Run by morons

Being out on delivery is the best part of the job. There's a bullying culture at Royal Mail where everyone is treated like a number that's there to help with the managers bonuses. Hardest part of the job is dealing with insecure two faced managers who don't care about customers or staff just meeting unrealistic targets and disregarding the mental health of hard working postys. All the staff are good people who care about their customers and their job. Office could quite easily run without management.

Pros

Working outside

Cons

Management

Pros

Your own lunch eat as you go

Good job but stressful

Great job once out of the office but unrealistic workload makes the impossible some days. You are asked to do you best by managers who now what they are asking you to do is not achievable.

Toxic

Unfortunately going down hill fast Such a shame used to be a good company to work for. Understaffed and impossible workloads. Along with poor senior management who haven't a clue about the best working practices for the job. A lot of staff off sick due to stress and depression

Got worse longer I was there!

No compassion or care from management. After 7 years I didn't have anything said to me as soon as I put in my notice! Pay was okay but the new contracts arent worth signing!

Has become an awful job

Have worked at RM for years. It has become awful, it’s soul destroying now & you are permanently shattered walking the equivalent of 2.5 marathons a week (and they want to increase that)! RM are desperate to get rid of existing staff and are making life intolerable for everyone to achieve that aim. Management at all levels are poor and the culture from shop floor managers all the way to the top is one of lying because they are scared of the person above them. This used to be the best job in the world but now is truly horrible. RM is a toxic environment and not one I’d recommend to anyone……. hard to admit all this but it’s mentally and physically destroying. So many good people leaving the business….its sad!!

Pros

None

Cons

Utterly demoralising and exhausting

Its alright

its an easy job , do your sorting in the morning , bundle the letters in the right order , load the van and off you go. the issue is no communication between managers , its like everyone has their own rules and make them up as they go along . money is good tho and plenty of overtime . job gets quite savage on your knees and feet after some time .

Enjoyed the work. Management is atrocious

The work is good especially for your health. Walking 8 + miles a day. Management are not great. Pay is pretty good compared to other courier companies

A company going downhill fast

Colleagues were a great bunch of people but the management style consists of bullying and harassing. Used to be a great job but that’s gone, became an awful place to work. A job made a lot more stressful than it should be due to executive decisions and poor management.

Was great place

Was such a great place to place but due to higher management the boss has changed beyond what it was. Too many chiefs not enough staff or hours in the day to do the job anymore

Unachievable workloads and utterly depressing!

I worked at Royal Mail for 8 years. Throughout my time there I experienced extreme pressure/bordering on bullying from management to complete unachievable workloads. In my final year with the company, I regularly felt depressed because my work load had increased that much I could not complete it within my part time hours. I felt like I was failing daily.Part time staff regularly miss important briefings. Any overtime worked needs to be closely monitored because it doesn't always make it onto the pay slip.I enjoyed the exercise aspect of the job but unfortunately the bullying culture ruined my time with the company.I strongly advise seeking employment elsewhere.

Pros

Exercise

Cons

Unachievable workloads

Great work, managers not so great...

Enjoyed working with Royal Mail. The office is the worst part of the job. Once you're out of the office... it is fantastic. Don't let the office get you down. That said... all the stupid "door to doors" (junk mail) bundles are quite irritating too. But overall a great job and you do it for the customers. Managers tend to be bullies.

Awful management

Disrespectful management, the job itself is great, keeps you fit, you are out in your own, job and knock. But management are arrogant (not all I may add)

Of mail and parcels...

Bad job

Do not work here it is honestly such a hostile environment in how upper management push lower management into unattainable targets while they simultaneously try and get rid of 6 days a weeks post service while making you do 6 days work in 5

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Bad holiday and working conditions generally

Fast paced and enjoyable

Fast paced but enjoyable at the same time , meeting the customers and building a relationship with them is a nice part of the job. Getting paid to keep fit also.
