Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust Employee Review

Draining , stressful & overall challenging

Overall RCHT is an extremely stressful and draining place to work with little to no help and support from line managers & on shift nurses. Along side caring for multiple patients at a time you have to deal with other members of staff making your 12 hour shift day much harder but being cold , disrespectful and extremely hurtful. However the bond you grow with the patients you care for if absolutely magical and the hourly pay is very good but absolutely not worth destroying your mental & physical health over.

Diverse and rewarding environment and work place

Assist patients of the hospital (usually Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro) with personal and medical needs, assist nurses, doctors, specialists and other hospital staff on the ward towards accomplishing a shift, ensuring stocks are available, assisting with meal times, cleaning duties, writting incident reports and narratives relating patients behaviour when required, etc.

Fab colleagues and passionate team wanting to make a difference

I’ve worked for the trust for 3 years, my day-to-day involves a lot of fire fighting and things are difficult since covid with lots of backlogs and pressure so it can be quite stressful but my team are amazing and very supportive, I also believe management are passionate about getting things better for all patients in Cornwall. They are trying their best in extremely difficult circumstances. The culture within my team is great, really encouraging and supportive. I feel valued and my contributions are encouraged. Although that’s not the case across the trust unfortunately some teams are struggling with this. The hardest part of my job is relying on other people to get back to me and to want to change things for improvement. Unfortunately because the pressure is on their isn’t necessarily the time to focus on improvements.Overall I really like working here, the majority of people work hard to make a difference and that’s where I get job satisfaction from.

Pros

Good opportunities for development and career growth and passionate team of people

Cons

Very pressured environment that can be draining

Great place to work with amazing, kind colleagues, however times are changing and wages and work life balance are being left behind. Very interesting and varied job that keeps you learning and in your toes.

Pros

Career. Always learning. You make a difference.

Cons

Long hours and nights. Poor wages.
