Management is a joke, all love to talk behind eachothers back. Secrets everywhere and nobody is happy at work. Very unhappy place to progress in as it will just mentally drain you.Would not recommend.

I found the senior management at roadchef to be overbearing and rude . Constant nit picking at the staff and bad treatment of staff who work really hard. Staff turn over is high.
Pros
Great discounts.
Cons
Undervalued treated as disposable.

A typical week at work would consist of irregular shifts, unnecessary pressure, and begs and bribes for you to take on extra hours despite already being in overtime. The pay was never enough for the extra work and responsibilities that were put on you. Would not recommend.
Pros
pound lunches
Cons
irregular shifts, lack of appreciation, low pay

I enjoyed my time working for M56 Roadchef, i started off washing up and clearing tables and in a short time progressed to retail supervisor i was made to feel welcome and involved by Management and team member's i was praised and recognised for the work i did.Unfortunately i made a hard decision to leave due to a new job offer with more pay & more family/sociable working shifts/days. It is a busy service center so you are busy with customer's aswell as delivery, working stock, date coding promotions ect but the best thing is that all the staff within the centre will muck in and help one another, so you need to be energetic and a people person to work here, You never know, one day i may return to work there
Pros
Good discount on food, team work, free parking, respect
Cons
Travellers giving abuse, shoplifting and leaving a mess in the toilets/showers and eating areas

Area Manager cut wages bill so less staff for summer season. So in our unit we then had to do the work of 2 people.Long queues at busy times. Complaining customers added to the stress. Difficult to get time for a break. Site managers only interested in hanging onto their well paid jobs. There are plenty of nice decent people working there but so many leave as soon as they can find another job or simply walk out.The job itself I enjoyed but the workload meant I was always exhausted and stressed. A positive was the training I was given as it helped me get my new job.
Pros
Training
Cons
Workload unreasonable.

I enjoyed my time working there but in need of change, and to learn a new set of skills. It is the perfect working environment for a person wanting to progress in the company that has just come out of college
Pros
Meals for a pound
Cons
Long hours

Too many people with relatives & friends working together. I was given a supervisor role without knowledge of the unit and IT systems, left to work it out myself. Shortstaffed always. Managers show little or no interest in anything
Pros
Meals on duty
Cons
Too many to list, stay away!

It can be as stressful as fun, no two days are equal. A place in the middle of nowhere, full of life, many stores, from WHsmiths to Boots, to McDonald's. Hospitality and Retail working together with one goal, to serve and make your travel easier and enjoyable.
Pros
Bus to commute
Cons
expensive bus ticket

If your face fits then you’re good, if not then you’re shifts are horrible. Management have favourites and little clicks. Pay was never correct. Very spiteful place to work. Management only progress because they are very friendly with senior members. Go to HR with a problem and management will be on your case about it until you drop it. Horrible place to work.
Pros
Good hours.
Cons
Management. Pay.

roadchef is what you make it. It is fast paced and good fun, the people are fun and the majority of customers are lovely. It can be difficult at times eg no air con working in heat wave, but the bosses do what they can.

A challenging culture. Driven by the bottom line only with no consideration on the wider, long term impact or vision for sales growth. Some great people within the business that maintain its performance

Roadchef is a very bad company, unfair dismissal due to me having erosive Gastritis, had a new store team leader start and a week later I was dissmissed. In the end of job process I had started my shift, 2 hours later get sacked then wasn’t allowed to finish the rest of my shift. I had to pay £5 everyday to get to work also, ridiculous

My store was constantly understaffed, meaning you do the work of 3 people and you don’t get paid any extra. Some managers were decent and good with people and others were just rude, lazy micro managers. The good staff and relaxed work culture made up for shortfalls in staffing, pay and poor management. Appreciation for hard work or going the extra mile is not really recognised or awarded. Many times the store was close to closing or calling in off duty managers because the staff levels were so poor, this really stresses you out when u have no help. The blue recycling bins were actually emptied into the compactor with general rubbish so the store I worked at was dumping lots of plastic into landfill. The store would go through like 30 milk bottles a day plus much more plastic, and this was going straight into general waste so don’t be fooled by bins offering recycling.
