Not a job for life
Post Person (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 22 January 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedUsed to be a great job , not anymore pushed to the very limit every day. Management don't treat the staff very well and the company as currently going downhill.

Insights into Royal Mail
Areas for improvement
- Ability to learn new things
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
Not as easy at it seems
Good job, generally a good place to work although people looking at it from the outside in would think it is just a stroll in the street, need to use your own initiative to solve problems day to day. Good job once you learn every route

Used to be good
Postman (Current Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 26 October 2022
Job used to be great now it all about making share holders rich this mean managers targets for bonus is higher has resulted in a toxic work place with many people starting before there time unpaid and not taking breaks to save the hassle of arguments but this cause major issues for collages who do take break and don't start early as the get compared. Workloads are unachievable but does have good perks like pay ,holidays, pension

Stress to clear office. Senior management pressure
Postman (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 18 October 2022
Started off OK, but promises of career progression never kept. Senior management pressing for cleared offices, despite there clearly being not enough staff to carry out the required tasks

Management make you feel small
Job was great pre-Covid, not so much now. Typical day is longer now because the company loses postmen and don't recruit more to fill the positions - in turn giving you more work for the same pay. If you're off ill (even with a doctor's line) the management will phone you almost every day in an attempt to bully/guilt trip you back to work. Management also don't listen to you and are completely clueless. It's no wonder why we strike.
Pros
Being out and away from office, some good colleagues
Cons
Managers, some bad colleagues

Postal Worker (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 7 September 2022
Good job good hours it’s very fast paced need to be organised to get the job done on time, winter time can be a challenge as it’s so busy and cold and wet outside.

Do not work at this company!!!
Postperson (Current Employee) - Glasgow - 27 July 2022
I've worked at the Royal Mail for a few years now within a very small (if not the smallest) office in the North of Glasgow area. The management are arrogant, selfish and inexperienced and have no duty of care towards their staff. They have no managerial skills whatsoever because they've been handed their jobs on a plate and haven't had to apply/interview for them. Their superiority complex is unbelieavable and they have a "do as I say, not as I do" attitude. More houses are being built everywhere and we're still expected to deliver mail and parcels within the same timescale as before. This causes unneccessary stress on staff due to the unbearable workload however managers do not listen and do not recruit new staff to help with the ongoing pressures. The Royal Mail are also not an equal opportunities employer, despite what they say. If a member of staff in a higher position retires then their job is given to the next longest serving member of staff - rather than advertising the job and everyone having a fair chance of applying for it. Due to this, there are many members of staff who are undeserving of their promotion and hard workers who deserve to be promoted are not given the chance. I would avoid working here at all costs as you're treated appallingly and there are no opportunities for promotion.

Poor place of work
Postal Worker (Current Employee) - Glasgow - 17 July 2022
Royal Mail is an in-between job, unless you are into politics. Managers expect you to have no life and no finishing time if it is busy. There is no room to climb the ladder if you are looking to process your career. Royal Mail need to update their way of working. No clocking in/out system, if worked over time and not paid for it there is nothing you can do about it. Only good thing is the people you work with, and you are on your own most of the day once you leave the office

Great fun place to work
Worker (Current Employee) - Glasgow - 9 May 2022
Amazing place to work with great pay! I worked for minimum age at the beginning but once your 12 weeks are done your pay goes up to £12.50 an hour and then continues to go up every 20 weeks!

Great place to work and get to know customers on your round building up good relationships, downside is only 1 sat off every 6 weeks as you work on a rotational day off

Enjoyed working here
Royal Mail Sorter (Former Employee) - Glasgow RMC - 22 March 2022
Was only I as a Christmas Temp sorting mail and parcels. Atmosphere was good and managers were supportive. Very busy however shifts went in quickly. I would recommend working here. There is a temp staff intake every year for the seasonal period.

Mail Sorter (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 13 March 2022
Told they didn’t need me after travelling all the way to their warehouse. Awful management , awful experience and such a waste of time. Was given the job but turned up and they said I’m not on the list.

Fast-paced work environment, really enjoyable
Mail Sorter (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 7 January 2022
I thoroughly enjoyed working as a casual mail sorter for royal mail and would definitely do it again. A fast-paced and busy work environment but also laid back and fun. I enjoyed every single shift I had, it was overall a fantastic experience.
Pros
Keeps you fit and busy, really friendly people and workplace, managers were really friendly and always happy to answer questions, hours go by fast as you are always busy
Cons
Bad communication from other employees and managers at times, you have to pick things up as you go, Couldn't stay on for longer unless you go onto a zero hours contract with no guaranteed shifts

Used to be good job.
If you have good manager can be enjoyable job. But unfortunately most are bullies and liars and will make your life miserable. You have set finish time, but they will make it impossible to finish at this time and will cheat you on overtime at every opportunity.
Pros
Exercise, plenty fresh air.
Cons
No set days off, zero family friendliness, little choice in holidays, bullying and lying from management the norm, zero job advancement prospects.

Fast paced Stressful Only care about tracked and parcels
Post Person (Current Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 1 January 2022
Management non existent. Thrown in from day one. You learn everything yourself on the job. Some colleagues friendly some will just ignore you. Unfair seniority practices still exist
