked really hard to achieve the best standard of work. One of the hardest parts of the job was when you had to go and rescue a casualty in difficulty when the waves where big, as if you did anything wrong you yourself could become a second casualty. The most enjoyable part of the job was the good feeling you got when you rescued someone and saved their lives.

Pros

you choose your own lunch break

Cons

it can be boring when beach is empty
