They will perform a basic DBS check. When you apply for a job you will have to tick nearly a dozen boxes allowing Royal Mail to apply for and open your DBS check. They have a clear list of acceptable/unacceptable criminal charges on the job application.

I’d just been released the week before my interview after serving 6 years for armed robberyI don't know if they did a DBS check, but they definitely didn't check any of my work or personal references.
Well I work for royal mail only a cleaner but had to have lots of checks applied in October started in April
