Favouritism, bullying managers and lack of support for staff with mental health issues
Revenue Protection officer (Former Employee) - Manchester - 23 July 2022
If you want fairness in a workplace then look elsewhere, this company breeds bad/bullying management and favouritism is rife and there's very little support/understanding for staff suffering mental health issues.

Good place to work
Postman (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 18 June 2022
The job itself is great if you like being outdoors and walking. Always plenty of overtime if you need it. Unfortunately we are in dispute with management at the moment and the proposed changes if implemented are not appealing so might be worth waiting a while before applying

Fair Job
Temporary Christmas Worker (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 30 April 2022
Good paid as a Christmas Casual, but sometimes they changed your working days at the very last second. Every Christmas Casual got the jobs are different and it just depends how the manager like you or not. Some are easy and some are not.

Productive on a daily basis, but overall no contact or continuity between different management levels, and general communication is poor.
Industrial Cleaner (Former Employee) - Manchester - 25 April 2022
Communication between all levels of management was poor, which resulted in poor working relationships and task confusion and failure. General on-site atmosphere was devisive and unwelcoming, outdated attitudes were not often challenged. Initiatives to improve working relationships were quite often ignored or not encouraged in a positive manner.
Pros
Subsidized meals Uniform provided Sub management manager
Cons
Long hours Poor union representation Lazy senior management

Unmanageable staff
Part-Time Operations Manager (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 9 April 2022
Very difficult managing uninterested and unmotivated staff. Because of unionisation staff come and go as they please and some do as little as possible.

If your face fits in
Mail and Parcel Sorter (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 9 March 2022
It all depends if your face fits in. Management have a habit on picking on the people who work hard. Other people who can't be bothered to do the work stand around talking or on the phone they get away it and the management don't say anything to them. When management gets it in the neck from the big boss they take it out on the workers.

Rewarding but increasingly more demanding
Postman (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 3 March 2022
Having been at Royal mail for a few years now it has been a fulfilling job. However with the shift in dynamic of post and parcels. The company feels a little left behind and is struggling to catch up.
Pros
Early finishes
Cons
Weather!

Ok
Christmas Temp (Former Employee) - Manchester - 28 February 2022
Fairly relaxed atmosphere. Managers and permanent staff were friendly and approachable. The xmas temp role is only about four weeks though which was not made clear initially. It was stated that temp roles were 12 weeks. The work is not complicated , just sorting parcels and letters. You are on your feet for 11 hours , sometimes a lot of walking involved pushing yorks around the building. So can be quite physically demanding.

Jobs at Royal Mail
in ManchesterNo one has a clue
Postal Worker (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 8 February 2022
Everyone has this vision of coming in to this job as just being on one round constantly, picking up a bag of mail and just carrying on with your day. But, can't be further from the truth. Gotten gradually worse, especially since the pandemic. If you've been there awhile, management will treat you well, if not good luck. Constantly being flip flopped between one walk to the next, your days off are whatever management see fit (good luck getting a Saturday off). You constantly feel exhausted to do anything after work. If the pay wasn't decent and not working Sundays, I'd of been long gone. And even that is slowly being stripped away.
Pros
Exercise Outdoors Pay is above NMW
Cons
Indoor Management Lack of balance

Stressful bullying management
Post Person (Current Employee) - Manchester - 26 January 2022
The job itself was enjoyable. Until RM started messing about with it and making changes. The management culture is just to bully people into doing what they want. This is throughout the management structure

It's not what it looks like
Post Person (Current Employee) - Manchester - 14 October 2021
You have to be physically fit and strong. You can't have a social life. You must be able bto multitask. Lots of common sense. Have the determination to complete the job. Handle pressure of the overwhelming task put in front of you. Be able to hold in your bowls and bladder for hours at a time. Be able to get freezing cold and find the strength to carry on. Not let soaking wet through bother you. Be able to keep focused on the job and to remember all the safe systems for your job. Not to argue with your boss even though they make the wrong decisions.
Pros
Weekly wage. Overtime all the time.
Cons
Meal breaks are difficult to fit in with the over whelming work load
