Lost their way
Pharmacist (Former Employee) - West Yorkshire - 20 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe organisation seemed to have lost their way. It used to be customer care driven but before I left it was more “customers will have to get used to..” mentality. Staffing cuts and more pressure but then, that’s all community pharmacies!

Insights into Rowlands Pharmacy
Areas for improvement
- Sense of belonging
- General feeling of work happiness
- Fair pay for job
Salary is better than most
Pharmacist (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 18 September 2023
Rowlands it was dependent on area managers which varied alot pay rises can be good if you fight hard for it. There were no bonuses at the time overall staffing is bad like any community pharmacy. What I didn't like was how your future is determined by dispensers where you worked the area manager team tend to listen to them despite you being genuine.

Very stressful, minimum wage
Dispensing Assistant (Current Employee) - Swindon, Wiltshire - 16 September 2023
Genuinely loved the job at first, but when sickness plays a big part in becoming behind it turned into a super stressful environment I couldn't deal with anymore. No help from HR, when we did have help it was short hours because other places were prioritised over the branch I worked in, even though we were further behind. Pretty much minimum wage, pay doesn't make the stress viable.

Busy all day which makes the day go quick, I had lots of on line training all though I had no training or very little to complete my working day at my best Manager very nice and supportive all though I feel there was more than 1 manager I am a team player and would support any of my colleagues this was something others struggle with. Miserable culture
Pharmacist (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 3 August 2023
Dispensers decide your fate if they don't like you, even if it involves telling lies to upper management. Miserable staff and miserable customers, old fashioned ways of working

Jobs at Rowlands Pharmacy
Low pay and undervalued
Pharmacy Assistant (Former Employee) - West Yorkshire - 25 July 2023
For the responsibility you are Given the pay does not reflect this. Staff not being replaced and more pressure put on staff. The staff morale is low . A typical day is very busy with deadlines, the customers dont want to wait long, but most are very friendly

Minimum wage minimum staff
Pharmacy Dispenser (Former Employee) - Scotland - 31 May 2023
Even if you’re lucky enough to work with decent colleagues, the minimum wage, minimal training and the high amount of stress makes this a pretty miserable company to work for. Don’t expect any support from anyone at head office. Continuous abuse from entitled and rude customers/patients is also hard to manage when you barely have time to do the basic tasks that keep the place running. It’s not unusual to feel horrid after a long days work, especially when you’re made to feel so responsible for every task you can’t get finished - we’re talking not being able to supply life saving medication and the weight that holds, whether it’s because you’re too busy getting screamed at by patients or having to carry incompetent colleagues who get away with being useless or having supply issues that can’t be resolved for weeks, sometimes months. You may get some enjoyment from pharmacy life if you genuinely enjoy interacting with people and are not affected by difficult situations.
Pros
work colleagues
Cons
No support, minimum wage, abusive patients, lack of training, stress

Poor management from regional to store level
Pharmacist (Former Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 31 May 2023
If anyone is thinking strongly about working for Rowlands Pharmacy then I would first recommend they work a few shifts or locum at the branch first before they take on employment. At least then you'll get to know the staff you're working with, how supportive the manager is, and if there are any discrepancies or complaints that management need to deal with beforehand. Just be sure you don't get lumbered with any serious matters to resolve because you won't get any support from management, and they'll throw you under a bus just to protect themselves. My time with Rowlands only lasted three weeks, during this time I was also put on a performance improvement plan, for amongst other things, not getting to work early enough. I would have gladly done this if expectations were clearly laid out, but I didn't undergo any induction process, or health and safety briefing during my short time in employment with Rowlands.
Pros
pharmacy closes for lunch, and closed at the weekend.
Cons
Poor management at store and regional level, expectations not clearly set out

Understaffed and overworked
Dispenser (Former Employee) - Wrexham, Wrexham - 25 May 2023
A very busy stressful environment.Have worked with lovely branch colleagues. Staffing levels cut to the bone and upper management continue to add to an already unrealistic workload. Online training good but expect to complete in your own time as there is not enough time in your workday to work through it. Poor pay for the responsibilities and stress of the role.

Ok at first then awful
Pharmacy Dispenser (Former Employee) - Salisbury, Wiltshire - 24 May 2023
I enjoyed the work and learning new skills in the dispensing of medicine etc. But the manageress was difficult to get along with she had no patience and understanding and made everyone miserable. She has no people skills and is rude to colleagues and customers. Many people have left the branch but she is still there. It seems Rowlands aren't bothered about whistleblowing and complaints.

Soul destroying
Pharmacy Dispenser (Current Employee) - North Wales - 9 May 2023
Such a stressful role, minimum training, unsupportive management, toxic culture. I wouldn’t recommend anyone works for Rowlands Pharmacy. You could work as hard as possible and there would never be a thankyou.
