Great pay and conditions
Postal Sorter (Former Employee) - Team Valley - 5 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedReally good pay and conditions but physically quite demanding. Things changing so, under realignment, losing some of the excellent perks we used to have.

Good temp job
Parcel Sorter (Former Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 29 November 2023
Only worked during the Christmas period but I enjoyed it! Staff are friendly, the work wasn't too difficult and we had good break times. Would do it again

Jobs at Royal Mail
Sorter positionsOutdated and dysfunctional
Postal Sorter (Former Employee) - Carlisle - 22 November 2023
Repetitive, day in day out actions on monotonous shifts. I learned virtually nothing apart from the way power ocifies and becomes stale. 3/4 managers were reasonable, kind and approachable however it only requires one toxic manager to make a workplace miserable. Royal Mail had one of these. Blatant biases and preferences were shown toward older members of staff whose entitlement was something to behold. A young member of staff can be expected to moved around different busy stations several times more often than established members of staff who perceive themselves as exempt. The most difficult part of the job was having the patience and composure to deal with the unfair and often unkind treatment at the hands of one particular manager, who’s shameless, soulless charming of higher ups has lead to her continued tyranny. Wouldn’t recommend if you want a pleasant fair workplace
Pros
Free stamps once a year
Cons
Monotonous, boring, toxic management, repetitive, no career progression

Post Sorter (Current Employee) - Greenford, Greater London - 12 November 2023
Pretty good money and paid breaks. Pretty good sick pay. You may find some roles very monotonous and i saw multiple people quitting within 2 weeks when i joined so it perhaps takes a certain mentality (or is it 'no other choice' type desperation?) to tolerate mail sorting. I work in a building with hundreds of employees and some managers and staff behaviour may irritate you if you allow it but maybe most people have been ok to work with. In conclusion...if you have the right mindset then for an 'unskilled' (no qualifications needed) manual labour job its perhaps one of the better ones...at least in terms of wages.

Fast paced, if you don't like hard work for decent pay don't apply.
Parcel Sorter (Current Employee) - Chester - 22 October 2023
I love working at a mail centre as agency staff for Royal Mail. If you are prepared to work hard and try and learn everything people will want you in to work. It is monotonous and when it's busy it is very hard work, but I love being on the go. Friendly workmates and managers are fine I find.

Productive and demanding
Sorter/Loader (Current Employee) - Atherstone, Warwickshire - 3 October 2023
There are high volume of items that need to be sorted within specific time frames. Workers may need to lift, carry, and transport heavy objects repeatedly throughout their shifts. This can include lifting boxes, crates, or packages, and moving them to designated locations or sorting areas. the fast-paced nature often means that workers must remain alert and focused to meet productivity targets and maintain accuracy.

Repetitive
Parcel Sorter (Former Employee) - Atherstone, Warwickshire - 17 June 2023
It's a very monotonous easy job but the shift managers don't allow you to talk with the people you work alongside which is frankly ridiculous as it takes no brain power whatsoever to do this job.

okay work, decent salary
Sorter (Current Employee) - Wolverhampton, West Midlands - 16 June 2023

Not enough job
Sorter (Current Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 30 May 2023
They cannot provide enough shift to staff but non stop to recruit from outside. Even they give you a shift but they will cancel it before you back to work.

Good pay, not such a good atmosphere anymore!
Postal Sorter (Current Employee) - Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire - 3 May 2023
I have worked for Royal Mail for 22 years, most of which have been very happy, but it is now time to move on. The company has become almost totally profit focused, I feel the needs of workers are not so important anymore, and many things are changing at a rapid rate, and not all for the good. Morale is at an all-time low. I am an indoor sorter, and the work can be boring with, and sometimes there is far too much work for way too few workers, it can be badly organised and not very well managed. But for what the job entails the pay is pretty decent! However I have decided to move on to a job where I will feel more appreciated, be treated as an individual and hopefully gain a sense of achievement. Good luck to all the staff remaining at Royal Mail, with all the recent changes and disruption within the company I think you're going to need it!!

Overworked, under paid and treated like robots for targets.
Parcel Sorter (Former Employee) - Leeds - 20 April 2023
Wouldn't work with this company ever again, treated like robots to hit targets but customers parcels and letters are just sat for maybe 6 hours until they are moved,( some are next day delivery and special delivery for 1pm the next day . Management don't care about workers just their bonuses. Avoid at all costs !!!
Pros
Nice colleagues
Cons
Overworked, underpaid, Mug !!!!!!
